Pretty sure camera position 11 will be in a courtyard of someone's house and there will be men over 50 sitting in the corner of the frame, around a table playing dominoes, drinking coffee, whilst chain smoking. Of course they will ignore the camera and the athletes riding by in brightly colored pajamas.
Gnarly track! But I am not a fan of the town section. It does not add anything to the race. And it's potentially dangerous. Just crazy speeds in a narrow flat street (and I hope nobody opens their gate).
@mikefromdownthestreet: how do you think Croatia gets to pay for this event??? It’s paid for by tourism and local governments, if they want it to finish in the Harbour where they can show off the local, then it will finish there. If they required it to finish in ol mates sailing Shop, it wouldn’t be in there if they are stumping the cash
@mikefromdownthestreet: The track needs to be a certain length to qualify for the UCI stipulations, finish it further up and the track is too short. They also need room for a finishing arena, hence the urban section. It's a shame they didn't add a few features to make it more interesting though, maybe a couple of gaps and a wall ride
@metaam: I was thinking this exactly, why not put a couple of jumps or wallride or something that would add a bit to it, its been done in so many races
The idea is to create a spectacle that entertains whilst promoting energy drinks, bikes, holidays to Croatia etc etc I just hope we get plenty of action from up top and not just the 'excitement' of the sprint through the town for our admittedly free entertainment.
Brendog this is a better course preview than Claudio tbh. I don’t mind Claudio, but seeing a current pro just put down a nice lap with not a lot of talking is really refreshing. We can really get a good gauge of the track. Plus Claudio should be happy to see his rider on that sweet gambler showing off.
Bruh there were already at least 2 other videos of current pros riding the track in complete silence.
and claudio is still a pretty great rider all things considered.
If you listen carefully, just before it cuts, I swear that’s the inimitable “ding” of uncovered rim hitting rock... I could be wrong, but I’m guessing a flat?
So, here is the stupid question of the day. After watching 8 years of DH, what are the whistles for? Splits? Does somebody click a stop watch when they here the whistle?
Problem is they will cover the town part in full, as they only broadcast the first seconds after the start (recorded) and then the second part of the course...
The cobblestone sections of rhe tour de france are rougher then the urban section of this track. It is embarasssing that something the lycra roadies would race on is a wc dh option.
We may see a roadie jumping and doing a backflip over this....
All those who are moaning at the urban section: wait until the race runs. Everyone who has decent fitness will be balls to the stem flat out through there. The top section will reward the technically skilled riders who can carry speed and protect their wheels, the bottom will reward those who have nailed the off-season training and have peaked their cardio for this weekend. If someone had nailed both they can get a really good result! It may not be a straight out classic venue that we all love to see but it will be an interesting one to watch, even if it just gives clues for the rest of the season for who is on it or not.
that track looks terrible, everything you dont want on a dh course. awkward rocks, huck to flat into awkward rock, and a 1 minute roll through a random village
It's a world cup race track and not a fun park.
Track looks rad.
40ft jumps
Rocks
Drops
Natural
Big gaps with consequences
Street spring when you hands and legs are hanging
No rest spot....
A 5 year old could ride 25% of msa, Fort William, etc we best take them off the cards too then. All the jumps can be rolled and the green woods could be rolled by a 5 year old so I bet a skilled 5 year old could ride over 50% of this track.

Not a popular sponsor that year XD

It's the other bits that make the difference.
