GoPro Double Down is the latest (and largest) addition to the Bike Park at Canyons Resort. It was designed to feel like a trail that you typically wouldn't see in a lift serviced bike park. As the name implies it is filled with mandatory airs and doubles, that just get bigger and bigger all the way down. This trail is the brainchild of Bike Park Manager Steve Duke, and Events Manager Darren Muehlhaus, and was directly inspired by some of the legendary trail networks in the Pacific Northwest such as Black Rock and Post Canyon. In order to raise additional funds for the trail, Steve and Darren reached out to GoPro with the idea of sponsoring a signature trail, and they were quick to come on board. Construction started in June, and the trail officially opened last weekend. Props to the trail crew at Canyons for making such a huge push to get the trail done this year! It is a much anticipated addition to the bike park, and the Utah gravity scene overall; and will definitely be a benchmark for Canyons Bike Park for years to come!
NOTICE- Mandatory Air Required. Canyons Resort is pushing the limit of what a bike park trail consists of with it's latest addition, GoPro Double Down. Props to GoPro and Canyons Bike Park for partnering up and making this trail happen.
This is the first mandatory air on GoPro Double Down. It can be a bit intimidating at first, but the set up, drop, and distance is perfect for the speed of the trail. Cody Kelley makes it look easy.
Full speed ahead for the mega train... Once you drop you can't stop.
The middle of the trail is a massive berm garden littered with mini doubles. If you like fast and flowy trail it doesn't disappoint. Alex Andrews and Jeremy Jones, all smiles, all day.
Cody Kelley and Joey Foresta, berm to berm to berm to berm. This section of trail keeps you more horizontal than vertical for sure.
This is the only drop on the trail with a safety bridge. Eric Porter plays it extra safe by taking his hands of the bars.
The drop sets you up perfectly for this step up, which is easily one of the best features on GoPro Double Down. Cody Kelley sends it with style.
Local snowboard legend Jeremy Jones recently bought a bike and has been up ripping the bike park with his crew almost daily. He casually throws a no foot can over the big step up. Natural style in full force.
If you don't know who Lizard King is you should google him. This dude is one of the most influential professional skateboarders in the game, and a Salt Lake City local. Lizard bought a bike this summer, and has been shredding like a mad man! So stoked to see this guy riding, and he is fired up to be in the dirt! Don't be surprised if you see him in line at your local bike park next summer.
Being on the grind to film skateboarding and snowboarding is one thing, but hiking your bike UP a trail in a bike park is another thing all together. Pro skateboard Lizard King and Pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones are that hyped on shredding this trail. Riding the chairlift takes way too long.
Joey Foresta quietly ripping a corner deep in the Double Down woods at Canyons Bike Park.
Eric Porter weaving in and out of the woods and onto the next drop. The fun never ends.
Another drop? Yes please. Local shredder Derek Thomson likes getting dirty too...
Don't case this one.. Fully boxed in with timber, this jump is not one you would typically find in a bike park. It is perfect at trail speed though, and is one of the best jumps on the trail... as long as you are fully committed. Jess Pederson is fully committed.
The dirt in Utah can get pretty dry and dusty at times, but this entire trail is build on a north facing slope which really helps it stay prime. Bryce Helbling hits the set up jump leading into another mandatory double.
The lower section of GoPro Double Down is filled with dirt jumps style doubles and north shore style drops and Robert McClain is definitely okay with that!
Big thanks to GoPro, Darren Muehlhaus, Steve Duke, Mark Kugel, and the entire trail crew at Canyons Resort for making this happen!
