Matt Jones & Diego Caverzasi Injured, Tom Isted Competing - Crankworx Rotorua 2019

Mar 22, 2019
by Sarah Moore

Matt Jones cased the flat drop on the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle course and landed on his head, breaking his helmet. He's choosing not to compete in tomorrow's Slopestyle event and Tom Isted will be competing in his place.

Diego Caverzasi is also out with a shoulder injury.

Gutted for Matt. He seemed really excited about that helmet!

Absolutely gutted for Matt Jones, was looking forward to him riding. Seems like a wise choice not to compete, the risk of another blow to the head the next day just isn't worth taking.

Too bad he didnt have a wavecel helmet. Would've been 48 times better off.

Diego should have given his spot to an alternate. Not very sportsman like ????????

@ian1086: I wonder if he dropped it before riding

@stevesmith-ss: yeah probably why he crashed

The important thing is he opted not to compete, faced with potential brain injury. He deserves all sorts of credit for this. So do his sponsors for supporting him in this decision

Where is there a flat drop? The on/off? Doesn’t that have to lip? Either I was hoping to see Matty compete. Bummer
