The LINES Winter Racing is a Wrap

Vali Höll and Fabio Wibmer are the winners of the Austrian Winter downhill series.

Four races, more than 80 participants, worthy winners and more drifts than one can count. Last weekend the final event of the first "LINES schneefräsn" took place and even the organizers of the series were surprised by its success. Looking at the pack at the first race, the field was nothing short of a national downhill championship. World cup riders Markus Pekoll, Manuel Gruber, Boris Tetzlaff and Andreas Kolb all turned up to end Fabio Wibmer's dominance on Snow. Although just scoring second in his home region, trial ace Fabio managed to take home the overall with Markus Pekoll second and Gabriel Wibmer, the 13-year-old cousin of Fabio, in third.


Fast ladies
The most successful participant was Vali Höll. The 14-year-old YT Industries rider was on top at three events. The remaining event went to Austrian downhill champion Elke Rabeder, who ranked second in the overall, in front of Anna Fischbach.


Snow: from "cement-like" to "supersoft"
Snow is not always snow. That's an experience all the riders made. In Lienz, organizers pumped 80 cubic meters of water into the track, which made for a perfect world cup skiing slope. On the other hand, riders were drifting all over the place in deep slush in Leogang and on the Semmering. How is that for some variety?


2017 again!
All smiles after the very first season of the winter downhill cup. Even during the series new event organizers wanted to hop on bord and pitched their venues. What's certain for 2017: "LINES schneefräsn" will be back, possibly with an even bigger calendar.
