Matt Stuttard & Brady Stone Sign With New EWS Team Polygon Factory Racing

Feb 16, 2022
by Alicia Leggett
Polygon Factory Racing has entered the EWS scene, signing Matt Stuttard and young gun Brady Stone. Dan Wolfe, who has represented Polygon for several years, will step up to the role of team manager for the new factory outfit while continuing on as a racer.

Matt Stuttard announced in December that he would no longer be riding for Privateer Bikes, which he helped create when his then-sponsor Hunt Wheels' parent company, The Rider Firm, decided it wanted to make a bike. Stuttard saw the project through from some early sketches all the way to EWS top-20s. Now, he's decided it is time to take his racing career to the next level with a brand-new, official EWS team.

bigquotesSuper excited to be joining @polygonfactoryracing / @polygonbikes & working with some well established brands, alongside @thebigbad_wolfe & @bradystone13. It’s a huge step forward for me in my career & I'm excited to see what we can achieve. We’ve already been working on some new things & I’m really looking forward to a big year in 2022. (It’s been blooming hard keeping this one quiet for so long)!!! Keep an eye out for some bike updates.Matt Stuttard

Brady Stone is a 21-year-old ripper based on New Zealand's South Island. In 2019, he ranked 2nd in the EWS U21 overall. In 2020, he took 1st in the EWS U21 global ranking. Last season, his first year in the big league, he finished the season ranked 30th. If his current trajectory is anything to judge by, the young rider is on an upward path.

It also appears that Polygon has a new enduro bike in the works, so stay tuned for more developments as this young team finds its feet.

bigquotesLETS GOOOO @polygonfactoryracing. I’ve been working with @polygonbikes on this for a long time, it brings me immense pride to introduce Polygon Bikes new factory team. Proud to have @bradystone13 & @mattstuttard46 as teammates going forward. It’s crazy to be able to call them teammates. Lots of new uncharted territory for me personally as I’ll be stepping up as team manager as well. Keep your eyes peeled as there’s more to come soon. We’ve been working on a brand new Enduro bike, all I can say is [mindblown emoji].Dan Wolfe

I hope these guys realize they are also sponsored by Kenda. They will not even slightly be able to compete. Oh I hope they have find some Maxxis tires to sharpie out. Yes that is sarcasm.

It would be super cool if Polygon used the 6 bar linkage from their e-bikes for their new N9 enduro bike.

@rtiEDGE until it came time to maintain it - aarrgghh, why so many moving parts
  • 2 0
Is that really necessary on a normal bike? It's designed around the constraints of the motor.

I know it's different, but isn't the Specialized Enduro a 6 link? If Polygon could come out with a legit 6 link Enduro bike for $3500, that would be awesome. I owned a Siskiu T8 before owning my current Ripmo v2, and there are honestly more than a few things I like as much/better about the Polygon...

@rtiEDGE: It isn't, it's just a four bar FSR with a more complicated shock linkage. The extra links have no significant effect on anything but the leverage curve, and based on how little that differs from other modern Horst link bikes, they're also apparently unnecessary.

@rtiEDGE: the new Yeti 160E is also a six link bike. Wonder if Yeti will change the design on the SB150 and 130 at some point.

Ok, after Matt posted some videos of him riding a camouflaged bike, I don't think the new bike will use the faux-6-bar found on Bromo e-bike. The resolution is not high enough, but at least there is no elevated chainstays like in Bromo. The area above the bottom bracket is not that "busy" either.

My guess is it is basically a longer travel, beefier version of that new Siskiu T. Room for bottle cage on the inside of main triangle, and also most likely a revamped suspension kinematics.

@rifu: that makes sense. The Siskiu T’s linkage driven single pivot works tremendously downhill, and is very supple. I would have liked to see a new oddball suspension, in line with an Xquarone-like update. Oh well

@rtiEDGE: ok, I was wrong. Check this out.

Looks like there is a short link above the bottom bracket, on the lower part of the seat tube. That short link connects the chainstay to the front triangle (so it is no longer a single pivot bike). That same short link also has an upper pivot point. I still can't figure out where the upper pivot point connects to. A shorter linkage tucked behind the middle part of the seattube? Upper linkage that drive the rear shock by a thru-the-seattube-linkage?

Can't wait to see it in clarity. Got an insider info that, barring major events, the new bike will be announced on March.

I stayed at an air B and B near nelson in New Zealand and the previous owners were Brady stones parents, apparently he and his whole family were fitness freaks who rode walked etc. at the back of the house is one of the best tracks in New Zealand- it’s no wonder he is so good now. Respect

Um cool kit but no bike shots?

It says in the article. They're going to re-release their enduro bike. Their previous iteration wasn't particularly inspired so it's not surprising. I wasn't really interested in their frame design until their recent re-release of their trail bikes. So hopefully they do the same thing, modernizing their "N" series, enduro line. And maybe even try a DH rig again.

But yeah, at first I was like what the hell are they gonna race on... that T8 frame? Will be cool to see what they do for the N re-release. And glad they are staying in racing and supporting teams after losing the UR contract.

 WEEEHOOOOO! Yeah team!
  • 2 2
why are all these new racing teams "factory teams"?
  • 15 0
I’ve always understood it to be a team that is directly supported by and involving the bike brand, as opposed to a basic sponsorship deal/ supply of frames.
  • 19 0
Because when they aren’t racing they’re working in the factories
  • 6 0
@joshdodd: yep, not a third-party team/management company running it, but rather full support paid from marketing budgets at the factory.
