Idk if Rogatkin’s run was that much better than Rheeder’s. Congrats to both of them though. I still fell that they may have just wanted to give it to Rogatkin. One triple crown one championship. Tough call though either way.
I kind of agree but he only needed another 2 points for the win and I think he definitely rode 2 points better than his first run. With how the previous runs were scored they had to give it to him
I’m just glad that they’re completely changing the course for next year. This is cool and everything but I feel like I’ve been watching the same thing for almost 10 years. I heard that Semenuk is building the course, I don’t think no one but him is worthy of that.
duuUUUUUUde if semenuk returns to this event as the chief builder/host kind of figure a la mcgarry and the kiwi crankworx... that would be so damn perfect.
Can we see score breakdowns during the live broadcast for next year? I absolutely love this event and respect both the riders and judges, but the scores seem to have fit the narrative and marketing a little too well. Why not have full score transparency?
@tiago25: it's all about commitment vs finesse I think. Rheeder subscribes to the same school as Semenuk, slower and more composed tricks, while Rogatkin is a balls in guy who never leaves anything off his runs. The opportunity to hand him the first triple crown in Crankworx history surely played a role in his scoring, along with personal taste of the judges.
Don't get me wrong, both put together massive runs and I personally wouldn't want to be the one crowning one over the other. Tough decision it was.
@tiago25: both runs were proper burly, but I think as long as Rogatkin keeps throwing a trick nobody else can throw and holds extras in the tank for second rounds (tuck no hander back and fronts on and off the whale tail) I think they’ll keep giving him the benefit of the doubt. I love that they both really threw down, because it’s the perfect juxtaposition of style, Rheeder so smooth and flowing and Rogatkin so fast and amped. Congrats to both guys, they killed it!
@southoftheborder: Yes, both runs are good but totally different. I understand that was an opportunity to win the first triple crown in Crankworx, and I'm not question if he deserves it or no, because surely he deserves it. For me, he is undoubtedly the guy more determined in do what he wants whatever happens, he can crash 3 or 4 times in the same run, but always keep doing bangers for the crowd. I wouldn't like to be judge to make the final decision too, and with this 2 guys is always a tough decision. Rogatkin deserves the title, I don't question that, but for me Rheeder's run was better.
@catfish9797: I don't question that both runs were good, because definitely they were. How I said in the previous comment, I don't question if Rogtkin deserves the title or not, because I think that is more than deserved this title for him in the history. About Rogatkin's tricks, Diego can do a twister too... And I guess that Diego could make a front tuck off the whale tail too.
Maybe it's a matter of styles each one of us like, maybe both runs are equally good and both should draw in 1st place. I personally prefer Rheeder's style, and if I could do both runs in a contest, I would do Rheeder's run.
Anyway, we can discuss this of course, but we must care less about the winner and appreciate this sport and applaud all the riders for pushing the limits year after year. Glad to see Emil doing this run after almost a year without riding. I also liked Erik Fedko's run.
@tiago25: absolutely, I’m partial to style more like Rheeder’s and Semenuk’s than guys like Rogatkin and Nyquist (because they’re so compact), probably because I was a tall lanky rider in my prime age like those guys are and understand that way of manipulating the bike more, whereas Rogatkin almost looks out of control to me and everything is so violent, but obviously he’s not because he’s as consistent as anyone out there, if not more! I also 100% agree with appreciating what ALL these riders are doing, because it’s extraordinary!
One of the most intense joyride events yet! So sick to see less crashes and more full runs, everyone sent it! Mad props to Emil coming back from injury like that, so unreal, such an awesome feel good moment
when I see Cam and Bearclaw, all I can think about is NWD8 when Claw and Bourdon trapped Cam using a burrito as bait, and letting him free into the wild to Monkey Business by Skidrow. one of the most iconic segments of all time in my opinion. all these new school guys are cool and all, but none of them have done anything as cool as that segment. get of my lawn you kids
$25,000 for a win, or what $50,000 or $75,000 for triple crown is shameful. Single win should be more like $250,000 at least. I know athletes are stoked for what they're doing and what they get, but payouts are out of line with everything these guys do to do what they do and sell product for the companies and media. Just sayin?
Internet history zero - half way trough! First run f*ck them judges if Rheeder gets 1st and then wow (at the crash moment) hats off to him, let us see how it goes down!
Semenuk should be a guest JUDGE. Still wondering why Grant “Chopper Fielder is judging all these Diamond level contests.......And who is Kraig Kinsman anyway ?? ( Then again....would Semenuk be super bias as a judge..?)
@makripper: if it is all experience than why isn’t Bearclaw a judge? Or Chase and Lenosky? Or even Derek Westerlund? I am well aware of who Chopper is , and I know he is a good guy but I don’t think he is an MTB legend. Gully is tho. So Whatever- if they have eyes I guess they qualify as a judge. Don’t really f’ing care......
@SirWonky: meh, gully is class but also more of a big mountain guy, chopper comes from a dirt jumping background which is a better fit for modern ss. Both are more than qualified to judge and a good balance of backgrounds to be fair to everyone. Being a good rider also doesn't necessarily make a good judge either, they both have the experience in that over bearclaw etc.
@hgardner: Gully used to do JoyRide. Remember when Loud Brad handed him some fresh dollar bills (like $68 CDN) for attempting to get rad. #embarassment
Bernd Winkler apparently crashed pretty badly yesterday, and Max Fredriksson posted on Instagram today that he wasn't feeling like he was ready to drop in
In what way? I like watching Rheeder more than Rogatkin, for sure, but dunno how many points that counts for. Rogatkin threw down very hard on the last run and elevated his score.
Rheeder would have won if he landed his first run. He missed a few big tricks in the second run. Flip whip on the second double was a flip double whip in the first run and the truck out of the whale tail was a 360 triple bar in the first run. I still think the scores should have been way closer since Rheeders oppo tricks are insanely difficult.
Triple Crown is a title given to a competitor who has won three Crankworx Slopestyle events in the same year (in this case Rogatkin has already won Les Gets and Innsbruck), which has never been done before.
Watched it. Watched it again. Watched it again. Watched it again. Watched it again.
Don't agree with the results. Again.
Got a new nickname for you bro... Nascar. Because everything goes left.
Seriously though. Crazy good event. Dude's killed it. Great announcing. Course looked sick. Riders looked like they were having fun and throwing down some stupid tricks. Loved it. Gonna watch again top to bottom tomorrow. Thanks for PB for the replays.
The Reeder interviews are so funny. Dude is so humble. Reminds me of a Beck show I went to one time. Dude just wants to do his thing, and do it well. The "limelight" part of it makes him kinda uncomfortable.
What he said before his first run, that he "gave" the wins to Nikoli because he was working on his film... It was sooo distasteful and unprofessional...
@hail-euros: Haha. I made that first comment before that came up in the broadcast. Those comments were bad. I wonder the exact question was asked though (they didn't broadcast it)... All the slopestyle dudes seem to have good camaraderie so might have been an asinine question to begin with.
