Calgary Season Capper Trail Day on Moose mountain and Toonie race on Toothless
Clear your calendars for October 4-5th for a weekend dedicated to bikes, good times, and better trails out at Moose mountain. The premier event of the weekend will be the trail day on Sunday the 5th. Our last trail day saw over 60 people out and brought heaps of flow and sustainability to our mountain. In one afternoon, it was a smack down of buffness and berms, to trails like JG on the rocks, SLF and Toothless. Sustainability issues were resolved on the likes of Toothless and a new shuttle situation initiated in the form of "hot laps". Thanks to all who gave back and made it out, we challenge all you ripper's of Moose to help make this, the best trail day yet.
On the agenda for this trail day include; buffing from the bottom up on Jg on the rocks, SLF, toothless, and some much needed maintenance assistance to the dedicated builders of Race of Spades. Meet @ Ing's mine parking lot for 10:30 am on Sunday October the 5th! Bring whatever tools you and your neighbors have(shovels, rakes, picks, Pulaski's, gloves), and a trail day game plan will be in place. Do it
Also meeting at the same time and the same place, will be a much needed man power initiative by an XC group of riders, wanting to build an uphill single-track to the trailhead of Moosepackers. XC Riders have been enduring the dust infested journey up Moose road, to access the classic tasty treats of Moosepackers, long enough. Any volunteers inclined to help with this initiative are more than encouraged to get involved and come out on the 5th.
Saturday October 4th, will play host to a fun filled toonie race on Toothless, sponsored by Team Pilsner. This will be a 2 stage race, with the time still running after you have finished your run, until you finish(shotgun/chug) your bevy. One choice beverage will be provided for those of age and other carbonated treats for those not of age. It is recommended that you ride the trail previous to signing up for the race. Toothless is one of the more technically demanding, steep and tightest trails on the mountain. The lower portion of this gem was re-routed during the last trail day and requires some traffic and exposure... thus this all about fun and community event.
Registration will begin in the Ing's mine parking lot at 10 Am on Saturday. A BBQ will follow at the scenic, fire worthy, 2km mark on Moose mountain road(the lookout point on the left and adjacent to the Sulphur springs trail crossing). Barbecues, condiments, some beverages, some hotdogs/burgers will be provided.
