one day, karma will smack him when he crashes and someone celebrates on hi
  • 74 3
Yeah I thought that was in very bad taste.
  • 28 2
Well said man????. One day karma gets him.
  • 19 2
Well said man. One day karma gets him

I agree, worst case of bad sportsmanship I've seen at an event like this.
  • 34 1
i wonder if they have a monitor and can watch others racing ? if he was just told he fell ( could be something minor and race is over ) i'd say he's celebrating winning, not the other guy falling - but if he has a monitor and could see the other guy hitting the ground the way we all did, i'd say it's a pretty bad mannered celebration - very rude of him
  • 29 0
@Luis-Sc: I guess they had a monitor, because Joahnnes Fischbach (3rd) (good friend of Slavik) didn't celebrate at all. Maybe he was waiting for some information about Slavik's condition.
  • 41 1
Bread and Circuses and RedBull...not even showing if Slavik is ok or not... all about the "Show". Damn.
  • 25 3
@Luis-Sc: I think the word is class, as in "serious lack of f*cking class".
  • 44 5
Yeah, f*ck that guy (Pedro Ferreira) @ 1:12:25
  • 24 5
I'm pretty sure there were telebims for the crowd so the racers could also see what's going on.

And the guy... he just won a huge event before his homecrowd, I'm sure he had this one over his mind since the day he started competing. Local media are already praising him. The crowds got crazy, his friends screaming with joy. Sure, this doesn't make any less of him behaving like a dick - but who wouldn't be taken over by emotions with all this in mind? Guess he'll feel the moral hangover as soon as he gets sober... but for now I can understand him being out of his head.
  • 15 2
@brooce: regardless of those circumstances I can hardly even get through watching him celebrate. Reasons or excuses ,whatever.. either way optics are terrible and one of the worst cases of unsportsmanlike conduct ive seen in bike riding
  • 11 6
He looks like a douche bag, so I'll just a book by its cover just this one time

C'mon... He knows the champion and the only one who can grab the title was down... BUT Ferreira doesn't know the circumstances or the real Slavik state... After some minutes everyone knows Slavik went to the hoospital and the faces changes from happiness to sadness.

Looks like professional Mtn biking just found the new 'CHICO MALO' to focus its ill on. personaility dysfunction in "Schadenfreude" ....
  • 26 11
yes, was a mistake of pedro, but he's a human like all us. in his instagram (ferreira001) he talks about this moment, he was so euforic for take the win and he apolgize for the reaction because he don't think that the crash was so hard
  • 11 7
@mtriquelme: @efecto0: This. Some understanding would help guys... no witch hunts please, oh wait this is PB lol. Props to Pedro for clarifying and apologizing.
  • 12 1
@mtbikeaddict: You could see it was a nasty crash immediately. No tact was to be had by Pedro.
  • 12 2
@Unrealityshow: Totally agree. The feed switched from Slavik obviously crashing badly to Pedro literally leaping for joy and it was not a good look.
  • 19 3
I'm just here to jump on the hate wagon.
  • 18 3
@mtriquelme: sorry but its fkin annoying that people think apologizing does indemnify such catastrophal behavior. He is a grown up guy and should be aware of his conduct at all time. You could see that slavik was not moving. He did not care about it. At all world cup races the guys wait till they see their opponents are back up and allright, than it's their right to party, not before.
  • 5 2
@kingpine: Yeah, that was a pretty bad juxtaposition. And @Chridel, I'm not saying apologizing indemnifies it, but at least it's something. Painful to watch? Yes. Bad all around? Yes. Could've been better? Yes. Understandable? Also, to at least some degree, yes. Just saying don't be so quick to jump on the quick to judge holier than thou he's absolutely inexcusable etc hate bandwagon... Some pretty nasty things have been said. This whole thing is very unfortunate.
  • 7 4
@Fenrisvarg: I agree with you and it’s probably this guys 1st major win ! He couldn’t help himself , but the pinkbike judges have condemned him for eternity
  • 2 4
All 6 above this comment are correct. Let's not let disapproval morph inexorably into hate. But it was dumb, not to mention all his people displaying the same lack of empathy, including men old enough to be these guys' dads. Winning is everything I guess...
  • 5 3
If anyone’s out of order it’s the mc’s with the mics at the hot seat doing there job and jeering up everyone ! Not the unfortunate guy who won his 1st major televised (around the world) race ! Think most would do the same .
  • 10 0
If we can just prevent Pedro Ferreira, Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford, getting unexplainable hate mail out of the blue, that would be good.
  • 5 0
@BenPea: too late , he’s been hung drown and quartered already Rolleyes
  • 1 0
 agreed..
  • 6 2
I told my wife "maybe he hates foreigners and was like "Screw you! Locals only baby!" Big Grin ..kidding
But yeah, it was bad taste at the moment. It's not like he's been in that position before to have empathy and humility...and party!
But he explained himself, which is probably more than most of us would do, so let's move on and hug it out.

I think what we all learned is that despite all of the insanely gorgeous women we all know from past photo layouts lined the course top to bottom, the modern poo poo-ing fest of "objectification" of women will completely sanitize what used to be the most stunning photo journals from this race.

@Boardlife69: Man you're nuts, I love it. Come to Tahoe so I can buy you a beer and we can ride Northstar this summer.
  • 4 0
in my 9 years of watching the uci dh, never did I saw a rider as insensitive as this guy.
  • 4 0
@Chridel: no, apologies not indemnify the situation, but is a good gesture of any person that recognize his mistake. look the instagram of pedro and tomas, i only see good wishes and partnership in this two guys
  • 5 2
@mtriquelme: On one side you have this guy making a mistake in the heat of the moment after winning a race, his heart beating really fast. Then realizes what he has done and apologizes. That is to his credit.

On the other side there is a horde of angry commenters, sitting comfortably at their computers, pulse is normal. All of a sudden they start insulting him wildly, giving him lessons in morality. Don't expect a word of apology.
The difference is clear.
  • 4 3
@Chridel: this is southamerica, we dont get to travel much to worldcups, heck some of us barely eat. Annnddd to clarify, what you saw on tv is not what the guys at the finish where seeing. As per usual yo get to see what they want you to see, and thats drama, and its fine, gotta sell those cans Wink .
  • 2 2
@Matt115lamb: he has been triying to win this event por 12 years
  • 1 1
@bizutch: this guy its on the right topic!! Thats THE photo recap to be longing.
  • 2 1
Yeah, context... Damn I hate complex stuff.
  • 1 0
@Waterdown: Who is the guy walking away with dismay from the celebration ? Is that Fischbach ?

What a kick in the balls... I’ve been singing the praises about how Commencal has been crushing it lately with true ambassadors of our sport... I have (had) 3 bikes totaling over $9k in my shopping cart. Not super happy anymore. The Supreme DH will probably still happen. I kinda feel bittersweet about it now.
  • 8 10
@nuttypoolog: Max Commençal commented on the bad behaviour of the winner on IG. I don't get the "let's hang every bad guy" morality. Even on PB. Even from Merrikans.
  • 81 1
This new announcer guy is so annoying with how little he knows the sport.
  • 41 0
He also doesn't seem to know much about geography, politics or history.
  • 20 2
Just be glad it's not Brad Jay
  • 13 0
I may be out of the loop, but do we know who this new guy is? His commentary was pretty awkward. A little extra research and allowing Claudio to lead the conversation would have served him well. Yikes
  • 7 1
Where’s rob warner . He was over there.
  • 2 0
@siobhananon: Addison Zawada is mostly a fixie crit and gravel racer. He does work at a dh park but I agree he's probably not the best guy for this event. In his defense though, Red Bull didn't even bother to fly the announcers out. They were commenting on it from Europe so a large portion of the issues seem to be a lack of coordination between the scripts and the feed they are watching.
  • 1 2
@Mattock4130: kianda uncalled for, i dissagree from what i was hearing the host dude kept admiting how wrong he was to claudo... brad would of been a better host for this event for sure. @bradjay
  • 5 0
@stokersteinwand: "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! The Cork-720 is the NEW BLACK, WOAH, look at that RIGHT THERE".... etc. Nah, he is the human equivalent of a frat bro bumping dub step from a Dodge Neon with underfloor lighting. Like a parody of Pepper Brooks from ESPN 8.
  • 1 0
Yeah, painful to sit though all that nonsense he was blabbing about. Don’t know who he is but hope he gets better or doesn’t comment on events he knows nothing about.
  • 48 3
No much class there, celebrating while Slavik’s still on the ground ....
  • 5 1
It was really painful to watch Frown
  • 46 3
The guy who won, what a dick. He just drained his career in a few seconds. His appearance is now fucked
  • 34 0
Fischbach sitting in his seat thinking: wtf, why do you celebrate so hard when he just crashed like that... Hope Slavik is alright!
  • 35 2
Seriously?!?! No excuses please. Disgusting display by Ferreira. No class whatsoever. No mention of Slavik at all in the garbage post race interview.
  • 7 2
no mention was definitely the worst for sure, c'mon man get it together
  • 25 0
 Ouch Slavik! Hope he's OK.

@rasch23: Yikes, knocked out and broken fibula... I mean, a concrete jungle won't be forgiving, but... best wishes Tomas! Nurse
  • 3 0

@Unrealityshow: I agree. They need to get first language English speakers who can string a proper sentence together. I like Warner but the same applies to him.
  • 20 3
Maybe Ferreira is trying to become a chile-mountainbiking version of Shaun White.... I guess his sponsors are not really happy about the lack of sportsmanship he showed there. What a contrast to the other commencal-riders we know!
  • 21 5
Done this race two years ago and rode with both Pedro and Slavik. Last two years there were no monitors, just live commentary. And I can honestly say Pedro Frreria is a super super nice guy! I think he's more stoked that he just bagged himself 10k and I'm sure he will be wishing Slavik all the best!!
  • 9 4
Like even if there are no monitors, he is obviously aware how bad a DNF in a race like this could be. Not cool at all.
  • 9 2
There was a huge screen at the finish line for everyone to see the live feed
  • 4 1
@peytodog: that screen wasnt showing the live feed only bits from the track
  • 16 0
Oh man! That’s not how you wanna crash. Hope you’re ok Slavik
  • 13 0
Come back Rob Warner, all is forgiven.
  • 11 3
Who cheers when somome crashes out and gets hurt? A f*cking loser that’s who! I never comment but I have to say that’s bullshit. There all cheering down there by the looks of it. Pull his sponsorship Commencal you have a loser representing your brand!
  • 5 4
Just different cultures. Latin are so warm. For sure he desires the best to Slavick, but at the same time he can´t hide/repress he is so happy for having win... Are different ethichs and different ways to show, obviously on camera is much more polite the anglosaxon way... but as some has has spoken up here he is really warm and nice guy, so he does not hide his emotions. Into the other side they also are very used to see riders nasty crashing in this urban southamerican DH, is like bread every day... they don´t apreciate health and safety as much and they really seems enjoy plaing this devil´s game for them... so I guess is like you going to a boxing combat... people doesn´t give a f*ck, the winner is the winner...
  • 12 1
mispronouncing the winner's name so many times after having been corrected at the beginning - what a shame!
  • 5 1
 Embarrassing hahah
  • 10 0
Could have done without the big black box with the riders name obscuring the action.
  • 1 0
Looked like it was placed there for a broadcast feed (so framed for TV safe lines) rather than for a live internet stream (which always shows full frame). Probably broadcast in S. America.
  • 11 0
 The commentary is cringeworthy
  • 9 0
Tomas Slavik posted an update on his insta story, he has bandages on his legs (surprise to me based on what seemed to be a shoulder impact) but seems to be mostly ok.
  • 2 0
 Oh good!
  • 2 1
It looked like really hard hip slamp. Really surprised he hasn´t broken it... what a beast!
  • 9 0
Tomas went down hard, hope he is ok. These tracks are crazy. How do you even pick a tire for this?
  • 1 1
Just minnions Double DHF, or dhf front and SS rear. Done
  • 7 2
WTF would you celebrate winning when obviously he could see Slavik eat pavement. Just another poor example of classless attitude. Hopefully Karma will teach him a lesson if he races Andes Pacifico and gets his ass handed to him.
  • 8 0
Minimal room for error on that type of course, rad.
  • 5 1
Holy crap... absolute worst nightmare! That was a brutal huck-to-flat (no pun intended) slam... straight off the drop onto the side/leg and then onto/into his head... painful to watch... what followed was also painful to watch... straight from that to Pedro and everyone else losing their minds, with nothing further about Slavik? Really people? I mean, I get being happy and celebrating, but the juxtaposition was so bad, and maybe some restraint? Best wishes Tomas.
  • 6 2
Now that was some bad form. Yes that is how it goes in racing, but your reaction without regard for the condition of Slavic certainly didn't have a very positive feel to your win. I don't mean to take away from your win...but you stripped it of anything positive with your poor judgement and sportsmanship.
  • 9 1
 Love me some Enduroad.
  • 8 1
Such a pity Slavik went down
  • 9 4
As a Slavik fan I am pretty sad he didn't make it the whole way down (hope he's ok). Even more so after seeing that SCUMBAGS's display!

  • 6 4
Everyone is looking the bad side of it, probably most of you is first time you watch VCA, but as a Chilean and knowing Pedro he didn´t celebrate slavik´s crash, he was there in the hotseat a lot of times previous years, it just was the rush of the moment, finally he was winning that race
Even slavik on his insta congratulated Pedro, don´t be haters if you don´t know the background or the other side of the history
Obviously it don´t looked good at first time for lot of people, but watching it live with some friends we said that haters gonna hate when that happened

all of you are perfect persons and don´t make mistakes never??
  • 4 3
I've watched the urban and World Cup downhill circuits for many years and there is an etiquette, a common decency displayed when a fellow competitor crashes. Has Pedro has never watched a World Cup Downhill, where the guys in the hot seat react to the crash of a competitor with concern and grace? And his post race interview. Commencal should bag him.
  • 4 0
love when the first streams start appearing... season just around the corner, boys and girls... exciting times ahead...
  • 13 12
Come on guys.... Pedro was not to celebrate Slavik's crash or his broken leg or something... he's celebrate Slavik's mistake to win the race, they are friends, i though it was an espontanean reaction behind 12 years pursuit the glory to win VCA... Pedro and Slavik deserve the victory, Slavik make a mistake and Pedro wins.
