Descent-Gear Unclipped - Race Preview

Aug 14, 2009
by Si Paton
Moelfre is the home course of the Athertons, designed by Dan Atherton and ragged silly by all three riders. Not one tree or root insight, this open Welsh hill side is like riding a huge wave. Just hold tight and go as fast as you dare...

The Descent-Gear Unclipped Downhill Race takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 11th, 12th and 13th of September 2009 and is already looking like it be a stormer.

Trees?

Parking and spectating is free, as is Camping!

With practice all day Saturday, you will get more practice runs than your arms and legs can handle. Then add two timed runs on Sunday afternoon after a morning's practice means you will know the track like the back of your hand guaranteed.

Off the brakes

As a bonus, Mike Marsden from Borderline Events who is running the show is putting on an additional day of practice on the Friday for an extra £20.00. The cost for racing on Saturday and Sunday is £55.00

The event is a British Cycling Category E event with points for each category if you have a full BC racing license down to 15th place. That means if you get top 15 you will get one point which will be enough to get you into the NPS in 2010.

Forgot to mention the rocks!

No doubt we will get some loons together to throw off the kicker like we did last time. Want the proof? Check these idiots out:

Interested?
Moelfre Hall is just West of Oswestry near Shrewsbury.

This race won't feel like a World Cup. The main emphasis will be about riding your bike down a big hill and all level of riders are welcome. Don't worry, you can race in SPDs, though I'll definitely be on flats.

We will ensure there is a nice race report and some video clips just after the race here on Pinkbike.com.

In memory of Harry Patch.
Mr Patch, who was born in 1898 in Combe Down, near Bath, died on 25 July 2009 at Fletcher House care home in Wells, Somerset, South West England.
Harry Patch was the oldest man in Europe when he died aged 111, he was the last surviving soldier to have fought in the trenches during the Great War. "His prime message is that we should settle disputes by negotiation and compromise, not by war."

it's just a fact of life in britain. we get ripped off for everything. it's mostly because of all the official behind the scenes stuff that you have to pay for. tonnes of paperwork and insurance and health and saftey bollocks. you just can't have a bunch of people riding down a hill without paying lots of people in suits for the priviledge.

Remember in Dirt 5 (i think it was that one) when buddy compresses in that ditch and goes head first, wide open into that fence. One of the worst crashes i've seen. Sketchy.
  • 2 0
