Honestly, I couldn't give a shit less about competitions, of any sort. Who cares how you compare against some other person. For me, riding is about pushing myself and creating something beautiful through my interaction with the bike and the trail. I don't need anyone else to help me do it. I'm glad Brandon seems to feel the same way. And that, unlike me, he's actually good at it.
  • + 86
With such skill on mountain bike. He should try crankworx slopestyle. He could give the boys a run for their money.

@monsterville "Who cares how you compare against some other person." - A lot of people do, that's how they push themselves. So what? Focus on your way, don't hate on others.
  • + 8
@monsterville: I’m with you in that one. Probably just as well too, I’d imagine his runs are a commentator’s nightmare - half of the tricks he throws down haven’t even been named yet!
  • + 25
 @KoAStR: Dude...
  • + 36
You realize he wouldn't be where he is today and able to do edits like these if it wasn't for him competing, right?
  • + 4
I respect competitions more than film projects. It's one thing to land a trick 1 in 10 tries and stick it in an edit. It's a whole new level to stick every trick in an entire run when it counts.
  • + 25
@chriskneeland: you've seen his unreal (one shot) segment right?

@l-JP-l: Yeah, no corks 7's, no triple whips, no double flips, no cashroll's, no twisters, no oppo 7's, no 360 whips...Not that impressive.
  • + 26
@chriskneeland: fyi semenuk has won joyride (the biggest slopestyle comp) 5 times.

@shjsy: Yeah, 5 years ago. The game is at a new level now.

 @chriskneeland: he won in 2017..
  • + 18
@ChrisNJ: You don’t have to compete with others to excel at what you do. Danny MacAskill is a good example, as well as the countless athletes, artists, inventors, etc. who never get recognized for their work.
  • + 24
@chriskneeland: Man, I'd say that last shot is make it or there are no more tries. Pretty high-stakes.

@TheR: I never said it wasn't impressive. I said I respect competitions more than filming. Then everyone got butt hurt.
  • + 16
@chriskneeland: irrelevant. This is not how humans think on the internet. The author of the first comment presented to a very romantic idea that we humans do not need to compete to achieve beautiful things. It is nothing new off course but males tens to not think this way as we are generally biased towards competition. It spoke to anima part of male psyche unleashing the potential for love and empathy. If caught in the romantic mode it makes males feel vulnerable and thus they become aggressive as they run for their arms.

@WAKIdesigns: Meh. Art vs. competition. Expression vs. performance. It's the eternal argument. The consistency and precision of competition can be an art in and of itself. No need to discount it.
  • + 5
@chriskneeland: the subject is irrelevant. Using propping system is not a rational activity, it is a way of channeling repressed insecurities related to social norms and social acceptance. Brandon Semenuk Can ride the bike the way he does because he did certain things and now some bloke on the internet thinks he discovered key to his success. That is being “chilled out” and doing “his thing”. And many can relate to it. Because they are chillin and don’t do much sht. Except Brandon obviously spent as much time riding and practicing as some of our grandfathers did mining for coal. But that is not as an attractive concept as sitting, doing nothing and coming up with the concepts for reaching the meaning of life.

  • + 6
@TheR: Isn't the the pad he overshot a few years ago in a vid?
  • + 10
I’m gonna chime in on this because I’m stupid. Dude is still competing, he’s just competing with “edits”. And he definitely seems to be in a league of his own. As far as the original post goes, it is entirely possible that the most talented guitar player in the world is some dude who sits on his porch and blasts out the most technical and beautiful music out there to nobody but the crickets, but this is not what Semenuk is doing. Dude is recording albums one track at a time. I don’t even care about this style of riding anymore. My tricking days are done. But I will still watch everything he puts out there. Unbelievable talent. People are focusing in on where And when he puts himself out there instead of how. Just enjoy it. It’s genius on a bike.
  • + 9
@chriskneeland: dude it’s pinkbike. Everybody is butthurt 24/7. And you dissed a semenuk edit by stating you like comps more than edits.
  • + 3
@UtahBrent: I’m pretty sure you’re right but this time he’s on a slopestyle bike and doesn’t jump the whole thing at once.
  • + 1
 @Garrathustra: very well said man!
  • + 1
@deadmeat25: IKR little hasty there... Redface
  • + 1
@Garrathustra: right, here we're confusing competition with professionalism
  • - 3
@Garrathustra: If by league of his own, you mean the only guy making cute internet videos while slopestyle events progress to the next level. Not saying you have to like one over the other. Different strokes for different folks.
  • + 3
That’s the same gap from revel in the chaos, the utah night shoot. @TheR:
  • + 1
 ????????????@scotttherider:
  • + 4
@chriskneeland: maybe he realized there is more to the art of what he does than how many times you can spin around in a circle, and felt he wouldn’t be justly rewarded in competition for that sort of riding
  • + 1
This is still a form of competition: He's trying to make the most aesthetically pleasing, over the top, beautiful, stylish, technical, boundary pushing video of mt biking ever made, and pretty much winning at it. Right?
  • + 1
@WAKIdesigns: My man, what kind of drugs are you doing today? Your commentary here is lacking it’s usual level of bizarre cleverness and wit. It’s both acerbic and sardonic but without your uncannily brilliant delivery.
  • + 1
@chriskneeland: Except that's not what's happening when filming these, and its not like he's got anything to prove when it comes to competing!
  • - 1
@shredright: I guess I just expect a higher level of riding from Semenuk. This stuff isn't the pinnacle of the sport which he's become known for.
  • + 1
@chriskneeland: Nobody can do what he's doing, the way he does it, on this edit, and the others, which aren't comp settings. Your criticism is ridiculous.
  • - 1
@shredright: The top ten riders in the Fox US Open of slopestyle could do this. That's my point. If people think this is the pinnacle of the sport, they're not paying attention. It's a shame.
  • + 0
@chriskneeland: it is irrelevant. He is judged by the whole picture, styling, building, filming. It all comes together. US Open slopestyle course does not look like that. Go try filming an arty, sense stimulating video with jumps from US Open SS. Yeah you maybe could. But it is not the point.

Nobody else does sht like that. That riding, such vibe to motion picture. This particular Raw 100 may not involve the sickest tricks, I actually think v3 one had the sickest moves so far. V2 had very little ticking in it, but it was incredible to watch with what precision he rides stuff.

And mark my words, Slope Style will take a bite at it’s tail soon. There’s some big monsters like Fest Series taking a bite at the Wow Factor. We have a dude in town doing backflip with double tailwhip and tripple tailwhip, it starts to look ridiculous. It is this far from being, oh quadruple barspin 360/backflip - really? Who cares buddy, only a few conneseurs, and conneseurs are fine as long as they don’t go ahead and crap on folks who aren’t, removing themselves to a rather lonely plane. Like with whip off. Who cares if you did 100 or 75 degrees? It has to look stylish and if it looks excellent at 60 degrees it’s great!
  • + 2
@WAKIdesigns: Says more about the production crew than the rider. Like I said, the consistencyin, and level of, competition in SS today is more impressive.
  • + 1
@chriskneeland: So you basically expect him to trump contest tricks when making a video? And interaction crew-rider is irrelevant? It’s like saying: who gets impressed by Bernard Kerrs edits when Amaury Pieron is faster? I mean fine, you can have your own standards, nobody is asking you to change them.
  • + 1
@WAKIdesigns: Yeah, you have 100 tries to do something. Competitors have one. If competitors are throwing down heavier tricks on one run, while you're throwing tail whips off a weird rock then it's not that impressive, no matter how many angles or color graded it is.
  • + 2
@chriskneeland: They can't! Not like that. Don't be dim ffs.
  • + 1
@chriskneeland: This is one of the dumber comments I've seen on the internet, no offense man.
  • + 1
@matttauszik: Meh, just jaded I guess.

youtu.be/8PVOWhp3Kyg
  • + 21
Maybe its just me, but the buzzing was distracting to the point of annoying by the end. I think a quiet hub would be better to focus on the riding and tire shredding. look how many comments below about the hub.
  • + 10
@DDoc: I dig the sound! I also like how it conveys wheelspeed data as I watch, really cool!
  • + 4
I almost spit my coffee out when I read this, haha. Hilarious
  • + 10
Someone get him an onyx hub. That said, fucking incredible as usual.
  • + 7
On one of the drops he is pedeling but the Freehub still makes that noise I wonder how this is possible
  • + 7
... but somehow no drone noise
  • + 18
@dark-o: Because in the air, his wheel is spinning faster than he is turning the cranks.
  • + 8
@generationfourth: Imagine they put a mic on the bike, not the drone.
  • + 4
All drones sound like Brandon Semenuk now.
  • + 5
@dark-o: it’s post production audio. That’s not the real sound of the bike or dirt. It’s manufactured later in a studio to replicate what it might sound like. It allows them tightly control the audio experience and accent things in a way that’s simply not possible with a standard mic setup.

Nearly all of Semenuks vids have used this for quite a while now.
  • + 7
Could somebody send him a set of Onyx hubs please??
  • + 5
@dark-o: He's booking it. If you pedal slower than the wheel is spinning your freehub is still doing its job.
  • + 4
@HurricaneCycles: I'm not saying the don't do a ton of post production audio, but I actually think they tightly mic the bike vs add in all the foley sounds after the fact. Could be wrong...
  • + 5
@DDoc: What an amazing video, but agree with you about the buzz. I gave up my loud freehub 2 years ago for a silent one and life is just better without an unnecessary noise in the woods.
  • + 3
@merlin33: I have wanted to give up my loud free hub. However I just think back to the one time I stopped pedaling up a hill in Montana, and the sound of the free hub caused a bear about thirty feet away just on the other side of some trees to bolt down the hill. I thank if for that, and consider it my wake-up call to the critters I would rather see running than licking their chops.
  • + 4
@plyawn: I do t remember which one it was but they specifically talked about this aspect of Semenuks films with o e of the releases relatively recently. It was just to highlight how much effort goes into these films. It’s expensive to hire an audio engineer for these types of things. The the effect is very obvious to anyone watching.

Not sure why the down votes. This is how ALL Hollywood movies are done. You can get a degree in the stuff even!
  • + 5
@plyawn: ignorance is a disease. Took one google search to find this.

Kieth White Audio has done the post production audio for MOST of your favorite bike films. Including all the RAW100 segments.

www.keithwhiteaudio.com

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this and I thoroughly enjoy the effect they create by using this method. I just want to shed a little light For those who think his hub actually THAT loud. It’s not.
  • + 2
@Aikow: I want another Chris King hub. Bout as loud as I can stand.
  • + 3
 @HurricaneCycles:
So true but this time they've screwed up and turned post processing up to 11 and made it obnoxious and distracting and at points even wrong and misleading. Pitch and dopplereffect doesn't sync to drops, landings and accelerations or the panning of shots. Sometimes less is more and they know this but somebody was pro bees....
  • + 1
@Aikow: This is a valid reason. I do use a Timber Mountain bike bell on most descents. It serves many purposes, and certainly alerting wildlife to my presence is one.
  • + 103
Not too many series get better with each instalment. That was next level.
  • + 96
Wait, so that jump at the end is the same one he nearly had a massive wipeout on a while back, on a DH bike, no tricks. Now he's hitting it on a dirt jump bike with one brake and a tail whip thrown in...? Seriously WTF

  • + 1
 lol ikr complete no brainer!
  • + 7
I'd say the only thing that detracts from his style is that he's throwing such insane tricks. You look at something like a Thomas Vanderham table top and it's 100% style. Rogatkin is close to 100% degree of difficulty on the tricks. Semenuk is like 98% of each (for a total of 196% - he's that good)
  • + 3
@plyawn: amen. I won't say there aren't dozens of other talent or technically impressive pro riders out there, but who else has effortless style and smooth finese like Semenuk? Its not even a competition. I always love watching Aggy, Vinny T, Doerfling, Lacondeguy ride for their style, every single video without question, you know its gonna be sick... but still... Semenuk man, got that little bit extra that's not tangible. He deserves his crown.
  • + 4
 I voted for wade Simmons.
  • + 5
I did vote for somebody else and my favorite style rider will always be Thomas Genon (who wasn't even on the options list) but that does not mean I don't appreciate Semenuke's style. He is better than Genon. He is by modern standardas the best. I can see that. But if I could ride like anybody, I'd like to ride like Genon. It's a personal preference.
  • - 1
@ranke: I said he was up there just not the most stylish. I honestly don’t think most people know what style means in this regard.
  • + 1
@TheR: I’d like to see simple stylish riding. I’m not interested in the tricks. I’d like to see him shred a trail bike. Give the flip whips a break and let’s see some steeze.
  • + 4
@thenotoriousmic: So go watch any number of his other edits of him on his Dh and trail bike? That is why Semeneuk is the style king; he can do it on any bike. I'm glad we get to enjoy his talent across all types of bikes.
  • + 2
@plyawn: I agree and I'd add that he just makes it look so easy. He doesn't look like he's trying real hard or on the edge of losing it. His manual's are so crisp, he almost looks bored when not flying through the air. Just an unreal talent.

I love watching Semenuk, those cranked 3's and combo tricks - ridiculous. If I'm honest though, I don't really get the point of going to a zone like this and buffing the shit out of it until it's as smooth as wood. Makes a nice backdrop for the steeze I suppose.
  • + 3
I guess it makes it more interesting? Otherwise, he would film every video in the same spot. Just build, ride, film, plow, repeat. It wasn't quite as groomed looking as Rheeders Return to Earth seggy though! Plus, Utah has unique natural features and flow (case to nose manny to bar on that rock) that make it super cool.

He just gets better and better and I did vote for him last week too ( pat on back)...... mozzie hubs!
  • + 10
free hub could do with a squirt of brake cleaner, not noisy enough
  • + 10
Insane as always. The skill is near inhuman.
  • + 9
I bunny hopped a curb today.
  • + 5
Dislike, because he stole the tricks from Pumped BMX ????

But in all seriousness - this is by far my favorite of the Revel Co Videos - I think this one is the most insane and the more I think about it, the more amazed I am. A freeride setting in Utah on a slopestyle bike with a course, that is unlike anything I've ever seen - because it not only combines slopestyle and freeride BUT ALSO BMX! The same goes for the tricks: I mean I don't have come here to circlejerk here about Brandon's pretty much flawless style - but when we're talking Toboggan Pocket Airs on a slopestyle bike?! IN THE DESERT?!! Manuals with a tailwhip out?
This is like a full on BMX edit - just look up any of the Vans BMX Pro Cups and street edit of the last... maybe two years?

Oh - and please tell me this isn't the gap from Revel in the Chaos that he just whipped?!

Hands down, this is one of the best mountain bike videos ever made in my opinion; I wasn't too amazed by the last couple of Revel Co edits - not that they were bad, just not quite as surprising as this one. This one absolutely blows my mind.
  • + 4
i cant breathe anymore...just to stoked...what the hell just happened....there is no need to say anything about this Video. It is out of competition...big respect to Schremdon Bremenuk.
  • + 3
The skills on display are unbelievable and it is nuts that this level of riding can be expected as standard for him. I will admit that I had to mute it and rewatch it because all I could think about was how much it sounds like a nitro RC car.
  • + 6
Fook me! To all his sponsors keep paying the money!
  • + 4
I'm so close to mastering that first trick. The only thing I still have to learn is flips, whips, and manuals. And combining them.
  • + 5
WOW. That was amazing. Not a fan of hub noise, but otherwise that was pretty much perfection.
  • + 8
Hub noise is like pickles in burgers. Only a few people like them but the industry makes everyone live with it.
  • + 10
@t1000: I'm a pickles on a burger kind of guy. I think they're necessary. But, it seems to be an "American" thing. Also, I like noisy hubs.

And while we're talking about pickles: Dill, half sour or full sours only. Preferably fermented. They can even be super-garlicky or spicy. I'll eat them straight outta the jar, too. But, none of this sweet pickle or bread 'n butter crap.
  • + 1
 @Zhehan: found the pole
  • + 2
@Zhehan: you sound like my other half, no offense if I'm wrong!
  • + 4
@Zhehan: I'm an American and to me, pickles are gross! When I'm selling my art at the festivals/markets people walk by with those pickle-on-a-stick and I have to look away. Kissing someone that eats pickles is like kissing a smoker---won't do it! With that said...when I do get a Chick-fil-a sandwich the only thing they put on it is...a pickle! So, I immediately toss the wretched little chip, but I am left with, as the comedian Hannibal Buress calls it...the "essence of the pickle"...that flavor juice that seeped into the bread, and upon biting into that section it is an extra pop in taste that I enjoy. It's all about subtlety for me I suppose....and I do prefer less noisy hubs too Wink
  • + 1
 @GlassGuy: I can't stand Chick-fil-a. But, to each their own. ;-)

haha, came here, watched the video and was about to post the same thing. He was trying everything too get rid of the little bastards.
  • + 4
Glad im not the only one. I've never understood the appeal of a loud ass hub.
  • + 4
@BedsideCabinet: it’s nice at the bike park when you’re coming up behind slower riders.
  • - 3
It’s not the actual hubs making that sound. The audio is produced in a sound lab after the shoot so they can a create an audio experience separate from the visual.

That being said they may well have used the same hub Brandon uses to create that sound.
  • + 5
Semenuk. The movie. Whens a full length auto biography on his career coming out along with a peaty version?
  • + 6
 He does it again... again!
  • + 6
Ok if I can’t ride like him I at least want that hub...
  • + 1
I feel like Brandon's riding is so highly accomplished, that performing skillful aerial bicycle tricks become mundane task, it's like he's always winning.

|Professional; adjective: A person engaged in a specific activity for incrementally increasing difficulty, that they end up performing at the highest of standards.
  • + 1
ooooohhhh myyy god!! its not often a video makes me shout out loud. but hoollyyy shit! that no hander to manual on the whale tale type rock and tailwhip off looks soooo damn hard. Then that double lander rock hop thing was pretty fucking epic!.. EMBRACE THE STOKE. Ride on Brandon!

Fantastic balance of the huge and outrageous with bonks and other small scale but technical flare. Pure ride porn ride there.
  • + 1
Love the riding style of Brandon, met him once at Whistler and was blown away by how accommodating he was with the fans too, the guy seems almost shy. If the hub noise bugs you, there's a mute button for the video so give that a crack!

I wonder if he's done this to qualify for Rampage again? I see he's not on the list of pre-qualified riders www.redbull.com/us-en/events/rampage/rampage-riders-2019
  • + 3
Well, he's won it twice and he doesn't do competitions much any more. And, at this point, what does he have to prove? I really enjoy the art he's creating these days more anyway...
  • + 1
At each time I watch a raw100 from semenuk, or any edit from him, I'm just impressed on the way he can push himself always further, even while being at the top of the sport. How can you even manage to make always crazier things?

Plus, I love how he doesn't do complex tricks at each obstacles, but sometimes just does something really smooth in a place you wouldn't think it is possible, such as his nose-bonks 180 in the raw 100 v4 or such stuff.

Smoothest rider in the history for sure.
  • + 5
Send him the Rampage trophy now.

 He makes my brain hurt.

I cant even do that on Dave Mirras Freestyle BMX game

Brandon Semenuk has the ultimate bike job!!! Nothing but where to ride, and how to ride it to it's maximum, all while continuously delivering yet another round of razor sharp riding. Thank you!
  • + 1
I saw this and thought “hm... another Brandon semenuk video?”
Then I remembered all the other ones I’ve seen and decided to click.... again, blown away by his skill and fluidity. Such a clean rider.
Glad I clicked.

Watched this outside. Jaw was dropped so long, a moth flew into my mouth.
  • + 4
 WTF!
(watches again...)
WTF!
  • + 2
I bet the government has shut down this area, otherwise man will know superhumans do exist and that he rode I-9 hubs in the desert somehow flying from rock to rock.
  • + 3
Industry nine shredding my ears. Love it. Also Semenuk is not from this planet.
  • + 5
 Not bad
  • + 2
I cant even do that stuff in Pumped BMX! Love that Virgin dirt. He must have filmed this early spring
  • + 2
My reaction watching this video was problably the same as if I saw a spaceship landing on my backyard.
  • + 2
Semenuk after seeing the "style poll" from last week; "lets show it to all the 49 people who have voted for somebody else"
  • + 3
Not just next level. Maybe 3 levels? Holy f$ck!
  • + 1
case to nose manual to table????? Was that a Jake Seeley bmx inspiration?? reminds me of his sprocket case to nose manual in ride bmx headlights movie
  • + 3
new tld helmet, after 10 years, release it !!!
  • + 1
Love that last jump, rock to rock, looks like they had to move some dirt to make the landing smooth, still a very beautiful ride.
  • + 2
I like what I see on his head .... new TLD lid it would appear and it looks sooooo good !!
  • + 2
Plot twist. Thank you for your vision and ability to break down the walls B.
  • + 2
That was amazing riding, and it reeks of Scotty Cranmer, in the best way possible.
  • + 2
why does the hub not make noise for some of the jumps? Like tailwhips, the wheel is still spinning....
  • + 1
brake is likely squeezed during a whip an the frame is spinning which makes the rear wheel slow down.
  • + 1
Semenuk is insane! Love what he can do on a bike and how he just keeps getting better as time goes on tup
  • + 1
Did he just create the Rampage Freeride Park!!!? I WANT IN ON IT!...PLEASE!!!!!!!!
  • + 1
Amazing! Not a fan of the hard shot transitions in the edit, but none the less amazing.
  • + 1
So many armchair punters!!! Semenuk is the most talented rider of all time, no question
  • + 1
Branden ur insane.. sick video as always.. I can watch this video over and over again..amazing.

Say what u want about Semenuk but the bloke is an innovator and every edit is better than the last!!
  • + 1
well then. This man is suck an innovator. Huge props to you Brandon.

Maybe we will be seeing bar spins and bike spins this year at Rampage?

Video was sick!
  • + 1
I can't remember the last time before this that something made me yell at my tv. What!!!
  • + 1
That's it! Mountain biking is complete, Pinkbike can shut down now. Thanks for playing.
  • + 2
How can he sit down with balls this big? =D

  • + 2
 CLASS
  • + 1
I bet he played lots of TG Motocross as a kid...
  • + 1
I'd rather a contest run like this opposed to Oppo tricks
  • + 0
 verbs. they exist.
  • + 2
It's a shame that contests don't have features built in a way that can be ridden as creatively like this... Modern day slopestyle contests are designed for ariel banger after banger with different variation of features to do them on. I really wish they had more interesting and techy features like back in the 2008-2011 era of slopestyle.
  • + 1
The sounds plays a massive in how kickass this video is...
  • + 2
 Semenuk for president!
  • + 1
I think sem just won rampage

  • + 1
Hope, Industry Nine, or Chris King?

  • + 1
Note to self...you can make casing jumps cool now
  • + 0
I love a semenuk vid but couldn’t even finish it, I’d rather ride chainless than listen to that horrendous hub
  • + 1
New bike for rampage, this is a winning run
  • + 1
 Victor Vincenze was a legend.
  • + 1
Again I say, he's not human...

  • + 1
 Savage
  • + 1

  • + 1

  • - 2
Does anyone ever consider the environmental impact of turning a pristine wonderland into a single use bike park?
  • + 0
I think they discussed this during Rampage at one point? It's something I'm thinking about, too. I'm sure they're destroying a lot of desert flora unfortunately, which is super terrible, but the only "benefit" is that with the highly erosive nature of that area, most of the features will be weathered away pretty quickly during monsoon season.
  • + 3
Does anyone ever consider that THE PEOPLE INVOLVED HAVE considered the environmental impact? untwist your panties and relax.
  • - 1
What on his bike makes that cool laser beam sound?
  • - 2
Hard to enjoy the video with that hub sound searing your brain raw.
