I know its timed training but thats pretty impressive from Bruni on his return.
  • 23 5
Probably the only time that really has meaning on the sheet.
  • 45 0
 Yeah brendog!
  • 18 0
I think we are going to see a brendog win soon enough! He is becoming one of the most experienced wc riders, and this is a track that requires experience. being the longest standing track on the circuit currently.

Lets hope its this weekend (:

@Aled-DHI: Brendog on the podium would probably be the best moment of the year I think.
  • 5 0
@Kiwi19: Other than Brunis first WC win i'd agree!
  • 1 3
 @Aled-DHI: That has already happened...
  • 3 0
@Aled-DHI: Huge fan of Brendog, but unfortunately people have been saying that he is about to win for at least 6-7 years now. Great to see him back on form though, I remember how rad he was in 2010 when Sam injured himself and Brendog stepped it up massively.
  • 1 0
@Davichin: Exactly... and that was this year
  • 26 0
Gwin posted the fastest first split from a quick glance at the full result sheet.
  • 15 3
Fastest at the speed trap too

 Gwin never pins in practice...
  • 21 1
Indeed,,, mx racing background and current level of competition you would have to be crazy to lay your cards on the table. We have entered the chess match phase of DH racing finally.
  • 11 3
Is it just me, or does anyone else see these results posts and think "oh, I wonder how Steve Smith did" only to be reminded yet again. Still having difficulty getting used to it.
  • 11 0
 Nice to see Neko back!
  • 9 0

  • 8 1
 We're talking about practice.
  • 6 0
Nik-Nasty-Nestoroff, you can find the time come race day!!!
  • 5 3
Only 13 women? I know Amanda Batty is there but had an OTB today and thus wouldn't have a completed timed training run result and is being evalutated for a concussion tommorow, but still... that's a pretty shallow women's pro field.
  • 2 0
I think only the top X riders are allowed in time training.
  • 1 0
24 women on the start list. Only one junior, so don't expect it to get deeper any time soon either.
  • 12 14
The women need to start earning equal payouts as the men in all races. Maybe we will see larger field. They work just as hard and risk just as much as the men, that should be reflected in the prize money.
  • 11 0
Top 20 ranked plate holders do timed training. I'm at 28, so no TT for me. We're a go for qualifiers tomorrow, however. ????
  • 3 0
 @ambatt: go get it!
  • 3 1
@dv8416: With that logic, should the juniors have equal payouts as well? I'm all for a more competitive women's field, but sponsorship is what pays the bills, not prize payouts.
  • 4 3

Considering that Anne Caroline Chausson, while still a junior, was posting times faster than the pro women's field...yes...yes juniors should be paid equally for world cup and world championship races. And yes the pro women should receive the same podium pay days as the pro men. Some venues have learned that lesson. Many however have not.
  • 3 1
@deeeight: I don't think that juniors should be paid out as much as pros in the open class, regardless of what ACC/other riders have done. If you want to compete for more money, you should have to enter a more competitive class.
How many places down are men's and women's fields paid out?
  • 5 3
@deeeight: Where's all this extra money coming from? Going off the Lenzerheide results......If it was 1 open race with no classes, and only the top 100 riders got prize money(not realistic by any account) not a single female would get paid, not even Miss Atherton. Fact is, the women are simply not as quick and fans only go there to see the pro's ride faster than they can ever imagine.

I'm not agreeing with above by the way, I think the current situation is very fair. The top pro men get more than pro women and juniors, because they're much quicker, bring more fans and there is a boat load more competition in that class.
  • 3 2
If we accept that there is a physical limitation (i would argue that there is also a myriad of sociological reasons i.e smaller total participation) then doesn't it seem wildly unfair to base the prize money solely on the slower pace of the women's field?

Womens races don't draw as much attention and therefore sponsors aren't interested. Is that not then a situation where governing bodies should be stepping in and saying that we should be aiming for parity in pay and prize money?
  • 1 0
@marko369: facts are facts. I would imagine the same is for sponsorship as well. Payed less to race Sunday because there are less women out buying bikes Monday.
  • 1 0
But isn't the point of sponsorship specifically to increase the number of any given group of people buying bikes?
  • 2 0

You need to research who's buying more bikes better. Women are the most important segment to the bike industry today.
  • 1 1

I'm all for there being more women in our sport but according to the Pinkbike poll on my home screen, there is/was 952 male vs 33 female so I'm not entirely sure your point is factual?
  • 2 0

pinkbike polls are meaningless since this site, contrary to what some thing, is NOT the center of the bicycle universe. If you went by polls here, then fat bikes and plus bikes shouldn't possibly be selling in the numbers and dollars that they do, nor should women's bikes, nor 650B anything, nor 29er, etc.
  • 1 0

Very good point
