The chairlifts had barely settled from their long winter shifts when 2015 National DH Champ Matt Beer rang up to the offices of the Sun Peaks Bike Park, to inquire about checking out some trails and filming a rider segment the week before the 2016 Canadian DH Championships.

Don’t let the scenery distract you, Lupines in full bloom on Barn Burner.

Following the Panorama stop on the BC Cup circuit, Matt rolled into the resort just as the first tires were gracing the newly completed race course with plenty of fresh soil waiting to be tossed around, and dissected for both potential video and race lines.

Stumbling across a little of the elusive interior loam on Insanity One.

If you’ve ridden a trail with Matt you probably immediately noted he launches himself off of everything in sight. He puts a new spin on the Sun Peaks trails and introduces some sneaky new lines for the next generation of riders to marvel over.

“What rock face?” He says, before soaring clear over one of the bigger ones on Insanity One.

Scoping out a pretty wild root-to-root step down for his bag of tricks on race day.

Taking a new approach to the rock garden on Barn Burner.

The Trail Crew had invested some major blood, sweat, and tears into revamping the majority of the park’s machine made trails earlier this summer. We had the pleasure of sampling some of the goods, and Matt even pulled out a few fancy aerial maneuvers on Steam Shovel’s dirt jumps for your viewing pleasure.

Don’t mind the cows, focus on the fresh berms on lower Home Run.

Laying those Minions over sideways after landing deep in a corner, on Barn Burner.

Of course, the film wouldn’t be complete without a sample of what made Mr. Beer the National Champion last year in the first place, a ride down last year’s race course. It didn’t take long to understand how he took that title, and frankly, the handful of guys who knocked him from the podium this year must be at least partly bionic.

Coming in hot, down the rocky cute of DH that won him gold nearly a year previous.

Great rider and location, but there is entirely too much slow-mo for my tastes.
  • 21 2
appreciated half the slow mo shots. the rest could have been just as good regular mo.

Slow-mo but still faster than you I reckon Smile

Like the slow mo to see the details but the effect is the same just looking at the stills.

@karoliusz: Easily the lamest thing I've read on the internet today, and my grandmas been posting political memes on Facebook all morning.

How has no one commented on that sick slow scrub with the front tire holding on to the rim for dear life.
  • 13 3
Too much slowmo IMO, sick rider tho!

Great rider, but the video made him look slow.

Wow! This video delivers on giving a little taste of MB's talent on the big bike. I hope we get to see his trail bike skills showcased in a future episode. It's been said plenty but Mr. Beer is a fantastic lad off the bike. I have had the pleasure of working with him in the off-season for a number of years. His leadership, discipline and integrity on the bike, and off, has been the source of his own success but has also had significant influence on the current talent pool of upcoming Canadian riders. His influence and legacy go well beyond this great video. Keep at it Matt!

All personal preference obviously but sometimes slow mo jusy kills a video, trouble is there are soo many great riders and styles which are........well pure popcorn poetry that choosing to hit the slow mo botton on a little rock garden well....you get me!!!

Great video! If you ever get the chance to ride with Matt do it. You'll learn so much, and be in awe the whole time. The guy just floats over everything. Above all that he's super humble and awesome at giving advice.

Great video again Matt. maybe you can pick a song next time with less "2012 dubstep sounds". you know what I mean? yoooiiii.
Seven lions would be great one day *-*

There is quite the abundance of slo-mo shots in this edit, but I must say I would rather watch a downhill edit with a lot of slo-mo than some slo-mo enduro edit. I don't want to watch your lower lip bounce up and down out in front of your open face helmet as you ride across a trail comparable to a cheese grater at mach-12. Big Grin

The slowest of mo's! Pretty good video - sun peaks is great.

Love Sun Peaks, such nice trails - great soil and no queues, plus the lifties are great fun
  • 1 0
Agree, Sun Peaks is absolutely awesome and beautiful. Only downside was that riding on my own, really meant riding on my own....

I feel like when the opening scene talks about how downhill has gotten faster you shouldn't have the rest of the video shown in slowmo. Well done video, but could use more raw speed shots.
  • 3 2
damn fine video. even was digging the wub wub music and gratuitous slo-mo. but plexus on the titles? what is this, the art of flight? just kidding, but not really...
  • 3 0
That landing at 2:54.- inches from carnage! Wow.
  • 2 0
slow mo made this vid way to boring
  • 4 3
They have to shoot in slow mo ... at regular shutter speeds he's just too dam fast.
  • 3 2
But they shot in regular mo and I could still see him?
  • 2 1
@makripper: We don't all have lazer eyes bro.
  • 1 2
@cmcrawfo: maybe you need to laser your eyes?
