Pivot didn't do anything - so let's give them a feature for doing nothing other than paying for ads - Pivot and YT loooove their ad placements - even when it makes no fuckin sense...
@MTBlegand @AutumnMedia Fair point that a new paint job maybe shouldn't have been included, but it was a bit of a slow month for tech to be honest. Just to be clear: Pivot isn't paying for placement, and we label sponsored stories.
constant bitching about 'new standards' or 'changes common too fast/ruining resale'. Here Pivot keeps it the same, more bitching. Can't win on Pinkbike
Pivot needs to step up their color game... same goddam colors every year in all the same bikes. Last year the Phoenix was blue and yellow.. now it’s the exact same blue and red that’s on the switchblade!!!! Do something different!!! please!!!!
It's not Pivot's fault they ordered 23550 gallons of blue paint and 23550 gallons of red instead of 2355 gallons of each! Gotta use it up before it goes bad!!
Handmade carbon? Please explain- was it hand weaved on a loom by a guy with a SRAM Mustache and tattoos or was it hand made like every other carbon frame?
Like you can see in some ebikes most resonable thing is to keep freewheel as it is, just add that crankset, the result is awesome.. you can see your chain moving only when pedaling... thats nice for trial moves!
This is an old and failed idea. Drop your chain and things get ugly fast. Ratchet friction at the front has to be appropriately balanced with derailleur spring tension at the back, otherwise the top run of the chain gets slack.
Easy shift system primary benefits = less sprung weight in the rear hub, plus freewheel system packaged in larger area where the parts can be bigger and more durable. Shifting while coasting seems like a side benefit.
I'd guess there's a lot of extra drag since it's basically a fixed gear and when you coast your momentum keeps the chain moving and turning the cassette/chainring. I'm not sure how much sprung weight you're really removing when all you've done is replace the freewheeling mechanism in the hub. You still have that big cassette back there. I'm pretty sure I saw a video of this system and when the rear wheel was coasting (the bike was in a stand) the cranks started turning so there's clearly some inherent drag in the system.
I was just thinking yesterday that 500$US was a LOT of money for a single crown suspension fork ~20 years ago. I know as much as anybody how far the tech has advanced since then, but still. Man. More than twice the money these days for something decent. Are we having twice the fun? Hmmm
@DavidSA: To be fair, $500 twenty years ago is more like $800 today, and then there's the increasing complexity of the forks. We all know today's $1k forks are leaps and bounds ahead of the old top-end stuff.
@gibbon-on-an-orange: You can't really compare the 2001 and 2017/18 Civic, now it's grown almost 0.5 meters and got 50% more power. If you compare the new and 10 years old VW Golf GTI the price is maybe 20% up. But for the cycling tech you can see the prices going up with each new generation.
Just popped on a 2018 trek slash 9.8. Patiently waiting 3/20/18 to go out and play. Sizing was difficult but putting on hundred and 25 mm dropper post and a shorter stem on a large frame
2001 Civic Type-R - ~£16/17k.
2017 Civic Type-R - £31k+.
My top spec DH fork back in '06 was £700. That barely gets you a decent single crown these days.
Tech improvements and inflation have a cost across the whole consumer market.
>Are we having twice the fun? Hmmm
are you buying fun or new better features?
also inflation
But for the cycling tech you can see the prices going up with each new generation.
Common sense says if it looks ugly don’t make it shiny.
