bigquotesI can't believe it's been three years since the first Higher Calling but I always wanted to film a sequel to it. Higher Calling 2 started in the same way that the first one did: trying to build a unique trail that would be fun to ride. My friends Lyle and Greg Warren were fresh off completing their own trail, Loam Line, and offered to help. Together we scoped a good area to build and got started. It was a ton of fun working with them, and finally riding the whole line in one go was awesome. Filming with Scott was a lot of fun too. Having friends to plan and share ideas with is what made this video come together. I hope it inspires you to ride more, ride faster, and maybe air a little Higher.

Hey Pinkbike, didn't you hear? DH bikes are dead.
  • 272 4
it was just an enduro bike with a dual crown and 200 mm rear travel
  • 83 2
And really progressive, stable gravity geometry
  • 50 2
 @medievalbiking: "super enduro"

if that bike is dead, I'm a necrophilic
  • 70 3
DH bikes are continuing to enable gnarlier riding, it's not that the DH bike is dead, just that the bar has been lifted for all bikes and trail bikes of today ride what DH bikes of yesterday rode. The trails Dean is riding are next level and definitely constitute a DH bike.

 Hahaha. That is jokes blood.

 @bikerguy957: Pinkbike of course!

what kind of wood is the frame made out of? I myself like a nice cherry, really helps with the small bump sensitivity but for all out rocks and roots mahogany is hard to beat.
  • 34 0
Ron Burgundy's bike is made of rich mahogany. You only get a solid wood bike if you're a big deal.

 that trail... daggggggggggg...

@taquitos: he has a special rack to carry many leather bound books.

Videos like this are the reason DH bikes will never die. They just look awesome even if you could hit the same stuff on an Enduro. Bet you couldn't hit it day in day out though. I'll keep my DH bike until I can't ride either bike anymore. The DH Bike is dead , Long live the DH Bike.
  • 1 0
 my first response also.
  • 16 5
Seriously downhills dead? i mean honestly is anyone hyped on this enduro crap the bike industry is trying to ram down our necks? I've yet to see a single enduro edit that hasn't been as dull as dishwater and the EWS is an absolute snore fest as well. This edit is fire absolutely loved it.
  • 2 0
I wish i had the cash to spend it on dh bikes and bike parks!
  • 20 2
These comments are so dumb. Sick riding is sick riding and this edit is amazing. Who cares what type of bike someone is on. It's about the riding and Tennat and Secco nailed it! Well done boys!
  • 31 0
@theedon: Thanks! It always blows my mind what people write in the comments haha. It's a free bike video, watch it then go ride!
  • 2 0
@dtax: if it's not dead I guess that makes you a dendropheliac
  • 2 2
@thenotoriousmic: I so agree with you, my tag on this site has been 'enduro is lame' for a long time since it became a pro only affair, its glorified xc for f@cks sake. Every product has enduro slapped on it now, it's pathetic
  • 2 0
@scottsecco: thats what the mentality should be, but most of us just seem to like bickering over components online than actual riding Frown
  • 3 0
@ctd07: guys round here are doing what they've always done xc rides only difference is there wearing day glow clothing and calling it enduro... It's absolute bullshit. The stars of the sport are still the top DH racers and freeriders. I can't name a single EWS rider that hasn't made a name racing dh first. Yet pinkbikes trying to tell me DH is dead. What a joke.
  • 5 1
@scottsecco: To be clear, my original comment was meant to compliment Dean and yourself while taking a jab at Pinkbike for their silly article a few days ago. You've demonstrated quite conclusively that DH bikes aren't dead! The PB comments section isn't always the greatest at catching a joke. Kudos for another quality edit, I actually did watch it and then go for a ride!

But yeah, a sick edit it is!
  • 37 2
You pretty much know it's gonna be dope before you even watch it when you see Dean Tennant and Scott Secco...
  • 7 1
Yeah, I added it to my favorites and haven't even watched it yet.

Thanks @trimakas! Dean is always awesome to work with since he has the patience to deal with long setup times for cable cams. Stoked you enjoyed it!
  • 29 1
That's rad. And within days of pinkbike asking if the dh bike is dead. What a joke.
  • 19 6
I miss Larocque, he just has that magic touch when it comes to filming and editing a video. I don't mind this video, the riding is really good but for me it just doesn't have that feel the likes of the first higher calling or 'Dean tennant- Spring cleaning' have.
  • 8 1
whatever happened to that guy his videos where sick

Speaking of spring cleaning, why was the video made password protected?
  • 1 0
@Chadles: I noticed that a while back but you can still get the videos on the likes of youtube and vimeo fortunately
  • 1 0
 @EuanBisset145: Alright, cheers!
  • 14 0
The matching between the fork/frame/helmet and the blue fox/pivots looks incredible. Damn that's a pretty bike
  • 15 6
The original Higher Calling is one of my favourite vids of all time- No-one other than Mindspark could do the sequel justice. This was like a chinese copy of a Mindspark film. Start with a misty drone shot, use Lana Del Ray, even the whip shot at 50 seconds was a throw back to the original film but not as good. I can't help but think this would have been better if he didn't try so hard to emulate the original.
  • 11 0

The best part for me was the last 15 seconds, stunning view! That was one 9f the best videos I have watched. Can't ride like that but dam would be fun if I could.

uuuum, Yeah. VOD of year. Trial of year, etc etc. Way to go boys! well done.
  • 3 0
Nice woodwork! Great to see quality stunts being being built with pride.

Almost looked like Bill Mcclane (Bob`s in Nanaimo) built stunts.

Awesome edit.
  • 3 0
Bill has built some amazing features. Greg and I have always been huge fans of his work. This translates into how we build our wood features as well. It takes a long time to shave the logs etc, but the stunts last longer and look better because of it. We also use the same cedar planking that Bill uses.
  • 2 0
@neubiker: great to see Bill getting props from time to time. The trails he churns out are so fun, and have so much visual draw as well. Sick!
  • 4 0
Despite the awesome features and sick execution of jumps, my favorite moment is the high speed wheelie. Smile
  • 4 1
Music is not right Such quality riding, filming and editing ruined by fucking terrible music choice should read MUST MUTE
  • 3 0
This is as good as it gets you ask me. The different angles really add to you ask me.....helps you appreciate the speed and the amplitude. Way to go yo!
  • 3 3
Just some advice take it or leave it, but I would love to see an edit with no slow motion or repeat shots. I feel like if there are repeat shots, it forces the viewer into admiring that shot/air and also signifies that the editor thinks that shots a big deal. However, with no repeat shots, the viewer gets a faster paced edit and has the freedom to choose which shots they think are worth repeating. Great work though, love the cable cam
  • 4 0
Pretty much anything by Caldwell Visuals should float your boat

Excellent riding and editing, but not the best music choice...

Dean and Scott got a drone! Props to the builders too.
  • 3 0
@cottonmouthdug Yep, drones rule! Lyle and Greg deserve a ton of credit for building most of the things we filmed but we also owe a huge shout out to the dedicated crew at Mt. Prevost.
  • 4 0
I chubbed up...... The bike caught some wood too.
  • 4 0
Best looking graphics I have potentially ever seen!
  • 3 1
@scottsecco - You and Dean need to do a raw edit together. Your camera work and nothing but Dean's tires ripping the earth--ah that would be a higher calling indeed.
  • 4 0
Good suggestion @Geriatric-J! We've talked about it but it feels like it's becoming somewhat of a cliche. I think if we did one it would need a fresh concept to make it unique...
  • 2 0
@scottsecco: I hear ya on the cliche thing. But you are the two dudes who could it right.
  • 2 0
Just watched this after riding, now I want to go out again even though my old man legs are saying NOOO! My inner 20 year old is saying C'MON!
  • 3 0
Very well said, sir.I feel your pain. Doesn't stop me though.......
  • 2 0
well that was f'n dope. At least the complainers are only complaining about the music and not the color of his socks or his wardrobe.

Music sucked bruh! Downhill is going to die if you guys keep making videos of yourselves pumping and dancing around on your bike while hipster, electro dubshit plays in the background. I cant watch these vids with sound anymore!! I just feel like you have to be on drugs or have seen a dick up close to like these "musical themes" associated with downhill videos.
  • 3 0
That sudden ending was not fair! suck a sweet video
  • 3 1
That was dam sick. I thought the music fit perfectly with the filming and scene man

This is Lana Del Rey for all the basement dwelling haters.
  • 2 1
and? does her name make that music better?
  • 3 3
@Blablablup123: No, her raw and world renowned talent and millions of album sales do though chief.
  • 1 0
@KozSlow: really? Tell me your trolling in the hope that some fool like me bites...
  • 1 0
@VwHarman: Let me guess... This needz mooaarr Panteraaaa mannnn
  • 1 0
@KozSlow: Nope, not at all. Pantera works for some edits, sure, but likely not this one. My comment is meant more to question your overall understanding of the difference between actual timeless musical talent and someone who is talented, but likely gets more credit than she is due, due to the relative unimpressiveness of her peers. You seem to be flying the flag fairly high for Ms. Del Rey, but your "oh man, this guy must just be some stoner lunkhead listening to metal all day long" arguement is weak man. Explain why she sets your world ablaze, and maybe i'll give it a shot, Album sales don't mean anything though, FYI, and her talent is good, not great. Come with more than that.
  • 1 0
@VwHarman: You want to question my understanding of music industry theory... Hmm... Interesting. I guess we could start by examining the fact that I've actually written albums that were on the Billboard Charts and played guitar for an internationally signed band and unlike all keyboard warriors, I'd be more than happy to provide proof. So tell me again... why would your opinion ever matter?
  • 1 0
@KozSlow: The same reason your opinion matters. Anyone can claim to be anything behind a screen man. You have yet to prove a single point. You haven't even defended her talent, which you initially seemed to be championing. I don't actually care about your understanding, or lack thereof, of musical theory. You came here and made a comment about her music. Defend, or pack up and go home. Remember who wrote the inflammatory comment in the first place about basement dwelling such and such...you opened the door man. You don't like people calling you out on your BS, tough titties.
  • 1 1
@VwHarman: If you think for a second that your opinion matters as much as mine, you clearly are the braindead Bernie Sanders supporter that I assumed you to be. I have real world experience in actually playing an instrument and experience in the industry with people who matter. You do not. Send me your email, I'll email you proof that I am who I say I am, and then you will apologize and return to your mom's basement.
  • 4 0
@KozSlow @VwHarman You guys should put the internet down and go ride some bikes!
  • 1 0
@scottsecco: Nailed it! As soon as I am done work. Sadly, I am driving my desk right now, but the trails are mine at 3! I don't have all that Billboard money like @KozSlow, but i'm riding as soon as I can! Yours may be the best comment of the day today fro me, Cheers!
  • 1 0
 @scottsecco: Lol, maybe you're right.
  • 1 0
@KozSlow: Ok bud. Keep patting yourself on the back about your incredible contributions to music. You are a lemming man. You have yet to actually respond to a single comment or question. You are nothing, and likely your brief flirtation with music stardom was riding on the coattails of someone with actual talent and ability. One of us has made comments about music, the other is throwing really weak sauce insults like a pre-pubescent child. The anger of your responses prove you have nothing to offer and you don't like being called out. Enjoy spending the rest of your life reminiscing about that time you almost made it.
  • 1 0
@KozSlow: Also, nice work putting up a picture of my little brother from 10 years ago. I'll give him a call tonight and let him know that a musical prodigy is repping his riding from years ago. Cool man.
  • 1 1
 ...Shiiit.
