To all those runway models complaining about how ugly a bike is... you wear jerseys that range the entire autism spectrum, balerina shoes, and a salad bowl on your head. You are the pig, the bike is only the lipstick.

Just the cleanest burn Ive felt in years. Thank you.

That's a mix of some of the sexiest and ugliest bikes possible in the same lineup.

And some of them are the same bike! Front half of the wolf ridge is great, back end, not so much...

Straight tubes for the win! I think the Wolf Ridge and Attack Trail take the short shuttle bus to the top...

@MTBrent: The Attack Trail carbon is actually pretty good-looking in person, but I guess I'm biased. I love the way it looks though.

I quite like them, price is good and nice to see a groms bike to boot

This is what I like to see, a kids bike that goes from 24"-26" wheels getting full value out of it. Bravo Marin. Now come out with a 20"-24" and take my money.
  • 1 0
@Boardlife69: wheel size isnt as important as length/reach.
  • 1 0
Except that my e-riding eye spies a horrific space on the front for a 26" tire and lead foot to greet each other.
You might can put a 26" wheel on it, but if you're riding flats, it looks like you can foot brake the wheel while pedaling, something my wife used to do on the first extra small Juliana hardtail years ago. She hated that thing.
  • 8 0
I think the Wolf Ridge is one of the ugliest bike around but when i go riding i look forward on the trail and not down on the bike, so i would give it a try, it's a interessting concept and when it works better than other bikes, why not?
  • 3 0
I think it looks better than the polygon personally.
  • 12 3
Kudos to Marin for making a massively ugly bike & claiming an 'affordable' MRSP of only $5199.

I'm not expecting to see many (any) out on the trails Smile

I was lucky enough to be at the dealer launch for these bikes a couple weeks ago. Me and my staff laughed and laughed when we saw the first pictures of the Wolf Ridge. I returned from the trip to California (for the demo) with the Wolf Ridge placed at the top of my dream bike list. You can't see the bike when you're riding it and it lives up to all the hype regarding how it rides: like I am a total suspension nerd and thought I had experienced it all regarding ride quality and the Wolf Ridge has left me still trying to make sense of how a bike could ride like that.

All that said about the Wolf Ridge, it was the B17 that emerged as the bike I will definitely get (instead of dreaming of). After years of being a bike snob, riding only carbon bikes with piles of science behind their suspension designs, I find myself in love with an aluminum bike with "faux-bar linkage". Holy Crap what a fun and capable bike. This is the bike all the fuss should be made about because it is realistically priced, smartly spec'd and great geometry.
  • 4 0
As a bonus the B17 is SEXY. I'm a sucker for a raw finish and a nice, clean-looking front triangle.
  • 2 1
Riddle me this, since you sound like you're a Marin dealer. Is the B17 just a Rift Zone with low-fat tires? Loving the looks of the B17, and the price makes it a strong contender for my Fiance, but I'd like to be able to put my spare 29" wheelsets with fast rolling tires on it for when we're just shredding paved bike-paths.
  • 1 0
@maxyedor: Yup, same frame as the Rift Zone 29er but with 10mm longer travel fork to correct bb height for the slightly smaller wheel diameter of 27.5+. Their official word is B17 can be run with 29er wheels up to 2.4" but Rift Zone isn't 27.5+ compatible because the BB gets too low. The B17 is basically a poor mans High Tower being able to switch wheels back and forth depending on mood and trail.

Marin B17, 2018: when you've got to huck to flat at 7, but smash a KOM at 8.

 Check back in the fall...

Having ridden a wolf ridge 9, as ugly as it is you stop giving a shit as soon as you get on it, it genuinely pedals like a hardtail and decends like a dh bike
  • 3 1
Have you ever ridden a dh bike ? Just that the geometry isn't even close to that from a dh bike is one point that it will definitely not ride like one
  • 3 0
@emptybox: okay yeah I'll give you that it doesn't have the super slack head angle or any of that but basically what I was trying to say is that it f*ckin rips
  • 6 0
There's a lot of hype around the Marins; I'm looking forward to reading some unbiased review.
  • 3 0
" The Wolf Ridge 8 promises the same revolutionary chassis and pedaling performance of the Pro, at an affordable MSRP." In what part of the world is $5200 "affordable"? Seriously, I would love to move there. I do appreciate the fact that they do have dual suspension bikes in the real affordable range though (i.e. $1499)
  • 1 0
Ιs it the first time in MTB history that the reasonably priced models of a company look so much better than the top tier models? That B-17 is so clean!

To those critisizing anyone who cares about looks - I don't mind my car being old, cheap and ugly*, but when I look at my bike I wanna feel like it's calling me to take it for a ride!

*at least that's my excuse for having a shitty car...
  • 1 0
I really like the look of the Wolf Ridge, so yall can kiss mah bootay. Real question though, with the tall chainstays, will your chain come falling off every time you take the rear wheel off? I'm torn between that being really annoying, and being able to take my chain on and off without dealing with a quick link (which I know is easy, but this is even easier).
  • 1 0
Somewhere in the past after they ran out of fluorescent paint someone at Marin got a deal on silver, black and grey paint. Hopefully they run out of it soon so people can see past the same boring colours and see the bike underneath for what it is.
  • 1 1
Would be nice if they could redesign the Wolf Ridge to be produced in aluminium to help bring it to a lower price point. I think that for a bike like that the tiny (if any) weight saving carbon is going to give you isn't quite worth it if you still end up with a considerable weight. Probably in a few years from now when SRAM has also trickled the innovative huge-cog-technology down to the lower price points, they'll release one.
  • 1 0
Probably impossible to get the required strength with aluminium, the tray where the tube sits would weigh more than the rest of the frame. And you really didnt read much did you? Eagle gx is a much lower price point than x01...
  • 1 0
@inked-up-metalhead: If it would not be possible to make a certain part in a limited space out of aluminium, they could of course always resort to steel. Steel would probably still be cheaper than carbon as the (proper) production of carbon frames currently requires relatively manual labour.

Yeah I still think the SRAM line of drivetrain components is a bit more complex than Shimano, but I do understand you have a base group called NX and then you have GX above that. And then you have X0, X01, XX and maybe even more above GX. I also noticed that Santa Cruz and Juliana recently released some new carbon frames of which some versions will be kitted out with GX Eagle. So that's what you'll still find on a carbon frame. I thought that if at some point they'll release an NX Eagle group, you're going to find it on more metal frames than carbon.
  • 1 0
@vinay: your complaining its heavy when made out of carbon then saying make it super heavy steel?

Nx probably wont get the eagle treatment, its 11t bottom means it already misses the best feature of srams higher end offerings, and its like shimano only offering slx and higher in 11spd atm.
  • 3 0
That's as many suspension platforms as... like... three other companies put together!
  • 1 0
I thought the same thing when I saw the catalog Marin gave us before riding. I have always been happy to bitch about "faux bar" so I expected to not like the 3 bikes (Hawk Hill, Rift Zone, B17). After testing all these bikes I changed my mind. The faux-bar bikes work: largely because they're short travel so brake jack isn't a problem and the main pivot is positioned well to give good anti-squat (and pricing stays low). The Attack trail gets into longer travel where short dual link suspension's characteristics are more noticable and finally the Wolf Ridge is the expensive, carbon, dream bikes so the Nailed suspension makes sense.
  • 4 0
B17 bringing back the vintage Marin look. DIG IT!!
  • 1 0
The Wolf Ridge rides amazing! Pumped to be working with a company doing new things. Looks are subjective, I think it looks sweet, but I'm racing it because it rips. Sweet to see a Jr. version of the Hawk Hill, too!
  • 1 0
PB you missed the category with the cleanest looks - the hardtail line up. They should be worth mentioning in times where full sissies turn more and more into monstrous aliens by design.
  • 3 0
Are the Rift Zone and B-17 the same bike with different wheels?
  • 3 0
My next bike will be a hardtail. Where are those? C'mon Pinkbike!
  • 1 0
Is that simply because you are poor?
  • 1 0
 @deadmeat25: yes, but not simply
  • 3 0
The B-17's "View geometry here" button doesn't work, just a heads up PB.
  • 1 0
@MarinBikes when will these be available in the UK? Will there be frame only options? The rift zone and hawk hill look like my next bikes!
  • 2 0
Hey blahblahbikes. The Hawk Hill and Rift Zones will start arriving in the UK in August. The base level Hawk Hill is available now.
  • 6 5
I don't know if it's just me but the Wolf Ridge looks a lot like the new enduro bike of polygon.
  • 8 1
Because they are pretty much the same - both have "R3ACT" suspension design. Marin's is just a 29" 160mm version
  • 1 0
 Polygon own Marin
  • 7 6
I know showing my age, but I remember when Marins were the cool bike to have...now not so much.

Wolf Ridge 8 looks like an E-Bike...!

 They can't call that a B-17!!!

Real question on the Wolf Ridge is why no bottle cage mount on the underside of the top tube?
  • 1 1
Real answer: Because you are a c*nt.
  • 2 0
That B-17 is the sickest bike I've ever seen!! Hahahahahhaa
  • 1 0
So six new bikes to crow about and all the project manager gets quoted on is " Hey there is a cheaper sram group" .
  • 1 0
Does anyone know what the specs on the new Hawk Hill line will be?
  • 1 0
The Wolf ... "looks wise" is like a reincarnated Balfa !
  • 1 1
It just isn't, what the f*ck are you looking at? Literally nothing like a Balfa, at all!
You must have zero connection between your brain and any other part of your body and your hands just type whatever shit they like, you really could've just typed a cake recipe here and it would've made just as much sense. Very high pivot vs the lowest pivot point I've ever seen.
  • 1 0
@deadmeat25: Relax with your constructive and valuable feedback .. note the "looks wise" is in quotations. The correlation is how UGLY the bike is NOT the design itself (pivot points, etc.). Balfa's were the ugliest bikes made at the time, but "looks" had absolutely no bearing on how they performed, which was decent as any ex-Balfa owner would attest to (note the looks in in quotations again)
  • 1 0
There was a time when Marin made good looking bikes...
  • 1 1
 It looks like a Transformer....
  • 1 1
Is that an electric motor concealed in the swingarm of the Wolf Ridge 8?
  • 6 7
My god, they've designed some fugly bikes. Awful looking things.
