WTB employee Mark Weir’s home was ravaged by a fire two days after Christmas. Weir was at home with his wife and son, but was unable to stop the flames. Fortunately the Weir family escaped without injury. WTB wishes the best to Mark, Suzie and Gus, the next few months will undoubtedly be a tough chapter in their lives.

Inside is Mark's tale of the events and some pics of what remains.

  • + 4
Ah ShiT! Everyone was safe...huge plus!
  • + 4
Damn that sucks, I know what it feels like to lose your house to a fire, the pictures remind me so much of when I arrived at my house, charred stuff all over with little to be recognized or worth saving. Wish you luck for a quick rebuild and to return your home into well, home again.
  • - 1
best wishes. I hope you'll continue normall life as fast as it's possible
  • + 3

  • + 3
it pisses me off that things like this happen to good people, sorry about the loss, glad everybody's ok
  • + 3
 colin: theres insurance

  • + 1
i love how he is so postitve and at the end he still want to have another fire..... if that was me i would be sitting in the corner crying my eyes out because i just lost the sickest bikes ever. but it is great that everryone was ok!
  • + 1
That really really blows. Weir is a class act and I feel super sorry for him. Good luck in the coming months.
  • + 2
I've lost my houde to a fire once. Not fun stuff
  • + 0
o my god he lives in my town i've never heard of him, i feel so bad,and i respect him, hope he and his family are o.k. and hope they find a place to stay while they're rebuilding his house!!
  • + 4
youve NEVER heard of mark weir??
  • + 3
especially for being a rider in novato everyone has heard of him hes the best ripper in this town
  • + 1
i didnt mean never heard of him my words kinda got mixed up a lot, sorry.
  • + 1
Harsh shit. Hope it all goes well for you man. Its a shame.
  • + 2
It's great to see that he maintains a positive attitude and a sense of humor and looks for the good, even in this terrible situation. And its a pity about the bikes, but luckily he has great sponsors who will replace his bikes. He's a legend and will have no shortage of friendly people to help him out i'm sure, and hey, though it sucks he lost his house, he'll get a brand new one!
  • + 2
True, But I know exactly what he's going through. As an 11 yr old kid, it sucked. Having a beautiful house destroyed with everything in it destroyed, along with memories of the place is horrible. But I will admit my house burning to ashes was a good thing because of all the new shit.
  • + 2
Yea same, I miss my old home, memories are all that remain but I wouldn't trade my new house for the old one. Hope the insurance people don't low ball Mark like so many other before.
  • + 18
Shit, I feeel soo soo sorry for this guy Frown

I appreciate how lucky i am tup
  • + 14
 Woah that's shitty Frown

I may get shit for this, but anyone notice the Saint cranks are like completely fine? "Untouched by fire" They could use that as an ad.
  • + 1
 where are the saints?
  • + 1
 i did notice that, actually.
  • + 2
at 1.50 you can see them but just a bit...
  • + 2
their also in the last picture on the bottom left corner looking to be in pretty good shape still
  • + 1
and the tool box. sorry for your loss, at least your ok.
  • + 16
Hope he can make a strong comeback.
  • + 7
 Family...........Check.
Wicked Beard.....Check.
Perspective......Check.
Sense of humour..Check.
I think you'll be Just fine, remember to grind on the insurance company for 200% of actual value, you know they've been doin it to you.
  • + 9
bad luck for this fella, all the best for the future Smile
  • + 9
 Damn, that sucks ):
  • + 6
OMG... hope U and your family recover soon. My best wishes from Mexico. We unite to your loss!!! Be strong as you are usually man.
  • + 4
Thank you all. It’s a crazy feeling to know that everything you ever had is gone. I’m sure like most of you the garage is the place you spend most your time. The place where you get to know people better and always have plenty to talk about. It took me 36 years to fill that space and only 30 minutes to lose it all.

Setbacks like this make you realize what’s really important.

I few thing I have learned.

Get good insurance. One that will cover all your bikes. Not just one.

Get full coverage on things you love. I just finished restoring a 86 CJ7. It was not covered.

Hardwire your smoke alarms. So when they go off in the garage you can hear them in the house.

People that ride bikes are the best people I know.

Cheers to a simple life with good friends.

Thanks for the support

mark weir
  • + 9
 Sorry for you loss.
  • + 5
wow, the rims on the car melted but not the spokes or the rotors on the bike, that certainly says alot for the components best of luck to you tho
  • + 2
I noticed that as well, funny how the rims on the car are bigger hunks of aluminum so in theory they would take longer to melt than the bike parts but i guess having the burning tire around the wheels sped that process up.
  • + 3
Really unfortunate loss but I really agree with Mark that there is a real positive twist in a fire where everyone comes out ok and you get to see how great your friends and neighbors are. Best of luck to you and your family as you rebuild.
  • + 2
wow thats terrible, all those bikes and tires, and of course, the house! hopefully the insurance will cover it. that house was really close to a buch of trails for testing, i hope he gets a new house with such a great location, or rebuilds the burnt down one
  • + 4
Hey all, there is now a Paypal account to help Weir.

Go to Paypal and send your donation to helpweir@gmail.com. Send as much or as little as you like. Everything helps.
  • + 2
Some helping coin sent. Hopefully that can help with a kick-ass bonfire at the new place. Step up guy's, he probably needs it more then we do right now.
  • + 3
Sh*t that blows. The worst part is that insurance company will never be able to repair all the damages...
I should take this a warning to myself and move all my gears out of the apartment to a workshop.
  • + 5
Seems to be in quite good spirits considering what happened. on another note, he has an amazing beard.
  • + 1
santa cruz nomad, fox fork, many good stuff, santa cruz driver 8, now they're just dust, man, i'm happy that you and your family are ok, but i feel with you about our stuff, i couldn't imagine that if i were you, i hope your new year will be good happy and succesful

Sorry .Mark man, watched ya vid,and seen the carnage in the photo's,what can anyone say at this time of the year, real bad luck m8.All i can say is that bikes and property can obviousley be replaced. So the very best of wishes to you and yours at this time of year,i know ya'll have all ya Family behind ya at this time.So all i can sign off on is, better luck in the future m8 for you and ya Family and let the good times roll at Downieville, take ya mind off it now, ya powerless to change it and look forward with ya Family. ...The Gringo...
  • + 3
Yeah, that's the important part; Family.
Prayers and wishes go out to Mark and his.
Hopefully he can get back on his feet soon!
  • + 1
What a crushing blow to life. Being a new home owner, I can slightly tell what this would be like. Without a doubt Mark is lucky to still have his family safe and sound. If he is really lucky, it’s all just material items like his bikes that can and will be replaced. Here is to more good luck in the New Year Mark.
  • + 3
I say pinkbike should start a donation account on paypal for mark weir to help him out, that has got to be so depressing, what do you guys say? I'd donate no problem!
  • + 1
I hope you get everything back to normaal as soon as possible. luckly everybody was got out ok and you got to save your pictures thats the most important right? u can always buy new bikes Big Grin buying new bikes is always fun...got to look at the bright side
  • + 1
This guy's a legendary mtb dude. His name been around for years and works for a great company. That is why this is being posted. Hope he gets on his feet asap. What a loss. Best of energy for Mark Weir. Fuk it. Brand new start. Best of luck.
  • + 2
This really really sucks...just no words, your house and everything in it burned to the ground is truly one of the worst case scenarios in life. Hope he get over this and regain normal life asap.
  • + 1
Oh man... that really sucks! My heart goes out the whole Weir family. My boss lost her home in some of the wildfires down here in CA and it was truly terrible but, thankfully, they were traveling when it happened. I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to watch all the 'stuff' you've collected over a lifetime go up in smoke while you're powerless to stop it.
  • + 2
I am sorry to hear the bad news Mark. You have my best wishes for you and your family. Don't let this be about what happened but rather how you deal with it and become a stronger person for it.
  • + 2
im sorry for the loss and i can relate. however i wish this many people would be concerned with the thousands and thousands of innocent people that die and loose their homes everyday without anyone knowing.
  • + 1

  • + 1
Damn man that sucks big time but how can he stay so calm?
  • + 2
He and his family is alive, that's why. The rest are just inanimate objects, that's all they are, worthless piles of trash that can be damn fun to have and use while time permits. I admire Mark's attitude. May I take note and learn from their losses. He knows what's up. Mark is truly a lucky man and father. Unlike the 1 in 17 families that live off of zero income and receive only food stamps to survive on. Their homes will not return to them as quickly a Mark's family's will. The sick thing about all of this is that their homes are probably still standing. In my opinion, it's better to have a fire ravage every possession than to have the scum on Wall St. and Washington Ave. fuck up our lives, but what do I know, sitting here warm and comfortable in front of my nice computer, typing as if Mark is my best friend. Be strong life is short.
  • + 1
You do not deserve this !
