PRESS RELEASE: World Wide Cycling Industry Standards Association
The World Wide Cycling Industry Standards Association (WWCISA) has today announced that all major bike manufacturers have entered into a gentleman's agreement to implement the new WB01 (Water Bottle 01) standard on all new mountain bikes produced for MY2020 onwards. The integration of this life-changing and record-breaking industry-wide accord will be rolled out over the next few months as MY2020 bikes start to be launched.
The WB01 standard states that all future mountain bikes must incorporate water bottle mounts in a bid to stop incessant online whining, trolling and bitching. Industry-chiefs previously sought to provide solutions to the question asked by discerning enduro riders: "Does it have water bottle mounts?" Providing elegant solutions such as flexible plastic bladders in backpacks, bumbags and bib-short liners to help industrial designers and engineers produce the most efficient and aesthetically pleasing bikes on the market without needing to cater for the water bottle have been totally in vain.
Kiss goodbye to non-compliance.
Growing ever-tired of the constant flame war online and at the trailside, the industry has pulled together to create WB01. With the intention of improving on the current water bottle mounting system, industry-chiefs collated their vast experience and knowledge to create the new standard.
Bottle cage mounts are now 69.99mm apart (an increase of 5.99mm from the current 64mm spacing) to reduce torsional flex and potential rider-interference when the bottle is at maximum capacity. The extra length means that bottles can be wider, growing from the current 73mm standard to 79.99mm in diameter (an increase of 6.99mm). Rough calculations estimate that you'll be able to ride for 20-minutes longer with the additional H2O capacity of the new WB01 bottle. The new standard is not backwards compatible with the old system, however.
Bikes like YT's 2018 Capra are now obsolete and illegal.
While some may hark that this new standard will render all previous cages, pumps, mounts, bottles, accessories and bikes obsolete, the clear benefits of WB01 outweigh any negative impacts. To help transition the whole industry to WB01 in the most timely fashion, production and sales of all old, non-conforming water bottles, cages, pumps and other accessories will cease immediately. There will be a trailside amnesty for all non-conforming products, and riders are urged to comply or they could face heavy penalties.
In a move to make sure all brands conform to this heavily-enforced standard, a fine of up to $1,000,000 per model of bike sold not complying to WB01 will be applied, and all future bike models and designs will have to be designed using the Trek Session-Template1 (TS-T1) to guarantee sufficient room for the larger WB01 bottle.
Pricing for WB01 bottles and mount kits start at £100 / €100 / $100 and will be available to purchase from today.
