Maribor Practice Video and Travel Story

A quick weekend's racing at Dunkeld and then we were planning to set off on Sunday night...that turned into Monday afternoon from Oban and we were on our way south towards Slovenia. - It’s only a 3 day drive there.

We went for the good old channel crossing from Dover and then drove to Germany where Ben, Joe and I were welcomed and put up for the night by Harriet. We had some good quality meats from the farm, minus Joe and rode around on some classic German bikes. Harriet’s friends were also very pleasing on the eye.It was a pretty uneventful drive, no breakdowns, speeding tickets or sick bags used. We did witness a car crash just after it happened with a car on its roof in the middle of a field and a number of people hanking on the brakes and then running over to help. We saved our hero status for another day.

A few hours later we arrived in Maribor and picked up fellow Scottish rider Ali Wilson from the train station. We set up camp for the weekend and called it a night after a tiring and warm 3 day drive. A shower seemed so tempting but was just not on the cards until a solid night's sleep.

The track is the same to last year's with one slightly new section up top with a random stump in the middle of the corner; it will probably turn out to ride pretty easy but looks pretty cool. I’m sure Scott will capture some of this over the weekend and have it up on MTBcut soon. That’s pretty much it on the track, it’s just taped tighter this year so a few less lines than in the past.

This should have been up online last night but the wifi went off in the finish area. Shortly before beginning to write the blog I was asked to leave Scott Laughland's apartment. I was rudely asked to leave the building as visitors weren’t allowed in. Since when were people so worried about guests bringing friends into their room?

Practice today was amazing, the track is so much fun, so fast and mega dusty, but for how long. It's due to rain tomorrow so we’ll see how that effects things for Saturday's qualifying.

Peaty is going well here with a fast timed run today for him, let’s hope he makes it a 3rd win this season.

I'm off to hit the hay.

Good night.

P.S I was kindly bought lunch today (got some left over pizza) from the European Bronze Medalist Derek Laughland. Thank you!
