Matt Stuttard, Amy Morrison & Dan Wolfe's Custom Polygon Race Bikes for the Trophy of Nations

We've teamed up with the Polygon Enduro Racing Crew and created some custom-painted bikes for the Trophy of Nations Race in Finale Ligure, Italy. Matt Stuttard will be representing the #1 for Great Britain. Amy Morrison is competing with #1 for team USA. Dan Wolfe is currently a reserve for Team Ireland.

It's brilliant to be back in Finale, always a great season-ender. Even better this time around with myself and the team with fully custom Nation Bikes, yes mine is the best! The last time I was at the Trophy of Nations it was so much fun and the layout was different to what we're used to so we're looking forward racing the Nations race again and hopefully being on the podium—Matt Stuttard

Finale Ligure is always a good time but it's extra special to be here on Team USA. Having the custom American flag painted bike is really special and makes the whole experience that much more memorable. The team aspect is different but I think it will bring the best out of all of us on the team—Amy Morrison

Always a treat coming back to Finale Ligure especially at the end of the year. Stoked to get my first ever custom frame! Massive thank you to Polygon Bikes on getting it done. It's absolutely beautiful, yes, mine is the best! Unfortunately I'm a reserve rider for Team Ireland so I may not be lining up this Sunday with my fellow countrymen. Fortunately, I am set to line up this Saturday for the Industry of Nations with some rapid riders, our Mechanic Josh and Ross. Looking forward to seeing what these stages have to offer. We have entered an Industry Team to represent Polygon on Saturday, unfortunately Diego, our Team Support fell off his bike last week and broke his hand so we had to rush around to find a fill-in. If Dan Wolfe doesn't make it with the Irish Team, he will compete with our Industry Team alongside our Mechanic, Josh Morris and fill-in, Ross Ennis

Would you mind sending a link to the post about the bikes coming out because I used to have a polygon cascade 3 as my first mtb and now have an xtrada 7 with various upgrades and am hoping to get a t7/t8 in march.

Stuttard and Wolfe both appear to be running +1° anglesets. I know these are prototypes (or more accurately pre-production?), but still a little surprising.

I'm a fan of the Stumpy Evo (Scor too) headset angle options built-in — I run anglesets and they can sometimes be a pain to align perfectly.

Not a big fan of the bushings used in the linkage. Hopefully they start releasing bikes with industry standard bearings at all the pivot locations. Especially now that they seem to be adding even more pivots to the same design

Oh man. I bought an n7 and wore out the rear linkage bushings on the first 2 months. Tried to order more, bikes online didn't have them for almost 2 months, then charged me for a set and sent the wrong ones. It took 3 months to get a set of bushings from them. I was passed around to several different customer service reps in this time, none of whom were able to help. In the same time I contacted Igus and had bushings custom made from a superior material. They arrived from Germany more quickly than bikes online could get me bushings. The bike was fun overall, less being a pretty tough climber. I would consider buying a polygon in the future if they have a different retailer than bikesonline.com line. My experience with bikesonline.com was so poor that I sold the frame just so I would never have to deal with bikes online again

Is there any reason to mount the shock in this orientation instead of having the reservoir mounted on the downtube side?

ideally you want the shock mounted the other way so the linkage drives the damper body

@kokofosho: I agree, but... In this case mounting the trunnion end of the shock to the swingarm is actually a very clever move. Given that the trunnion mount end is naturally stiffer and more prone to sideloading issues, it actually makes sense to mount the shock this way round. The other way round would mount the trunnion mount solidly to the front triangle and then the eyelet end solidly to the "yoke" (its not really a yoke, but will have similar problems) meaning there is no were for sideloads to go other than into the shock body. The way they have done it puts both problematic mounts at the same end, meaning the system is more able to flex a little when sideloads are introduced.

@gabriel-mission9: The rear of the frame looks quite interesting... chainstays are one solid piece from the pivot (next to the axle) to the trunnion mount, with a bolted-on bridge, so the whole assembly should be plenty stiff for lateral loads... In this case I think two other easy answers are that the reservoir would probably run into the water bottles, and the climb switch is much easier to access facing up? haha

@rbasoalto: I see it differently. With the shock bolted directly to the seat stays, this is about as bad a design as it's possible to have in terms of isolating the shock from flex induced sideloading. It would be much better to bolt the shock to a linkage than directly to any of the stays, if the aim is to avoid lateral loads transmitting through to the shock.

Mg Gf had a Polygon. She lost a frame bolt and they wanted 120$ USD and a 6 week lead time to get her another. Dont buy one unless you have friends in a machine shop...
