New Intense 29er Carbon DH Bike Spotted - Crankworx Whistler 2017

Aug 16, 2017
by Brian Park
SPOTTED Intense DH29 Proto

We spotted this stealthy carbon Intense here in Whistler. It looks like Jack Moir has a new whip. Will we see him on it for Cairns or Val Di Sole? More info as we get it.

SPOTTED Intense DH29 Proto
The alloy version that Jack has been racing up until now has between 180-200mm of travel, so it's highly likely that this new machine has similar numbers.

The alloy lower link has grease ports for easy servicing.

Developed in conjunction with Cesar Rojo, the suspension rate of the new 29er was designed to be linear with a nice supple beginning, solid support at sag, and good bottom-out resistance.

And just like that, it was gone.

Great looking bike, can't wait to see it 30% off online.
  • + 21
Ya but dude it's got an invisible chain
  • + 1
 BUUUURN
  • + 6
Look at the seatpost clamp of Unno and probably "M29" - we will wait forever for that 30%
  • + 7
 Looks better in Aluminium
  • + 15
 30% out of 16 799$ still makes 11k
  • + 15
@RedBurn: Cheaper and better looking than that other carbon unno bike everyone was creaming their pants over
  • + 4
 I like it.
  • - 2
@ViceGrips: and no brakes! And the rear derailleur isn't connected to the shift cable!
  • + 0
@ViceGrips: no grips on the bars, steerer tube not cut...
  • + 12
its great to see a sacrificial brass grease fittings. so when it hits a rock it mushrooms and good luck getting it out !
  • + 13
@viatch: just a guess, but I bet there is some sort of armor that will bolt in place to protect the links as well as the grease ports... This thing is so incomplete, there is likely a lot more to come that we aren't seeing yet.
  • + 3
 @RedBurn: stop crushing dreams lol
  • + 1
He's gunna go fawst without a chain or brakes!
  • + 3
@Hyakian: devinci uses a bolt on skid plate and it's amazingly efficient
  • + 2
I would love to see a 27.5 version of this frame. It's sooo sexy and so few people will be wanting the 29er in comparison to the 27.5.
  • + 0
@viatch: If you can actually hit a rock with that part of this bike you have way bigger issues... stick to hiking and leave the bike for someone that actually rides!
  • + 75
Careless of Intense to leave it propped up against a wall like that allowing you to take decent unobstructed shots of it. Very careless.
  • + 48
Clearly these were spy shots, taken from a camera hidden in a tie clip, after months of recon studying potential shipment routes.
  • + 11
Poor photographer only had so long before the bike rolled away. Good thing he had his US$8,000 camera body and US$2,800 lens handy-dandy and by his side!

Not to roast you Nathan, your work is 1,000,000x better than what I could cook up! And your equipment is drool-worthy.
  • + 2
Pretty sure these were taken on the new GoPro.
  • + 6
This is getting ridiculous. When people get legit spy shots, websites take them down. Then they try to convince us that bikes end up half-built sitting against random walls before someone can grab them. Come on guys, let us keep our "legit" spy shots, and just be honest with us: this was a sneak peak.
  • + 76
Brakeless and chainless... Gwin would approve
  • + 47
But it has air in the tires, so points off for that...
  • + 3
 @Skootur: ooooh burn Big Grin
  • + 4
 GwIntense?
  • + 2
@Stumpy2: I want to see him go intense/DVO but that won't happen.
  • + 3
Pedalless too. Full speed on the saddle.
  • + 3
 Ultimate balance bike
  • + 1
@Skootur: could be N or He
  • + 65
 Looks like an Unno.
  • + 38
Looks like a great bike to session at whistler.
  • + 30
@cuban-b: you are trekking into the all too familiar territory...
  • - 1
 You know it
  • + 16
Cesar rojo is the same engineering in Unno and Intese.
  • + 3
 @viniadhv: really?

flag nicolai12 (Aug 16, 2017 at 14:29) (Below Threshold)
 @viniadhv: Is that true - if so...well, I probably won't buy either.
  • + 7
there is something on the market, that looks like this? Then I dont want it !...kidding, I´d give my left nut for this..
  • + 2
@terreros: it's true. Worked on the 29r. Was in the Dirt mag write up a while back.
  • + 0
 I dun unno!
  • + 4
I think it's looks better than the unno, I'd take just like that, all Jonny Cash baby
  • + 2
@ViceGrips: Agreed. The Unno Ever is one sweet looking bike, but this is really stunning. Best looking Intense I've ever seen.
  • + 2
... and they will kill the good looks with "intense" graphics.
  • + 1
 @darren853: the lower one?
  • + 45
i bet u could fit four of those edc tool kits from one up in that steerer tube
  • + 4
I'm just excited about the bottle cage mounts disguised as grease ports on the lower link!
  • + 37
whoa! awesome! Glad to see Intense isn't looking like Santa Cruz anymore. Can't wait to see how it performs!
  • + 3
Some parts remind me of other bikes but as a whole this one is has its own look.
  • + 1
Specialized demo front end, antidote dark matter shock mount, santa cruz rear end... Intense frankenstein
  • + 33
pinkbike is posting a lot of pornographic material today! that thing is sexy
  • + 4
 Same studio
  • + 2
I'd prefer an hour with that bike - less likely to need medical attention afterwards.
  • + 29
Very nice. Now keep away from the painting department at Intense, before they paint it neon pink with neon yellow decals and neon green components or something.
  • + 25
Colours are like a*sholes, everyone's got a favourite....... Wait, how does it go?
  • + 9
 Way ahead of you!
  • + 20
Dear Santa Cruz, This is what the Nomad shoulda looked like. Please change it. Thanks! PS. Gorgeous bike. Nice work Intense!
  • + 13
Yeah - Intense is making sick bikes and SC is struggling...
  • + 1
 you're crazy...the new nomad is sexy....its a mini V10
  • + 6
I actually think the alloy prototype looks better. Let's hope Intense don't give up making alloy bikes all together. Meanwhile some details of the frame are very interesting. 1:the lower link axle integrated into the bb shell. 2: the upper link is bolted to a nut integrated to the frame. 3: the internal routing is really internal I don't seem to see it go around linkages like they normally do 4: Threaded bb that's a welcomed feature!

Meanwhile I'm still saving for a 650, am I ever gonna catch up ffs
  • + 2
I don't think this one actually had any cables installed.
  • + 5
Agree 100%, raw alloy is so cool
  • + 1
@bishopsmike: their is cable housing coming out from the very end of drive side chainstay if you look carefully enough
  • + 1
@Stanley-w: I'm just seeing the short plug with the white string, but no shifter cable, and no brakes at all. Be interesting to see what it looks like actually ready to ride.
  • + 3
It looks good but I'm a little bit afraid I like it only because it's new and cool. I'm worried some of these chunky carbon frames aren't going to age well. It's not hard to imagine saying, "oh god, what were we thinking" about this bike and similar designs in the future.
  • + 1
 Done so many times before...
  • + 6
It's plastic, what could possibly go wrong?
  • + 5
 Would you prefer a r3act 2play?
  • + 1
@hamncheez: an alloy one, with 140mm, why not
  • + 7
my first thought when I saw it "holy f*ck!" bikes nowdays are pure porn
  • + 5
Looks great. If you like 29" DH bike, this could be a great option. Now, let the neg props, haters comments begin......ha!
  • + 4
The bikes nice, but no one is talking about the prototype invisible chain. It's taken years of R&D and input from John Cena.
  • + 6
Can't wait to have it colored in avocado green and bubble gum pink.
  • + 7
 That is stunning.
  • + 0
The complete opposite lines of the crappy r3act 2 play whatever stuff. No 'belly' to the downtube. Beautiful.
  • + 1
I've never understood how anyone could ever appreciate those tumorous welds on the M9 and its predecessors.
These new carbon rigs look sexy though!
M16 looked even better than a V10 and this is gorgeous, too. The linkage that shields the damper from mud and dirt looks really smart and I love the feature on the "seat tube". Smart move by Intense on hiring Cesar Rojo from Unno lol... Designwise, the unno is still #1 though.
  • + 5
The raw aluminium definitely looks better
  • + 1
Correct if I'm wrong but, DH electric bikes doesn't exist right ? Haven't seen this kind of bike on the web before.
I'mnot into the e-bikes things, but having a downhill bikes and going on top of hills without effort (and without cable car) could be something cool.
Obviously, the technology needs to improve (batteries and engines too heavy), but who knows... Some day, we could be able to go at the start of the bike parks anywhere on earth without even swetting.
  • + 1
 Take a look at Haibike.
  • + 5
Who's ready to be $8500 poorer?!
  • + 9
6 months later it will be 40% off at jenson
  • + 3
@hamncheez: That is false! It will be 42% off then 62% off after Intense discontinues it in 2 years or less.
  • + 1
@hamncheez: I bet they'll make so little of them and only in carbon, the price will hold.
  • + 1
since my stoke is so high for this frame I am compelled to add my two cents, I think if I had to relate it to a bike id say it looks most similar to a dark matter or possibly even a little bit of the wilson. I think a big part of that is due to where the bulk of the weight is located on the bike. I hope we see more dh bikes with such a low centralized cg, this is my most anticipated dh bike in development right now and hope they release it in alu and carbon! Also have to give a shout to how sweet it is to have two legendary designers coming together to bring us a new frame to market that looks like the most promising 29er to date. Cant think of another frame that has been developed like that before and I hope we see more development like this in the future. Really looking forward to this thing being released! Something to think about, it looks like the lower link hangs down like the old bronson, this being a vpp bike I wonder if they will recess the bottom link into the swing arm like the current gen bronson.
  • + 4
if there's anything a 29" DH bike needs it's definitely 2" riser bars.
  • + 4
No surprise if it is Jack's bike, he likes to run a really tall stack height.
  • + 4
That looks beautiful. Great work intense tup
  • + 3
UNNO DH bike and now this. Are we on brazzers.com ???
  • + 3
them grease nips are in the danger zone
  • + 4
grease nips in the danger zone??? don't threaten me with a good time Wink
  • + 1
Exactly what I thought, I recently broke one on my Nissan Patrol so I cringed when I saw those so exposed to rocks...
  • + 3
OMG great looking bike, soo clean
  • + 3
A good looking Intense? Must be a typo.
  • + 31
Nah, I'm sure they'll ruin it with some size 4000 intense logo in a thrilling neon and dog vomit green when it comes into production.
  • + 8
Que the Carbine paint crew. (Funny clown music playing)
  • + 13
 @lubb1: Thanks for the inspiration.
  • + 2
@lubb1: Please provide CMYK or RGB values for 'dog vomit green'.
  • + 4
@iamamodel: Pantone colors would be preferable, we want a solid match.
  • + 2
 @intensegraphicsteam: Sorry, computer nerd here.
  • + 2
Just wait until the production version in piss yellow and shit brown
  • + 4
 Very nice
  • + 2
Damn. This is one of the best looking downhill bikes I've ever seen to be honest. Cesar rojo knows how to design a bike!
  • + 1
I concur extremely best looking 29er
  • + 2
Looks lean and clean... almost like a kids strider bike.
  • + 1
Please, please @intensecyclesusa make a 27.5 version of this as well! It looks 10 times better than the m16
  • + 1
looks ok, still was thinking for a second that someone did the chain through/inside the swing arm but i guess not
  • + 1
Good looking bike for a big 29" wheels. Nice lines, it´s way more modern than previous bike.
  • + 0
"can you milk me Greg?" Is my second thought about those zerks. The first being, that placement is going to make for some dirrrrrty nipples.
  • + 2
It looks as though it is made of fire and hatred... I MUST OWN IT!
  • + 1
CESAR ROJO !!!!! Go man go !!!! Hip hip hurra !!!! Kudos from València (Spain)
  • + 2
It seems as though nothing could stop that bike... 29er dh with no brakes
  • + 1
I like the no grips, no brakes, no chain approach--gotta compete with Gwin somehow I guess
  • + 1
you think it's beautiful? just wait for the paint job... you'll fall in love
  • + 5
Or you'll puke your brains out.
  • + 1
@Dallll: lol - high probability based on recent history.
That bike murdered out (so 2014) would be a heart stopper in person though.
  • + 2
 Repeat after me: "Production Sneak-Peak"
  • + 1
Nice pice of art. love the clean look from the drive side
  • + 1
The alloy prototype looks much better!
  • + 1
 Cesar Royo is Keyser Soze.
  • + 1
awesome looking bike! cue disgusting graphics in 5, 4, 3........
  • + 1
that's why I love mountain bikes so much.
  • + 1
 really looks stunning!! ♥♥
  • + 1
No brakes and no grips? That must be the secret!
  • + 2
 Yeah!
  • + 1
Sick, pretty bike! But i hate 29er
  • + 1
Flip flop and you don't stop
  • - 1
Not a fan of this at all and I thought the alu prototype looked incredible. This back is going to get laughed at in the future.
  • + 1
Bikes are getting to be the size of mx bikes.
  • + 1
The alu prototype looks better. Awkward. ????
  • + 2
 like Keyser Soze
  • + 1
Coming soon to a Mountain Equipment Co-Op near you...
  • - 1
Never seen a more dump position for the grease ports, hit one rock and they are gone.
The rest of the bike ist sooooooo sweat ;-)
  • + 1
but how do you make adjustments to the rear shock?
  • + 1
 'looks like an evil'
  • + 0
Yeah it does a little bit!
  • + 0
THAT' REALLY GOOD LOOKING BIKE !!!
  • + 0
Seat angle is steeper than the silly slack recumbent Carbine.
  • + 0
Nice looking frame....might even have room for a water bottle!
  • + 1
 Tires?

Maxxis Shorty?
  • - 3
M16 looked like a V10 now this looks like the Unno Ever and the Antidote Darkmatter. Although Intense aren't hand crafted quite like those two. Used to love Intense Bikes til the M16 came out...
  • + 0
The allow version looks better, but the carbon frame is interesting.
  • + 0
Pick a wheel size and be a dick about it
  • + 1
 The hype is real !
  • + 0
M3 and M6 were better. Last of the big bikes.
  • + 1
 Looks like a darkmatter
  • + 0
Another version of Specialized Demo 8
  • + 1
Exactly my thought! I even thought they got the picture messed up Smile
  • + 0
 VPP Stealth. Interesting.
  • + 1
 Well, this is a beauty!
  • - 1
 That shit,its pure crap man
  • - 1
Would Look great If you were to take about 3" off of the wheel Diameter.
  • + 3
You won't admit it, but big riders look pretty stupid on a 26er (which is what I'm on, cos I ain't big).
  • + 1
@BenPea: Ehh.. I'm a bigger/fatter rider. And i like riding 26", but I also dont ride competitively, so its all about the fun factor for me.
  • + 1
@MOWtown: that's cool, not disputing it, but check out the old vids of minaar or peat on a 26er and it looks pretty weird. It's all about proportioning.
  • - 3
 Looks like a Polygon!
  • - 2
looks like I'm alone thinking it's an ugly bike...
