MountainSmith Dog Packs.

Hensley is a dog and eats me out of house and home, micro chipping, vets bills, insurance all adds up. Now it's payback time for this mongrel. What better way for man's best friend to earn his keep than to carry all your trail spares and tools when out on a ride?

To get your mutt working for his supper, click on here...

Mountainsmith was born in 1978 in the Front Range of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Their products include high-level performance backpacks, lumbar packs, travel storage, camera bags and luggage.

Hensley's been running his backpack since Father Christmas gave it to him back in December (He still believes in him).. and it's still going strong. The big test came the other week at the Halo Moelfre BDS round, where he fell out of the Kawasaki Mule (Think quad bike/pickup) going down the hill on the gravel fire road.
Flat out the side door he went, rolling down the road I thought he was dead. Up he jumped, caught up with me and hopped back in. Did his MountainSmith backpack save him? Maybe. Is it still in prime condition? Yes, except for a bit of dirt..

•Independently adjustable fleece lined chest harness
•Two zippered pockets with rain flaps
•Single haul handle on the top of the pack
•Compression straps
•D-ring attachment point for leashes
•Mesh pocket on the top for leash stash
•Reflective trim
•Internal valuables pocket
•Available in sizes Small, Medium, and Large

I don't load him down too much, all I throw in there is a mini pump, spare tube, multi tool and some tyre levers. May I recommend that you don't be leaving your wallet, cell/mobile phone in there. Like your dog, Hensley can't resist a river, stream or a lake mid ride!

but i have a cat. maybe i could drag my cat behind me on the trails, if my tires were laced with catnip. she might like the extra 4 pounds of tools on her back. you never know.

Actually it is an awesome idea i have one for my dog (different company). It also has the handle on top for briefcase mode and it had a tow hook and loop. Good for hiking or if you want to take your dog around the park and don't feel like having him/her off leash. The nice thing about that is it dose not put any strain on the dogs neck and it allows the dog to pull with the shoulders. Dogs like having it to once they get used to it it gives them a job to do they tend to like that.

the dog itself and the idea are just pure awesomeness. it's really good that there are people who take their dogs with them on trips or just walks up the mountain or park. For instance my neighbor she leaves her dog inside all day, and only gets her out to take a piss and a short walk. i feel sorry for that dog. But I'm really glad about this one!! Awesome

"May I recommend that you don't be leaving your wallet, cell/mobile phone in there"....priceless info, LOL....Make Hensley carry his own food and water too, that's what ppl do when they bring their dog hiking. I wish I had a dog Frown

nice pack! I have a 2 piece backpack harness (leerburg.com/754.htm) and overall I am not satisfied with it - at the speeds she ends up running at, the pack falls off her back onto one side or the other, and ends up limited her mobility.

this pack seems to have some more restraints included to keep the pack on the back; have you had any problems with that?

This is great! My dog loves hers, I think it gives her a sense of purpose on the trail, she leaves the critters alone and focuses on the walk/ride so much better. Be careful about loading your pooch up too much, I have heard about 10% of the dog's body weight is a good number. Any more than that, you might start running (literally) into some issues (hip dysplasia, etc).

I've gotta get one of these. My dog's always finding short cuts down the trails which makes me rider faster to try and beat her down to the bottom!! Love riding with my dog. :-) Happy Days!

What size is the pack tested in this article? Also, do the different sizes mean cargo size or harness? Nice write up!

I've owned one of these for my dog for about 3 years now, they are awesome. We live in Jasper, Alberta so it's held up on numerous backcountry overnight trips, the dog gets used to it in no time at all!
