Artilect uses a unique merino technology that claims to be better than traditional merino spinning methods in just about every way because the wool isn't compressed down as much through the tight twisting. I can confirm that the fabrics are at least really, really soft, and the Nuyarn technology makes sense in that the fabric does seem to be loftier than traditional merino and less prone to holes in the thinner layers.

 @Afterschoolsports: 1990s me desperately wants this. 2020's me is pretty keen too!

Imagine telling your 1990's self about modern trail bikes.. "oh year, it's 150mm back and front, never drops a chain, doesn't really get punctures, doesn't try to volley you out the front door if you lose attention for a microsecond"

 Geezuz, I hope none of the people walking past Captain America's Mountain Bike suffered seizures?

Probably not though, cuz the Cali Government would have had them put up a warning sign of some sortSmile

 Not sure how that top cap from Chile ties into the whole theme though

 @Tmackstab: Dont be a jerk, you know that's Captain America's shield... also is that bike enormous or is Chris Evans about 6 feet shorter than I thought he was?

 Anyone find the irony in the uncle sam paintjob on the asian-made frame? Could've at least used a GG frame or something domestic if they wanted to go full blown "america f-yeah."

 See the scuffs on the pedal? I watched some dude straight up knock the bike over onto concrete lol

 Nice of Kogel to use some wonderful Union Jack themed, UK made Hope parts on their USA bike… who said the ‘special relationship’ was over?!

 DT Swiss you folks RULE. That is a super super great thing to do. Both hooking up your existing customers and getting donations out where needed. I will be getting some hubs to build up some freshies and they will be yours.
  • 3 0
 I agree. Good offer and donation in great destinations. When to get the same offer in Europe?
  • 4 0
 Is ratchet LN just the old version of the star ratchet?
  • 2 0
 Really great from DT Swiss.
  • 3 0
 I just upgrade my DT 350 with 54 tooth and just f*ckin* love it.
  • 2 0
 @DC1988: it's the version for 3pawl conversion (370 hubs)
  • 1 0
 @DC1988: they are technically different but not seeing any real difference
www.dtswiss.com/en/wheels/wheels-technology/ratchet-technologies-overview
  • 8 0
 @mfoga: the freehub seal is different. Ratchet LN has a little wiper on the freehub, the older star ratchets had the freehub seal pressed to the hub body.
Before the LN upgrade, you could still put 240/350 internals into a 370 but you lost the freehub seal.
  • 1 1
 So now that a 370 takes a star ratchet why would anyone get a 350?
  • 3 0
 @dglass: 350 has 36t ratchet now and 370 is oem I think.
  • 2 0
 @mfoga: So could just upgrade the stars then?
  • 2 0
 @mfoga:
So the LN is basically the old style with two moving ratchets which look easier to replace as they aren't screwed in. Perhaps also more reliable given what I've heard about EXP.
  • 2 0
 Great guys and girls. Top notch cs
  • 2 0
 @mfoga: per the Rocky catalogue for 2022 the 370 is now star ratchet.
  • 31 0
 Awful lot of good old British cranks and brakes for a USA build on that Kogel
  • 11 1
 Well with how much it costs to buy American made brake callipers you can't blame them
  • 6 0
 Hopefully the next Pinkbike Thought Experiment will be bike builds using as many parts made in a particular country as possible. Any ties between competing parts go to the part with the most obnoxious anno or paint that resembles that nation’s flag.
  • 21 1
 Fox lowers should be in red not orange
  • 3 0
 Agreed Fork and spring should have been with the theme
  • 15 1
 Cnc'd parts are hilarious. You can build a stronger, lighter, cheaper stem with near net forging but nobody will buy them because they don't look cool. One of the reasons people are riding around on 35lb $10,000 trail bikes.
  • 2 0
 I would think that buying a CNC mill/lathe would be better for revenue generation than buying the equipment needed to forge specific parts to machine them to spec anyway. I could see it if the production numbers were high enough like OE stems for instance with different brands logo stamped on.
  • 10 0
 that Escapod camper STARTS AT $20,000. Take a look at what traditional bumper pulls are available for that price:

www.rvtrader.com/Travel-Trailer/rvs-for-sale?type=Travel%20Trailer%7C198073&price=*%3A20000&sort=price%3Adesc&modelkeyword=1

My mom wants a Sprinter camper and is willing to spend $120k on it, and she'd be lucky to find a good one at that price. Its insane. I'm trying to tell her that she can get a bus sized rear pusher for $50k, and it would take 10 years of driving 5,000 mils a year to make up the cost difference with the worse mileage, and you have an apartment on wheels instead of a van.
  • 1 0
 I've looked at these campers multiple times from multiple companies and I'm always amazed at what they are asking for. I think the folks that buy these are not necessarily buying them as a practical alternative to traditional campers or even motels more so for the novelty factor. Seriously, for you to make your money back you'd be having to use it all the time.
  • 3 0
 Also sweet baby jesus! I clicked that rvtrader link and you can get a full on house on wheels for 20K!
  • 10 0
 I'll sell your mom my bus sized rear pusher for $49k.
  • 2 0
 @KnobbyDrifter: Oh $hit this made me laugh a lot.
  • 3 4
 @tbubier:
That’s all fine and dandy until you realize you need a 90k dollar truck to pull it reliably. Either way it’s insanely expensive
  • 3 0
 @Solorider13: no you don't. My $10k suburban can pull 11,000 pounds
  • 10 0
 A helmet that texts your buddies when you biff it? Wonder if it can just submit a video directly to 'Friday Fails' as well?
  • 1 0
 @PACNW-MTB:
You are onto something here... built in g force gauge so when it picks up a user set force...auto upload.
  • 6 0
 How many people stop and salute that bicycle walking by? Kogel should have an hourly fireworks display and those weirdo little cheerleading girls on loop singing that song that's like, "WHEN FREEDOM CALLS! PICK UP THE PHONE!" with just random bald eagle screeching sounds thrown in for effect.

 That shot with the whiskey handlebar- holy smokes, what an ugly headtube setup. The difference in tube width, so many spacers, then a flat handlebar. I mean, the bar may be top notch, but that setup is so far from flattering or inviting.
  • 3 0
 What is going on with that Calfee's headtube? Is that where their SWATbox is? Or a hidden motor? A steering damper? An integrated coffee bean grinder? Emergency toilet paper dispenser?
  • 1 0
 I could be wrong (and often am) but I think that’s a bike they’ve repaired.
  • 4 0
 I want to see how DT Swiss takes out the ratchet housing. It can be really stuck- someone take a video please!

 The USA bike lacks a mullet and that makes me very sad.

 Yoshimura...making a modular dual crown and single crown stem?!
  • 2 0
 The original prototype looked best
  • 2 0
 If I ever see one, I will pick it up. I’ve been really impressed with their motorcycle products.
  • 5 0
 @hit-n-run Has been making something very similar for a while, and he sells the upper and lower parts separately so you could use your own DM stem on any single crown. And honestly I think I like the @hit-n-run design better than the yoshi design (and as a sportbike rider I'm pretty much a yoshimura fanboy).
  • 2 0
 @robw515: that’s a really cool product. Thanks for letting me know about it. I will have to buy one sometime, I have lots of DM stems doing nothing.
  • 1 0

 Every biker will sooner or later realize that DT Swiss hubs are the way to go. Some gotta learn the hard way... (myself, bought some other hubs than DT :-)
  • 2 0
 Is the DT Swiss upgrade applicable to all of their hubs? I have a 370 on my 19 altitude C70, wondering if theyll upgrade it if I bring it.
