Always Above Us: In 1999, on an expedition in Tibet, alpine climbers Conrad Anker and Kris Erickson lost their good friend and exploration companion, Alex Lowe, to an avalanche that narrowly missed Conrad himself. To preserve Alex's honour, Conrad and Kris establish and send the Nutcracker, a new ice climb route in Hyalite Canyon, Montana.

Influencer: As part of her research, Dr. Elizabeth Burr, MD, PhD Psych., studies an aspiring social media star’s attempts to achieve online fame.

Influencer = every marketing douche in Vancouver shared office spaces. Worst buzz term ever, & they typically contribute nothing to society.

Thanks for the appropriate ridicule; I truly appreciated that work.

@Chingus-Dude: isn’t that what half of the “adult” population do nowadays? Then claim. They’re too busy to do anything else...

Can't believe that Gwinn was that fast on his demo, and to think that when he moved to specialized was when he stopped dominating the world cup.
  • 6 6

I had to giggle the other day at some commenters complaining about Pilgrim riding past a few pedestrians on a sidewalk (www.pinkbike.com/news/sam-pilgrim-barcelona-street-riding-best-destinations-spots-2018.html). Even more so after seeing the ridiculousness of Thovex high-speed slaloming those tourists on the rope tow.

Yeah, i though this was such a dickhead move

Obidog: terrible skier, bit of a twat
  • 29 10
@stefanfresh: You guys are gapers to the millionth degree. It was staged. His home resort has set up countless shoots with him since the mid 2000s, including ones with guests who are stoked to be a part of it because he's a local legend. He's also the best skier to ever live but then again you can't count on a bunch of bike joeys to know this. Stick to what you know before you embarrass yourselves even further.
  • 3 3
@scott-townes: No one is embarrassing themselves. It would serve the best skier in the world to mention the fact that it was staged, either in the description or the video itself. Example: youtu.be/LuDN2bCIyus?t=9m39s
  • 4 1
@mi-bike: no it really wouldn't serve him to do that. thats part of the appeal of the video. untwist your panties and relax a little, not everything is about FEEEEEEELINGS MAAAAAAAAAN
  • 6 8
@scott-townes: @scott-townes: Doesn't matter if it was staged, it is showing of with moves that would get you banned for life from a ski hill. Kids now look up to him and think oh wow cool I wish I could do that. I have worked on ski hills, and gleefully chased down skiers that did this and thought they were amazing, but were not actually that fast, or that good. One caught edge and you plow into multiple people most likely.

This ranks up there with all those mountain bikers that think roosting is cool! And all those fast and furious fans that think robbing banks and life on the run is cool. I have friends that are heli ski guides, and they would not take someone who showed this kind of behaviour out in the back country, their behaviour is too dangerous and show a great lack of judgement.
  • 4 3
@Bomadics: roosting is f*cking cool, so is f*cking around with joeys and jerrys. relax dude its the internet, its never real.
  • 7 1
@Bomadics: I hate to burst your bubble but kids have been skiing/snowboarding like jackasses before Candide........ lol at you thinking Fast and Furious is influencing a generation of bank robbers. You must be the kind of dude who wants to ban violent video games.
  • 5 6
@scott-townes: I have worked in the ski industry, I have seen what stupid attitudes do on ski hills some times, and cleaned up the messes left by "good" skiers and boarders. You have the attitude of someone who does not care about anyone but themselves. I don't think violent video games are good, no but I don't want to ban them, you are dong yourself and injustice by sending so much time exposed to violence, but that is your decision. I choose to expose myself to good things, like biking, nature and my wife!

My point is that kids look up to the characters in movies like F&F, they admire the recklessness of these characters, otherwise the movies would not do so well. If movies did not influence people they would not be made, period. If you think you are immune from propaganda, then go ahead out into the world, you are your own person.

And we all know that the world is MUCH more peaceful now than ever right, no wars being fought, or shootings by youth? So I guess video games and violent unrealistic movies ARE making the world better! I don't expect you to agree, in fact you would make my point for me if you disagreed with me, so please feel free to get all furious with me and my non violent tendencies!

@laxguy: right so you are not real and I can ignore you an your view points, thanks! One word PROPAGANDA, you are falling for it head over heels.
  • 4 0
@Bomadics: wtf are you even talking about bud? realize your experiences and point of view dont speak for everyone and you can chill out a little. its a f*cking video on the internet.... 5 minutes and its over and out of your life.
  • 5 0
@laxguy: I bet he's so much fun at parties, hahaha good lord this dude needs to get over himself.
  • 4 0
@zede: I'm not great but I think terrible is a bit harsh! As for the twat statement, meh, I'll take that on the chin.
  • 5 2
@laxguy: I speak for myself, I never claimed to speak for anyone, just standing up for what I believe, or should I just censor myself for you so you don't get all upset? My point was glorifying poor social behaviour is wrong in my opinion. If you feel that anyone can do anything they want as long as it is fun, then go ahead, it does not affect me whatsoever, in fact that kind of behaviour will get you exactly what you deserve so please continue being self absorbed, enjoy your life, as I will mine ripping down trails bothering no one!
  • 1 3
@scott-townes: I don't go to parties, they are for socially awkward people looking for self reinforcement, or just sex. The first I don't need, the second is none of your business.
  • 2 1
@Bomadics: again, you're attacking me for no reason. you have your point of view and i have mine. you felt the need to go on a public website and talk shit with your opinion. i voiced my opinion. go home and move on, its over.
  • 1 3
@laxguy: Dude, I am standing up for my opinion, if you don't like it go back to bed! Take your own advice and chill out!
  • 1 1
@Bomadics: oh cool thanks for letting me go, needed some sleep anyway.
  • 1 2
@laxguy: if you can't stand the heat get out of the forum!
  • 3 2
@Bomadics: f*ck off already. No one cares about you.
  • 2 4
@scott-townes: Giggle, well thought out response!
  • 2 1
@scott-townes: I think that's his main issue... no one ever cares what he has to say
  • 2 1
@Bomadics: that’s the most gash retort in all of human history.

The only people that “don’t go to parties” are people who aren’t invited, normally because they’re c*nts!

:-D
  • 1 1
@cunning-linguist: I am surrounded by people that just can't seem to think for themselves, party on dude, have a great life, if you like to party then good on ya!

And two vagina references, we know where your head is buried!
  • 2 0
 @Bomadics: ha! Good lad! :-)

At least you saw my humour :-)

And, noooooo the wife is on Holiday! So none of that for me right now. :-( just work.

@cunning-linguist: some people here take themselves way too seriously and are great fun to bait!

 gwin to strava .......fuck off
  • 2 0
Anybody else watch the influencer video and get self-conscious.... gave me the feeling I need to nuke all social media. Probably should do that.
  • 2 0
Gwin makes pebbles into 30-foot jumps. Also, if Dirtbag makes its way to your area, the film was amazing.
  • 3 0
 Gwin.. always in a hurry!

 "where is yoze might?" Great.

Wow man, the "No Bad Days" one is heavy to look at. I get his point, but to watch the most horrible stuff and then hear someone say "there are no bad days" feels conflicting. That said, yes I get his point. If people would just stop saying how others should live their lives, what they should believe and whatnot, that would save us at least half the world conflicts (and conflicts built upon conflicts, upon conflicts...) And we here at Pinkbike can learn from that too. Every time one person goes "this is what/how I ride" and the other one goes "you're an idiot", it is time to think about this movie. If you've got a proper passion like riding a bike (or really, any passion), there is no point wasting your time over stupid disagreements.
  • 1 0
trailboss...i've made peace with the fact that i see rattlesnakes on most rides, but alligators? no effin way
  • 1 0
Candide's videos are unbelievable. Would love to know how his knees take the punishment?
  • 2 0
HAHA Florida omg...Massive up come on...
  • 3 0
It's a super fun place to ride, especially for us east coaster since it's an easy drive down the coast. As far as the up's, massive is a relative term, but those are all drops in the normal direction and a pretty good move I was psyched on.
  • 1 0
@jeff-lenosky: Yeah I was being a little negative, I guess you work with what you have I've only been to FLA 4 times and I ate a lot of Burritos and surfed until i was afraid of sharks haha.
  • 1 0
It's actually pretty fun... especially in Jan or Feb, I freeze my butt off in NJ I imagine Maine is even worse! Def bring your bike next time. I'm itching to get back to Maine this summer though, any trail advice would be awesome.
  • 1 0
thanks for including the Fred Beckey trailer. Legend.
  • 1 3
Whilst Gwin is great, if MotoWorlds ridiculous next level over seriousness creeps into DH, whilst speeds will increase/times drop, it will wreak what makes DH awesome.
  • 1 0
 No surf?
  • 2 5
Makes me laugh that BMX stands for bicycle motocross. The sport couldnt be farther away from "motocross"
  • 3 6
maybe you should re-align your understanding of BMX and motocross..
  • 6 4
@laxguy: maybe. maybe you should go play in traffic..
  • 2 4
@owlie: that seems like a reasonable response. go f*ck yourself too a*shole
  • 4 0
@owlie ,i kinda gotta agree with ya.........

imagine travelling back in time to attend this race....................

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G0lrs_SZZk&t=0s&list=PL44464CB18F78E23C&index=20

with a brand new 2018 sc v10.

people would be dumping their pants.
the modern dh bike IS a bicycle motocross.

motocross bikes have suspension.

back in 80/81, if someone were to show us kids a 2018 sc v10, the small wheels and rigid frames would have never been spoke about again.

@laxguy: I think I hear your mom calling you to come upstairs for dinner
  • 1 1
@stacykohut: I actually raced "BMX" in the 70s. The videos tagged as BMX now are all street style, nothing like BMX
  • 1 1
@owlie: i wish my mom still made me dinner.. maybe then i'd eat properly.
  • 2 0
@laxguy: angry guy, just have to comment.. id laugh watching owl stomp a mudhole out of you. you sound fat
  • 1 1
@hashtag-enduro: angry guy? pretty sure you're projecting man... but yes I am bored right now so I'll reply.. and honestly, I wish she would make me dinner.... I'm only going to survive on chicken nuggets for so long
  • 2 1
You must've not grown up riding BMX. BMX roots are in racing..on a track...in discipline classes like moto...thats where it started from. It morphed into Freestyle and several other forms like trails that still embody whipping a bike around in the air.
  • 1 0
@jawill: ah ha! jawill hits the nail on the head with the comment i wasnt willing to write. good on you for reading comprehension and being reasonable. Smile
  • 1 2
@jawill: The riders also evolved to become immune to brain haemorrhages, saving them the time, effort, and money involved with owning a helmet.
  • 2 1
@drewstinky: oooh clever! pick on someone for a choice they made... bet you're vegan and youve evolved to be morally superior and better in really every way
  • 1 0
@laxguy: Its never a complete pinkbike thread without people bitching about BMX riders not wearing helmets.! Wooo. I wear one when I ride my BMX, and even suggest young kids to wear them in our local class. However, its always the riders choice...they are fully aware of the choice they make.
  • 1 1
@jawill: exactly, and obviously people didn't pick up on the sarcasm when i called him a vegan... *shrug* pinkbike is a real shit show these days..
