For the XC/All mountain citizenry - a group ride will commence shortly after noon headed up by the visionary of Pneuma, including a casual but epic tour de moose! It's all downhill for the freeride faction with laps a plenty and record breaking flow scales for all. A big thanks to Ridley's cycle for sponsoring and catering the post ride BBQ with burgers set to begin flipping around 4:30 ish. Feel free to stick around for the evening, enjoy a beverage and chill with like minded yokels or continue riding with your new found riding buddies, after some eats. MMBTS will be selling memberships and T-shirts at the BBQ. There are talks of a potential camp out in the McLean Creek area but we are still waiting on details regarding logistics for this. If you're down for an overnighter, show up prepped up, and we should have more info about camping on the Saturday.

The premier and foremost event of the weekend is the trail day for Sunday. Resolve to evolve our trails with MMBTS and come on out to Ing's mine parking lot for 11 am on Sunday June 14th. We had 80 volunteers at the May 9th trail day and we are challenging all you riders to help us get this number up to 100 for this trail day. "A little less talk and a lot more action" is what our trails need. Check out the following vid produced by Tobi from RUrban Lens of the last trail day!

With a sense of community comes a sense of ownership of our trails and it is in this realm that MMBTS wants to shine. We can't shine without you! Many trails are on the hit list - but we are prioritizing Pneuma and the trails that were still snow covered(JG and ROS) on the May 9th buff fest! So, make a difference in the trails you ride, help bring that shine, and come on out for 11am @ Ing's mine p-lot and a game day plan of attack will be in place. Bring whatever tools you have!

We plan to grow the flow until 4ish and then celebrate the day back at the 2km locale with a bbq catered by the fine folks at Calgary Cycle.

MMBTS was formed by a bunch of riders/builders pickin' up a storm, hammering hard, pounding laps and talkin' trails. So you can be sure despite all the meetings and business stuff we would rather be shredding or building than pushing paper and being all PC. So giddyup and team up with MMBTS and help harmonize all the efforts and work into our trails where they belong.

Come on out and get involved!

Here's a look back at our May 9th clean up and what we were able to accomplish as a united group:

Our first trail day of the season started off as a dark and desolate morning. I was driving out to Moose Mountain for the Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society's (MMBTS) first ever trail day as an official organization. All the months of hard work of the MMBTS volunteers was to finally touch down on our trails this very morning. The skies were dark, our trails mostly still covered in snow and the threat of some major precipitation seemed apparent. Yet, I had this underlying calmness, this deep know, that somehow today would go down in Alberta biking history as the most successful trail day to date.

All the surrounding adversity could not budge the scales that are weighed down by the enthusiasm and dedication of our members, builders, executive and community. The call went out and the people answered. The flow did Grow! 80 plus karma filled riders showed up to enhance our trail network.

In one afternoon, a community with direction was able to accomplish what would have taken months in years past. As the remnants of winter were still everywhere though, we had to selectively pick our battles:

Pneuma, the new uphill single-track, was given new breath in the form of clearing and groundwork on its lower extension from Sulphur Springs to the bottom of Moose mountain road. Expect to see a push for completion on this one for future trail days!

T-dub got more cut than a groom on Stag night! Side-hill bench cut, that is...for its alternate and sustainable non-gully option. This line is pushed through and ready to roll. If you still want to rock the gully it is all yours. The "Tib-Fib" line went to finishing school and is now looking for you to deliver its fat tire stamped diploma.

SLF got fluffed and its senior seasoned builders were able to lead a motivated crew to re-route an alternate to its infamous rock drop. Lower segments of SLF were also on the hit list, be sure to dial in, tune in and join in on the future developments on this line.

Toothless took one big trip to the dentist! Crews picked in 8 amazing and very hard to build water bars on its white-knuckle steeps. The dentist also prescribed a short flowy re-route for an upper problematic area and some berm hygiene enhancement VIA the bottom up crew.

The Cinderella story of the day goes to the dog with the name Billy! Billy Dog, the former
Rhubarb, that has been resurrected and brought back to life by the Race Of Spades crew, saw an ambush of surgeons to bring this facelift to our community. The new look was enhanced from both the top and the bottom and the amount of progress in one afternoon... would jolt any seasoned digger into a google eyed mute who had been hypnotized to look for corners but had been stuck in a round room. You get the picture!

But People, let's face it, here at MMBTS we are greedy, we are not satisfied, we want this momentum to grow, we want our trails to bring bigger badder grins to you - our riders. For this your contribution is required. We are oh so thankful for your support, for showing up on May 9th, for signing up to MMBTS, so let's keep growing the flow and pushing the movement. Ensure to clear your calenders for the June 13-14th weekend and come on out to our next trail day and riding party. Trail day to commence at 11 am at Ing's mine p-lot on the 14th and the Riding party to start at noon on the 13th at the 2km locale. Details to follow in the next day or so.

MMBTS would like to send a biggie sized thanks to Bow Cycle for sponsoring the post trail day BBQ, a massive high five to Ridley's Cycle for funds to help provide our volunteer's with the proper tools and a cheers to Team Pilsner for providing some beverages to our hard working community. Any other shops or business in the area that wish to get involved and join in feel free to send MMBTS an email @ info@mmbts.com!

Step up to the challenge - Join the movement and find your flow!

I'm bailing. The wife is forcing me to go ride my bike in Whistler next week.

I promise to have that jump I started on ROS done for Saturday, though. Can I be forgiven?

half tons and pilsner=trail day in alberta. nice to see the moose evolving to more than just a few xc trails.
  • 0 1
Indeed. But still (my two cents says) I think an equal distribution of trail types ought to be done, that way we - mountain bikers - are of one voice. Freeride trails shouldn't overtake the XC trails. XC is from whence we all evolved.

That said...build it rad.

Yo Obee! Sadly, most of the Newf army are on their annual stash fest roadtrip.
  • 0 0
Most, but not all. And, get this, a 'Jamaican Newfie' might even show up. The latter are by far the very worst kind of Newfie of them all. [Wink.]

Pin it and see what happens,

Sucks that we are gonna miss it, poor planning on our behalf. There'll be plenty more trail days that we'll get in on. Meanwhile, we are sending our cook.
