PRESS RELEASE: Marzocchi

It's October and in the mountain bike world that means Red Bull Rampage, the most iconic freeride event of the year. A time where rookies cut their teeth and test new limits; where veterans work on the tricks and lines they may have missed in years past; where photographers fill card after card with shots that may or may not reach iconic status. Through it all, Marzocchi riders have been Rampage front runners ever since the Godfather, Wade Simmons, won the first edition back in 2001.

Beginning today, in an ode to all that is Marzocchi's heritage, all team riders will be running limited edition custom Bomber purple suspension as they take to the course. Look for Tyler McCaul, Reed Boggs, DJ Brandt, Thomas Genon, and Tom van Steenbergen to be on purple Bomber 58 forks and CR shocks as they continue to write out Marzocchi's legacy on the beautifully treacherous cliff faces of the Southern Utah desert.

Make sure to stay tuned to @marzocchi_mtb on Instagram all week for daily updates of all the action as it unfolds!

bigquotesPurple has been a legacy colour of Marzocchi's for a long time - our forks have donned a plum hue beginning with the XC400 fork in the early '90s and carrying through to the fabled 55 RC3 Ti and DJ1 to name a few. This is the latest chapter in Marzocchi's long – and colorful – history.

Hey Marzocchi, make a DJ1 again, thanks.
  • 102 16
Make straight 1 1/8 steerer great again !!!
  • 43 1
@tulipanek: Why stop there, nothing wrong with a little 1.5" steerer that 4 people used.
  • 56 3
They should try a reverse taper; 1.5 stem clamp but tapers into 1 1/8 lower steerer. Get ahead of the competition before they catch on
  • 4 0
How do I give you more than one up vote?! Please read this Marz!
  • 4 0
Agreed! I’d buy one for my dirt jumper today!
  • 22 3
The last DJ1 I bought was useless. Had to get a Circus Expert instead and that was almost as useless. Can't somebody make a $250 DJ fork?
  • 4 0
Sassy looking stuff Marz, wish you guys would go back to bolt on axle's everything.
  • 3 0
@nikwashere: Ya seen those there too. They just added them to the album, those are stickers from 2011. Same with the 55 Ti's pictured are from 2010.
  • 5 0
@adamlaycock: and have sam pilgrim install it
  • 2 0
@nikwashere: I would buy that purple Marz DJ1 since I already have some purple bits on my bike ! :O
  • 1 0
@ImMattWard: That said, it was a good idea at the time. We were breaking the little ones. Tapered won that need to change.
  • 7 1
You guys need to be addressing your requests to @foxfactory
  • 3 0
 @endlessblockades: ya it's called a used argyle 318
  • 2 1
@tulipanek: HELL YA! I’d love a fresh 26” wheel 4” fork for my ti hardtail!!
  • 7 0
 Let’s cut to the chase...
Make Shivers again!!!!!!!!
  • 46 2
 @Skootur: we’ve been there...

PB Marzocchi fans: Bring back Shiver!
DVO: We will bring back Shiver
PB Marzocchi fans: yeah!
DVO: here’s Emerald! Upside down, open bath, Better than Shiver!
PB Marzocchi fans: F@#k yeah!
DVO: Yours for 2199$
PB Marzocchi fans: F@#k you!
  • 4 0
@Honda750: I think there is no 26''-option for this fork :-(
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: thats what the market is looking for an 250-300€ Airfork for an Dirtjump..Coil Forks are just to heavy..
  • 2 1
 @Braench: buy a used 34... just like I did.
  • 6 0
So it seems Pinkbike commenters best suggestion to Marzocchi is to make all the stuff they were doing when they went bust?
Okaaaay...
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: Yes Waki. You hit the nail on the head. TBH I’m regretting selling my old bike with the Shivers I had on it. As out of place as they’d be on the front of a light bike like my Summum, I also can’t help but think about what an awesome setup that would be...
  • 6 0
@IllestT: Nah they went bust when they stopped making quality stuff and had it made in the far east by the lowest bidder. most people want hrw pre 2008 quality back. i still have two sets of Mar forks from 05-06 still running. Moderate price, good performance 100% quality and reliability.
  • 1 0
Still got mine in the garage awaiting a nice HT frame to whack them on
  • 1 2
@biglev: so instead Marzocchi should make products that last so long that you only buy them once every 10 years.
Another great business model nugget
  • 3 0
@IllestT: Ha good point! but if they could last more than 2 seasons that woudl be great for MTB and the environment.....
  • 4 2
@Skootur: I have 2003 Shiver SC. It has it’s qualities but compared to even cheap modern forks, it is crap. It is not even well sealed. If you flip the bike upside down the oil will start leaking through top caps. It’s a pain in the ass to tighten the lower nuts because the whole cartridge rotates. On trail it turns when you slam the brakes. It dives like hell, it has no low speed compression damping what so ever. It collapses on steep take offs and berms. Zero stability. It’s a hammer for hucking.

People forget that Marzocchi was absolutely best... at the time. It has been rendered useless by the arrival of forks like Lyrik, 35 Boxxer, 40 and 36. Which by the way coincided with dramatic loss of quality after 2007. Yes the 44,66 and 888 RC2 Ti were decent, but they still
Dived as hell, and were still no match to forks like 2011 36 RC2 Van. Whoever praises Marzocchis hasn’t ridden 36 Vans with Fit RC2
  • 1 0
@IllestT: I think their product reliability was exceptionally high from 2001 onwards. My 2003 Monster T's are still running fine. I think they have been serviced once in the past 10 years and I've never replaced the seals
  • 1 1
@IllestT: But then the bike lasts longer and you can sell it at a profit for that next best bike!!
  • 3 0
@lacuna: To be absolutely fair with you, I'm from a country where anything good bike related costs an absurd amount of money. 1000 pounds are more than 5000 reais and the minimun wage is 1000 reais. Something that can last so much time is more than welcome.
  • 2 0
@biglev: actually everything from 2010 onwards was proberly better than everything from fox and rockshox but the damage was done. 2008 and 2009 ruined then imo.
  • 2 0
@WAKIdesigns: ... at the time. you are probably right. my 66rc 170mm are still a great fork but i am in fact riding fox 36 smashpot coils.... so i will concede that. the 66 are good but weight shed loads more than a modern fork
  • 2 0
@biglev: I had 66RC2x. It was amazing. At the time. And it wasn’t the weight that bothers me. It was Virtually no low speed compression damping. It had some weird knob in the bottom of the left leg that was making it harsher but it wasn’t any legit LSC. I take 2007 Lyrik Uturn MiCo with removed lockout over any Marzocchi any time of the day.
  • 1 0
 @WAKIdesigns:
I also have a shiver SC 2003. But I'm stuck with no seals or bushing.
It has some great features: coil sprung, legs full of oil, no seals dragging except dust wipers, and a decent bushing overlap when sagged . and being able to drop the fork on climbs is the best "climb" feature I know.
But it is flexy as hell, overlap isn't that great at full extention, no high speed shims so it doesn't do better than a moco or TK from rockshox, not that light even for 2003 standards, and I don't know the price for new but don't expect to be low.
I thing they did good value to price ratio until rockshox made a decent air spring and a plastic moco with floodgate, that is dirt cheap and somewhat ok on the ground. After that they had a lot of complex metal parts that didn't worked well event in high end quite recent forks, like the 55 ti 2010 (2011?), that is full of metal parts but all is actually worse than cheap plastic moco. And the stanchions aren't stiff enough to keep air in airspring, and random bushing play doesn't help. And I also dissected their pressurized suntour cartridge, only to find the worst expensive to garbage ratio i have ever seen. A well-made precisely CNC'd piston using it's bushing as a check-valve and a hole as a rebound circuit. Awesome.
Don't forget reckless shareholders and nearly no OEM market shares that finished them.
  • 3 0
 @tulipanek: True that!!!!
  • 1 0
How about buying a Z2 and lowering it?
  • 1 0
My nuts turned purple when my bomber cr chamber exploded last week Frown
  • 1 0
@Matt115lamb: you are lying. According to Pinkbike Marzocchi ball-sack-gobblers club it is imposisble.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: if the 2003 shiver is that shite , why have you still got it ?
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: it was on a kenevo ebike so that may not count lol
  • 1 0
@Matt115lamb: nobody wants to buy it?
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: bin it or make a nice lamp
  • 1 0
@adamlaycock:if they did that how would you put the fork on

Marzocchi knows the Formula to increase sales is to paint their suspension different colours
  • 6 0
 underated comment

(looking at formula suspensions signature colour)
  • 3 1
@moose-tastes-good how so glorious traditional pb style comment. You have all my admiration for today.
  • 2 2
So you think they will release the color scheme to the public?
  • 6 1
 @pargolf8: They just did.
  • 3 0
 mmmm... moose...
  • 5 0
@onemanarmy: i mean it doesn’t specifically spell that out in the press release
  • 2 1
@pargolf8: I was being a smarta55 because with the press release they told the public the guys at Rampage were running purple forks... so they did release it to the public.

As far as a product. I'd say beg for it and see what happens.
  • 2 1
Except from the article is isn't clear if they're selling this to the public or not.
  • 4 0
@onemanarmy: ohhh, sarcasm. Well it did make me actually read the article instead of just looking at the pretty pictures. So there’s that!
  • 2 1
@j-t-g: must be the idiots neg propping dont read well??
  • 1 1
@Zay: How to piss off Any American- mmm...tastes just like Eagle!

 Brendog on Zocchi?

#Teamrumors
  • 9 1
I seen it. It's been removed from the page now?
  • 7 1
 Wishful thinking! Wink
  • 5 1
 Wow removed
  • 4 0
@harrybrottman: Haha but already seen it haha nice try Marzocchi we all know that Brendog is on Marzocchi/Fox now hahaha
  • 3 1
@tulipanek: wonder if it’s the entire Scott dh team or if it’s a seperate deal for Brandon. He already runs some different components than the other guys.
  • 2 3
@harrybrottman: I'd venture to guess he's riding for FOX as is the rest of the Scott DH team.

He's a factory rider. Had a great year. First top 10, etc. Do you really see Scott moving their entire roster to Marzocchi? They had a tremendous season if you look at all disciplines combined. Don't really see them messing with the recipe too much.
  • 4 2
Fox seems to tier their riders between FOX-MARZ based on result now.
  • 3 0
@onemanarmy: this was not his first top ten.

@harrybrottman: he's on his own program but still riding for scott. he's talking about in the first minute: www.youtube.com/watch?v=POeprHcKSyk
  • 1 0
@Patrick584: good catch. Was his best result though, no? 4th top 10?
  • 1 0
Sorry phone fingers. 14 or so right? Was thinking top 5 in my head for some reasons n but I think he’s hot 4 or 5 of those. Sorry brendog.
  • 1 0
@Patrick584: Gonna put myself on time out for that one. Jesus.
  • 30 0
 Bring back the 66 rc2x!
  • 4 0
Benchmark for performance for sure - wish I never sold mine
  • 5 0
 2006 66 rc2x = da bomb
  • 2 0
Fact, thats was the best fork i ever owne should never of sold it. .i still have my 2005 rc which are nearly as good.
  • 1 0
@biglev: Almost cried after I sold my 2005 66RC. I then got the 888 Evo Ti 2, nothing was the same.
  • 26 0
There is something right about seeing marzocchi at rampage.
  • 17 0
Can’t wait to see the bike checks that coincide with these purple forks!!!
  • 2 0
I am pretty sure TMac has already posted a few things about his custom frame, and damn is it easy on the eyes. Really well done.
  • 2 2
@Azonic2002: Deity just posted the full bike.
  • 17 6
Old Marzocchi is DVO. All this new stuff is just Fox, rebranded
  • 7 5
Exactly - why call it a Marzocchi if it's a Fox???
  • 2 2
@NoriDori: well it does have fox internals
  • 11 0
@NoriDori: catering to different audiences with different identities and budgets. I bet there's a good amount of people who would rather run the Marz stuff over low end Fox stuff for the look... shoot maybe even over the high end Fox stuff too. Those red lowers and springs look sweet. I wouldn't be the least surprised if I found out Marz sponsored riders are running the high end fox dampers and springs.

Many companies run different brands under one roof - acrua/honda, lexus/toyota, jordan/nike
  • 1 0
Yeah, if marzocci made their DH fork in a 29 I would have been extremely tempted to pick that up.
  • 5 4
Marzocchi died the day fox bought them. I am glad i have collected allot of their forks and still have them. Old and newer monster t. Supermonster. 888rc2x. 888 evo v2. 888 evo v2 ti. With ti-nitrate stanchions. Shiver dc. A Nos 96/97 z3 light. Still in its box. And some other zocchis. Will prob never sell. To much nostalgia vallue there.
  • 6 0
And they would have died for real if fox didn't buy them. Besides, they're starting to differentiate their product with their new trail fork
  • 6 1
@mayhemsport: the real Marzocchi died when they moved their production out of Italy.
  • 1 0
@lawrence: On the money there fella. 100%
  • 1 0
@diegosk: I beg your pardon, but isn't the air spring from marz exactly the same as fox, only difereciatig on the damper side?
  • 2 0
@mayhemsport: Those forks belong to a well decorated wall inside your home!
  • 2 0
@lawrence: the 888 evo v2 and 380 is way better than every pre taiwan production forks from them. I got all of the versions of 888. The old ones are good. But not as good as the last 888. And a propper set up 380. Those had to be done correct. Or they would not act right. I have at the moment four 888's on bikes. All highend versions from different years. The last version of the 888evo v2 ti is my favorite fork. Waiting for a bike my dvo emerald fits on. That is the best upside down ive tried period. Yes i do collect. See no point in selling. 26/27.5 dh dont have much resell value these days. And running my own shop for 10 years had its perks. First year 08 of taiwan had some production issues. But most got sorted. Bushing issues. Local dealers usually sorted that out. If you where lucky to have one localy. I bought first rc3. Loved it. A friend of mine bought it and still rides it hasslefree. With regular oil and sealchange.
  • 1 0
@NoriDori: Fox forks do not have a M shaped brace on lowers?
  • 7 0
Well, I like my Z1 with Grip damper, it was less expensive than a 36, it’s stiffer than a 36, and it takes a Vorsprung Smashpot Coil like the boss! Also liking my CR Coil, though it cost a couple dollars to get it tuned.

I think Fox, I mean Marzocchi, should just go coil on the Bomber and make it original.
  • 2 2
I will disagree with you on the coil side. I mean, there could be an option for a coil, but air is lighter and super smooth today, it's not a necessity anymore.
  • 1 0
@Notmeatall: air is lighter, true, but smoother? No friggin way!
Clearly you ain’t ridden a coil fork, the lack of stiction is only one feature worth the weight, then add in linear compression, consistent feel, and less maintenance, really only a weight weenie would complain.

If Bomber is going to separate from Fox, they need to do more than offer cool colors; I do like the purple.

The Grip Damper works, but make the Z1 a factory coil and you’ll have a real winner.
  • 1 0
@nurseben: Like I wrote, air is super smooth. It's not smoother than coil because of seals. But air can be fine tuned in a suspension. Tokens, Vorsprung Luftkappe, conversion to coils... Anyway, I ride an older fork with coil, and while it's the smoothest thing in the parking lot, or descending brake free, it is allways in the bumpstops when i'm braking. Only if someone made progressive coils or if you could use 2 or 3 different springs inside the stanchion. Then I will be sold to coil forever.

 @mi-bike: poor critiques of humor
  • 12 7
Mountain biking was trying way too hard to be cool back in 1993. Glad we got it straightened out and fully mainstreamed with $5000 bikes with matte paint jobs and proper water bottle cages.
  • 5 0
The 90s was trying too hard to be cool in general..
  • 1 0
@zyoungson: My MC Hammer pants were the definition of cool
  • 8 1
Make Super Monster again (this time for 29" wheels) !
  • 6 0
Pretty easy, just make the dropouts somewhere down the 5 inches of lowers that protruded below the axle origially....
  • 2 1
You allready can use 29" in them. 2.35" magicmarys fit. I have a supermonster in my collection. There is so much space in that fork.
  • 1 0
Just take the brace off , 29er ready.
  • 2 0
@bigburd: dont need to. Even with a 26x3.0 gazzaloddi. There is so much space my hand fits between the m arch and tire. And the 29" fits. But the bike becomes so insanely tall its redicules. 24"x3.0" gazza makes it useable.
  • 5 0
Purple for the masses or just for their athletes?
Wouldn't mind a metallic purple z1.
Odd that the article has a picture of an old 55.
  • 3 1
My first fork was a purple xc400, on a purple specialized stump jumper M2. I remember the fork being really smooth. Bike got stolen and new bike had a mag 21 which felt like trash by comparison. I’m sure it would feel like a wet noodle today but still remember that bike as being absolutely awesome.
  • 2 0
I've got those 2010 purple 55 RC3 TI's in my garage. They looked rad but the cart was the older pre Evo rc3 and started leaking out the compression knob. Bought a used set of '14 55 RC3 Evo v2's and they are SO much better. Slightly stiffer stock to spring and rebuild able damper.... Only with they were 27.5 compatible. Tough to find that combination of suppleness and end stroke support.
  • 1 0
I had these - started having withdrawals when I got rid of them to go 29. But the cane creek coil provides that zocchi suppleness and midstroke addiction.
  • 3 0
What is the old Marzocchi a purple xc700?I had the DH3 in green, awesome fork for the time.Yes that's right a 3" travel DH fork.
  • 4 0
What are the odds of being able to buy a purple spring for the CR? Or will this only be for the sponsored riders?
  • 4 0
Nice for marfoxxi to use old, classic forks that they don't support with spare parts in marketing for new stuff.........¿
  • 3 1
How many other companies support a fork from mid 2000s?
  • 2 1
 @zyoungson: how about a fork from 2015?
  • 5 3
@nojzilla maybe because it’s easy to capitalize on fkng “white people”? All you need to tell them is a story of the great past? Cuz only white people look into the past and go, aaaaaaah, everything was better waaaay back... oh the hooches on stanchions, oh the color people bringing lemonade after we were done riding horses, all ruined by PC people, we need a president that will make it all great again...

cheap stories of the past sell very well
  • 1 1
@WAKIdesigns: maybe "Rich white people". Here I am, "poor white trash" all pissed cos I couldn't get my 4yr old 55 repaired, enough to never buy anything 'M' again an pissed enough at Fox not supporting pre'buy'out forks to consider buying anything Fox but, then there's a shop selling 2018 OEM 40's for £480..........
hmm, Yeah I never learn! Big Grin
  • 1 1
@WAKIdesigns: P.S I'm also waiting for my 380 C2R2 Ti to shit the bed so I can sell that top of the range fork for spares or repair money Frown
  • 1 0
I have to sympathise there, particularly with the 380 - The fox buyout should have included some support for your very recently purchased fork Imo.
Won't windwave or tx tuned fix it if it's broke though? Parts are normally around for a while, I can still get parts for all my old marz forks
  • 1 0
@nordland071285: maybe, when I needed the 55 fixed two suss centres told straight up nope an one said they could do the work if I could find the parts :/
  • 1 0
@nojzilla: The problem is with the UK distributors Silverfish. They told me that my 053 rear shock (2016) was obsolete, as spares are no longer available. Service kits are there on the Fox US website, but Silverfish don't import them. Lying c@nts.
There is a guy in Germany called DZ Suspension (I found him on mtbnews.de) who can source spares and service Marzocchi for anyone who's interested.
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: Ummm, can we be serious for a moment? I do believe the vast majority of mountain bikers are white and have always been white, so in a sense you are correct, but it’s kinda full of straw ... your argument that is.
  • 1 0
@nurseben: you missed the expression “white people”? I am Polish living in Sweden, why do I have a better knowledge of you Afro-American comedy as well as a period in GIF making that started the meme making?

One of examples
knowyourmeme.com/photos/329991-rebecca-black-friday

It refers to something so lame, only white people could do. It is racist, in means in comparison to an average Brother or Hindu, white people can’t sing, move, dance, thus get women... but it’s white people so we can openly say how bad they are. May also include raising a diesel truck, hunting bores with dynamite, all sorts of hillbilly misconduct...

cit. "Purple has been a legacy colour of Marzocchi's for a long time - our forks have donned a plum hue beginning with the XC400 fork in the early '90s and carrying through to the fabled 55 RC3 Ti and DJ1 to name a few."

Italian company said !
  • 1 0
I know I'm just re-stating PB's commonly held opinion, but Marzocchis do hold a special place in my heart. XC500 was my first ever suspension fork (hence the best ever), then in the later 90s I had a Mr T and then a Monster T. I still ride that fork every once in a while and it's still a great fork; if of course *slightly* overweight by today's standards. When was the Z1 released again? In 1997? Such a revelation at the time, what with all the Judys etc. that weren't even close performance-wise.
  • 3 0
I love that shot with the rope in it. If you need a rope to climb up or down it, mine as well huck it!
  • 2 0
Nice one, now a 38mm single crown fork would be nice for us larger folk, or anyone who likes to put a trail bike thru its paces and doesnt fancy using a dual crown, p&t.
  • 4 0
What I would give for that to be ordinarily available! Drool
  • 2 1
@MarzocchiMTB will this be for sale?
Drool Just when I'd decided on my dream shred white and blue build, that purple and gold, wow gotta give that a tough second place, dang you lol made me momentarily reconsider
  • 1 1
@mtbikeaddict: Purple would look sick with white and blue.
  • 1 1
@onemanarmy: Also true. I was just thinking between the two builds... still want the patriotic build most, but with that suspension I could probably figure out a cool purple and gold build, go Huskies! Big Grin Or maybe the other way around and get a purple Stumpy and some Ohlins... purely hypothetical lol but fun to dream.
  • 6 4
 Shit Pinkbikers say:
Mavic and their yellow is not fitting any bike, super dumb.
Michelin and their yellow/blue decals, don’t fit any bike either!
Kashima color is so stupid, messes up my bike
DVO green is so cool! - yeah!... wait why? - cuz monster energy, lifted trucks and moto hooches
Rockshox red doesn’t fit any bike - yeah, like Fox leopard kit
Marzocchi Purple - same here...wait it’s Marzocchi! That’s sooooo coool!
  • 3 1
@WAKIdesigns: For the record I like the red Lyrik, and the new raw and blue ones. I like DVO... actually I just like colors in general. It's so boring when EVERYTHING is black. That's my one peeve, Spank had great color options but now it's virtually all black. Mad Yeah, "PB" in general can say all that, b/c the collective comment mass isn't a single person. You're bound to get different opinions when you're sampling thousands upon thousands of people.
  • 5 1

 It's a Fox 40 with a grip damper.

 except it's not.
  • 3 1
@onemanarmy: not what.? A Fox 40 with Grip Damper . It is.
20 mm axle . Yes it is.
Less in price than a Fox 40. I think so.
Why the hate bro?
Doesn't matter Fork has what I like.
Whatever floats you boat I guess.
  • 1 0
@Sshredder: O.K. it's mostly a 40 with a grip damper. But it is beefier with a. completely different lower. Not hating. Think they're both great options depending on what your'e looking for.
