Masters Of What?!

MASTERS OF DIRT!

The Vienna Stadthalle hosted a high-impact 'M.O.D' season kick-off weekend. It was hard to imagine just how the new highly-publicised 'Pushing the Limits' version of the show could possibly top or exceed past M.O.D highs. Even with many of the big-name International action-sports returning, the show had several unexpected and exciting additions. Masters of Dirt by Monster Energy ensured that every one of the over 25 000 fans in Vienna on that weekend, were kept on their edge of their seat for every segment of the new show!

Inside this article you're about to see 'M.O.D' the way you have never seen it before... Follow Sam Reynolds and his fellow companions to see that a typical day at this event is far from being... typical!

photo
photo
Sam Reynolds, himself... Ready and focused to give 100% over the weekend!

photo
And this is how it all starts...

Szymon Godziek presents a stylish superman during the practice session

photo
photo
Supermen were flying all over the Stadthalle. Andreu and Xavier are showing how the perfect execution of that trick should look like

photo
Not a perfect start to the warm up session for Tomas Zejda. But it didn't take long until we saw him back on the jumps

photo
More riders started to turn up to practice... Simon Moratz entering with an unusual way

photo
photo
photo
Bastian Radloff, Regional Communication Manager at Monster is making sure that everybody knows their place. At the same time Simon is dialling his tricks. It doesn't matter who you are and what are your duties during the event - everything must be smooth as butter

photo
Walking up the roll in - the hardest part of the weekend for all the riders...

photo
You can see that high number of cases with hi-tech gear is needed for such a big show... Oh, yeah.. That is Linus Sjoholm going sideways

photo
photo
When the practice session is at it's peak, Sam was doing his biggest tricks. All stands were empty, but it was only the matter of a few hours to make all the seats taken down to the last one of them

photo
photo
photo
photo
Dawid Godziek doesn't disappoint, at all! He was on fire that weekend and pulled all the best and biggest moves out of bag of tricks for the show. I saw many nailed 'Nac Nacs', but damn... Thanks to that extension, Dawid took it to the next level!

photo
photo
The practice session is slowly going to it's end. Simon did a sweet Flip-Nac to be sure he can perform with confidence during the main show of the day

photo
Linus does a text-book Superman. Yes, he is ready to show to the public what Freestyle MTB is all about!

photo
Even the local TV channel paid a visit to make a feature on M.O.D.

photo
photo
The FMX guys couldn't wait for their turn to practice. The air quickly became 'smoky-blue' when they showed up... Push-bike riders had a moment to catch a breath and chill-out...

photo
A bunch of them decided to watch FMX riders sweat...

photo
Xavi wanted to shred the electronic version of Motocross

photo
Bartek 'Pope' Obukowicz was practising his secret tricks while enjoying the sunny weather

photo
Sam, together with other riders found refuge in the ''Healing Room''. A long weekend of riding on the highest level definitely can take toll on human body

photo
photo

photo
photo
After the FMX guys finished their practice runs, it was time for the mandatory group shot.

photo
photo
Georg Fechter - The Mastermind behind the whole idea of 'Masters of Dirt'

photo
Sebas Romero was present to shot a promo for the newest clothing collection of 'M.O.D.' Honestly, if there is one perfect photographer to stand up to this task, that is Sebas, for sure! His style mirrors the concept of 'M.O.D' in the best way possible

photo
But this was not enough... Come this way...

photo
Behind these door was Sebas' Photo-Kingdom

photo
Sebas has created a superb work place for himself... Personally, I was blown away by how amazing his attitude and approach to photography is!

photo
I am sure that I wasn't the only one who felt that way, because Sebas' room was packed at all times

photo
photo
Segway. This thing was unofficially the best toy of the weekend. That thing was coming from hands to hands between people who wanted to have some fun on it. And believe me, it caused a few comical situations, including making a total fool out of myself!

photo
photo
MiniBMX was on high demand, as well.

photo
  Swagger

photo
Meanwhile, tension behind these door was rising higher and higher with every passing minute...

photo
Last check before the final call

photo
photo
Everything must be in fully running condition

photo
photo
Those who could go backstage were lucky to meet their idols.

photo
photo
photo
Franz Grossmann and his crew can't wait to see it all go off

photo
photo
Georgie calls 'Riders Meeting' to once again and 'step by step' go through routine of the show

photo
  Pads are on...

photo
'Click', Helmet is on, as well

photo
photo
Highly anticipated moment is in the air...

photo
photo
BOOM! It's on with the full force. The beginning of the show is an amazing pyro and fireworks demonstration linked with dance choreography.

photo
photo
photo
After a quick introduction, it's time to show off... Andreu's dropping in!

photo
photo
photo
What's so cool about 'M.O.D.' that besides 'seriousness' of big tricks on push bikes and other heavy machines, there is also room for fun skits, too. Alfonso, the pizza delivery guy was my favourite one

photo
photo
Andreu is out of this planet! He was unstoppable during the weekend

photo
Xavier Pasamonte and his fully dialled 360 tailwhip

photo
photo
Linus' signature trick - Lazy Frontflip. My heart skips every time he does that!

photo
photo
Sam was under heavy influence of FMX all weekend and that's why pulled off the 'Flinstone', which was 'reserved' for FMX riders for many years, but not anymore!

photo
During the break-time, in the VIP lounge, except tasty food and beverage, there was a cool flatland show

photo
Break's over... You should hear the roar of those engines

photo
photo
photo
Simon says 'Let's make some noise!'

photo
photo
photo
photo
Patiently waiting for their turn... 205kgs/450lbs snowmobiles were a big surprise to the public. You don't see these machines everyday in Europe, not to mention flying that high!

photo
photo
  Braaaaaap-Klang-Swooooosh

photo
photo
Hell yeah! Quad was another huge highlight of the show... People of Vienna loved it!

photo
Final trick was Johnny Blaze and his buggy go up-side-down! It's amazing to see this kind of stunt with your own eyes...

photo
photo
Right after the show there was Signing Session. It was a great opportunity to the public to meet their heroes and get some cool memorabilia and autographs...

photo
photo
photo
photo
Last working Segway is broken due to unknown fault... Seems like it's a good reason to call it a day...

photo
Vienna - It's been a true pleasure... The show is done and dusted, which means only one thing - Afterparty!

My question for George- I'm only a little older than you and I'm living the dream- working in a sweaty office surrounded by geeky men and overweight women for 40hrs a week.... Fancy a swap?

George - How did Vienna become the choice city to hold this event in? Certainly there were other choices worldwide to hold this event on a much bigger scale, or is that coming in the future? Watching this screams the best show on earth and needs to have a stop on every continent in the world!

Epic show and all the riders killed it and looked like they were having fun instead of gettin caught up in the heat, how it should be. I want to put on some little events around my area, do you feel it was somethin in the management or a good group or guys that made it flow?

With such young energetic crew do you see the after parties harder on the riders than the show is?
  • 1 0
Georg, apparently your godfather is the Hoff (David Hasselhoff) is that true?? As people raise your age founding and managing MOD, it's certainly useful coming from a privileged background with plenty of good connections isn't it? (well who wouldn't if had this at their disposal) but it wouldn't happen without hard work though- live it up while you're still young!

George, have you ever thought about making an outdoor show which would be as big as this one in Vienna Stadthalle? I know that weather and other things could make a huge mess but still, what do you think about the idea of picking the venue where "dirty" sports came from, some natural habitat?
  • 1 0
Why is everyone asking George something? Isn;t ok to have a great show with great riders, great tricks and great girls? Is this because it says Monster energy and not RedBull? I mean come on, at least respect the riders, tricks and the show if you don;t like the drink, founder or any other not so important element from that category Smile

When i think of how pizza delivery guys usually tend to ride, i bet Alfonso wasn't actually part of the show. Just passing by when one thing led to another ...
Do you know if that "air delivery" costs extra?
