I want to create content that's timeless. Most things today are filmed in one day, shot quickly, and then it’s over. Dead! Due respect to those who do it, but I want people to be able to watch my videos again in 10 years and for the content to still be cool. I don't want it to be just another piece of content you watch and then forget about.—Brage Vestavik
That edit was so awesome! Funily enough, even though I am 1/1000th as good as he is, I still feel as though I am riding like that when I ride, even though I’m probably getting maximum 3 feet of air. Delusion has its uses!
christfuck you whiney babies. i'm getting neg propped because people want someone to support their whiney little feelz instead of giving them tools to solve their problems. good luck getting nuked by ruskies, crybabies, that's where your logic got you.
@baca262: you're getting downvoted because you're being a dbag out the gate ("stfu"). Probably also because you're calling people whiny babies while being the loudest, most annoying whining baby in this entire thread. And whining about getting 100% meaningless, value-less downvotes (read: not real). And then whining about why other people don't have a grip on reality. Lol
@baca262: I'm confused by your value system. First, you say you want people to do things for you (i.e. develop bikes), then you tell people to "wipe your ass or perish, ain't anyone gonna do it for you". These sentiments seem at odds. You then go on to equate getting neg propped on PB to your house being on fire. I'm sorry it affects you so badly, but if that's the case I think you would benefit from therapy, because that would generally be considered an overreaction.
@DylanH93: honestly, I'd rather see him be given a bike a the top of some trailers mountain and tell him to go down, real fast...than watch him in rampage, rad as that wld be as well.
On repeat in my mind watching this edit: 'If this fits the category of freeride, what the hell do we call what everyone else is doing?....'
I feel like Brage has developed the focus, athleticism, and skill of a world-class rider but stolen and harnessed the souls of 1000 5th graders kicked out into the hall for not being able to subdue their inner burn for play.
Either this is something more than freeride, or Brage is freeriding alone on this planet.
@soup4myfamily: I just meant this movie was brutal. You also seem to watch very little porn (which is good of course) because lots of it is simply violent. As usual not meant to offend anyone or promote violent and illegal behaviors, cheers.
This. Actually really appreciate that he takes good lines into corners and down the rocky sections. Clear difference watching these videos and other free riders without a racing background.
Wow, there are "Must Watch" videos, and then there is that MASTERPIECE!!! Holy smokes, that was intense!
Brage must be a valuable athlete to have testing your products. I'd love to get transparent stats on how often and what parts he breaks, how often he replaces various bits and bobs, it would be fascinating information to have, which we'll never get.
On vitals podcast Dak mentioned Brage drills out his frame and parts to run 8 mm bearings and axles everywhere. Probably a rumor, but the fact that it is plausible says something…
My favourite thing about this is how 'relatable' the terrain is. It's mostly a blue trail that 95% of riders could ride, but it shows what is truly possible with a high enough skillset. I got the same feelings watching this as I did watching Arthur Longo's 'sidehit euphoria' (snowboarder, not hockey player) because it seems potentially achievable compared to watching line after line of heli-drops in AK that you will never visit in person.
@arnie86 this video rocks because (1) Brage absolutely destroys trails we all could ride (2) the sound of tires on dirt is so good (even if embellished) and (3) Brage looks pleasantly atypical for a Red Bull rider.
@arnie86 You are spot on. I look at those trails and think, I could ride that--maybe even well--and then understand the gulf between my (most of our) level and really see what this dude is doing. I never get that instinctive feeling watching guys send 90 foot gaps at hardline.
I've ridden most of the trails from the video some 8 yrs ago. That was among my best riding years. I was shitting bricks hitting some of the features on the Rollercoaster trail. Even some jumps on moderate trails were challenging for me. This is nuts. Can't get it. What a monster.
When races are on tracks without gnarly tech that reduces speeds, things get really dangerous. This video is totally what everyone wishes they could do at the bike park.
I'm new to this pedalling stuff coming from motocross and this dude smashes through things harder than Eli Tomac. He's like if Till Lindemann was a mountain bikeist.
Gotta admit. I don’t make it through very many MTB edits lately. Usually Chet about half way through and before I’m like yea i get it and click out. This however i couldn’t take my eyes off. And then instantly rewatched again.
Agreed. Great edit. Lessons learned: 1. Tires plowing through dirt are a much better sound than an annoying hub. 2. I have no valid excuses for going so slow around berms.
Some of it was sped up, don't get me wrong he is a level 10 rider but the sound and loose rock movement is off.
Guarantee I get some down votes for this...watch it closely.
@Snowytrail: Dammit, that totally spoils it. Just started watching again after reading this, and realised that most of the clips in the first minute or so are actually sped up (I stopped watching after that). What's the point of messing with riding which is clearly awesome as it was!?
@Snowytrail: OK just in case you did not already know, the sounds of mountain biking, schralph, rocks moving etc are added, augmented or even removed in post production for these professional edits. Notice how the sound level for the entire edit is almost at the same sound level no matter where the rider is in the shot. You can't shoot a vid of the bike 100 yards away and then 10 yards away and record the same sounds. You will go from no sound to lots of sound.
Is the video sped up in parts, I have no idea. Are the sounds added, edited, removed in post - almost certainly.
What I would like to know is if they stick a microphone on the bike and sync it up later in post production.
@IMeasureStuff: some detailed vidy folks, plant mics throughout the shot. That being said, pretty sure the clip of him picking up and dropping his bike a couple times was to grab the sound for riding shots, hah
@IMeasureStuff: I really dislike manicured postproduction sounds - would like to know what is original in this insane video. The rb making-of at least shows, they did use external microphones in some corners.
@effeffeff: I do also think they use microphones in strategic places, so away from the camera. That's all fine with me. For the drone shot for instance (during his longer manual), you wouldn't want to hear the annoying drone sound. I can't stand them. If only want to hear the sound of what could be heard from the camera point of view, a lot would be silence or unrelated sounds. I think the video is fine as it is. Except if there were parts sped up, but I can't tell if there were. Sound being off with the image? At sea level, the speed of sound is about 343m/s. The distance between camera and rider is easily such that the difference between the moment the image arrives (nearly instant) and that of the sound (easily a few tenths of a second later) should be noticeable.
@IMeasureStuff: No idea if any shots were sped up but the quick pans make it feel faster. Nevertheless, I think they could have use static cameras for those same rapid pan shots and we’d still be in awe.
@Snowytrail: Good eye! I agree, the editors played with video speed a lot, and some clips were sped up (though it feels like the majority were not). Not taking anything away from Brage, mad respect for him. His riding speaks for itself, no need to speed it up.
His setup of bike must be very simple - suspension max PSI, max tokens, max PSI in tyres. Unreal riding - without backflips triple tailwhip tuck no hander windshield tricks...
Guy's rocking jeans and just rode harder than all of us.
Keep him away from those POC overalls- I don't think the world is ready for that kind of power.
How can you ride this hard and aggressive? And with a not that good shoulder? Rode some of these trails this autumn in Hafjell, my YouTube video has very little resemblance though.
Amazing video Brage, looking forward to more content!
On the other side pinkbike comments on your bike ,probably be this bike it’s to stick to the ground ,you can not pop the bike :-)))),the reach is to short ,handlebar a little to narrow for the speeds we get ,the wheel base is on the short side ,ok for narrow tight turns but at spedd(:-)))) )it became unstable, etc ,etc ,etc ,o yes and it doesn’t have a bottle cage ,and that’s is a very bad thing in a bike ,just ride your bike people ,because the more you ride it the better you become at doing exactly that thing ,cheers
Holy SHIT! This edit is full of bangers! Every few shots I'm thinking DAMN HE'S HAULING ASS! These sounds of speed videos are so cool. In this one you hear the tires folding so often. It sounds like he's on the verge of burping the tires around every corner, and I bet he's running high pressure to deal with it. (Short clip: apparently he did burp at least once.) This is my favorite pure ride video I've seen in quite a while.
wow... finally, no shitty music, no perfectly manicured terrain. This sounds and looks exactly how I ride or day dream about DH... even the tricks ( huge nouse dives and missed large jumps landing off the trail ) is exactly my style.
P.S. I just ride about 10% of his speed but the rest - love it
Brage defines the "I don't want it to be just another piece of content you watch and then forget about" genre. PB really just needs a "Brage" tab at the top of the page to watch all his insane vids in one place.
There are so many rad riders out there - 1000's of no-namers too - but holy balls, this dude is on his own planet and his madman / Viking style (to be cliche) is just unparalleled. So glad I've gotten to see this guy ride in my life. I can die in peace now.
Wow best video he's such a beast of a smasher! I guarantee the ground actually shakes when he rides like that. If I had to pick a favorite part its the scrub at 2:18
Congratulations to you and your team (all of them),this is the kind of stuff that I miss watching these days like you say ,the rest is just like a commercial ,after 10 seconds you want to skip forward ,again f*cking riding ,stay strong ,and safe for now :-))))
Thank you Brage for making stuff that will be hard to forget and that I want to watch over and over! I miss snowboard, skateboard, and bike movies! Stuff you would watch multiple times and talk about for years. Put your parts together in a format I can buy on iTunes and I’d buy it to have easy access to it and with out commercials.
Free-ride Hanky! When you need a quick goggle wipe or a trail side tourniquet, get yours today. Carhartt point me in the direction of your marketing and R&D team please we are going to make millions.
the definition of "bourin" but with style and some kind of smoothness at the end. definitely appart other video or rider. the Bouldog deliver that kind of aggression also on trail ;-)
In the last weeks I told myself -your slowly getting there again, your kinda riding ok- I have to rethink that one. The power and confidence is just nuts.
That was the most entertaining edit I have seen in a long time. I watch the time bar slowly pass by on most these days. This flew by in an instant. Unreal
Wait a minute, he didn’t spend 2 minutes at the top of the trail putting his goggles on in a slo-mo drone shot! How can this be freeride without a ski-mo drone goggle opening?
The content is so good. But the filmmaker had to dumb it down and speed up the film for the berms and slow it down for the air time. It doesn't look right, like a poorly dubbed film. Just give us normal playback speed please!
i really fail to see what is it you lemmings don't comprehend about actual, tangible reality.
it's REAL, you know.
what did i say? i'm done with this discussion, you bunch of babies wipe your own ass or perish, ain't anyone gonna do it for you.
You then go on to equate getting neg propped on PB to your house being on fire. I'm sorry it affects you so badly, but if that's the case I think you would benefit from therapy, because that would generally be considered an overreaction.

"Not ridden by Brage Vestavik".... EVER !!!!
Unreal riding - without backflips triple tailwhip tuck no hander windshield tricks...

For all you young people, just do a Google search.
I guarantee the ground actually shakes when he rides like that.

Good Job, Brage. Perfect balance of jaw dropping insanity and pure stoke. Who doesn't want to ride after watching that?
That says it all.
I feel sorry for that bike. He must get a new bike for every ride? So savage!
Brage: "Hold my beer."
Brage "ja"
Two thumbs up from us
Awesome!
Absolutely stunning video, awesome job, and thank you for the content
How can this be freeride without a ski-mo drone goggle opening?
Is this moto?
