News: FlyUp 417 Project - Opening Date Announced

Oct 8, 2015
by Pinkbike Staff
To end the speculation and rumours, FlyUp 417 Project have announced the official opening date for the park... Monday 14th March 2016. Keep your eyes peeled for your opportunity to book in your ride at the 417 Project once the booking calendar goes live towards the end of 2015.

bigquotesWe are super excited to announce that we can finally give you the news you have all been waiting for... the 417 Project will officially be opening its gates for business on 14th March 2016. We were desperately hoping to open this year, but sadly due to numerous factors this will just not be possible. We know everyone - including us - is eager for the 417 Project to open but thanks to the worst August on record, the rain has hindered the track building massively. We had days where Architrail - even with their best efforts - just couldn't get the diggers on the hillside. Good old British summer! We want things to be at their best for you all when you come to ride and with the estimated completion date for the tracks now being smack bang in winter, opening in the Spring will give the tracks time to settle ready for you all to enjoy properly. On top of this we have a few exciting things things in the pipeline which will add so much to our facility but have equally added to the timescales although we can't say much at this stage. All customers that pre-purchased their passes through the Indigogo campaign will be contacted separately to make your booking, and those with the 'exclusive access tickets' will receive their date options in the next few weeks. And finally, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for details of our Launch Party. We will have a limited amount of tickets up for grabs, and you won't want to miss out. We want to thank everyone for their continued support and patience, we guarantee that it will all have been worth the wait in the end. Here's to the final straight! The end and beginning is well and truly in sight! - FlyUp 417 Project

ABOUT FLYUP 417 PROJECT
Located just outside Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Flyup own 100 acres of private land, making it the biggest privately owned mountain bike facility in the country to date. The park will be home to three downhill tracks from blue to red/black grade, and supported by the FlyUp uplift service. The park will also have a national-level 4X track and Dual Slalom run, which will be supported by the country’s first MTB Drag Lift service. If that's not enough the park will also feature a jump bag, freeride area and one acre dirt jump arena. For those seemingly more frequent rainy British days and dark winter nights, the 417 Project have two separate indoor riding barns totalling over 1100 square metres. They'll also be a café, bike shop and workshop on site.

North west? How far away from North Wales are you up there then? Surely Bike Park Revolution and Antur Stiniog are close enough to warrant visits.........

I live on the wirral (birkenhead), if yall ever want a lift send me a message and we'll have a great day out riding!
  • 1 0
Yes we do need this here.

A) because it's a 10 minute ride away from my house, and it's all about me of course and

B) as much as people say that we need to be returning to natural tracks, we actually have a fair bit of that in the locals around here and even many of the trsil centres lack big berms and flowy jumps.

 @curtaincarot

along same lines, if u ever comin up Gisburn / Cockhills, gimme a shout if u ever short of company Smile

It may seem BPW and 417 are close but I totally disagree, I'm from the Midlands 417 for me will be 1 hour door to door...BPW is at least 3 1/2 If not more.

I plan to go 417 regular, wouldn't be out of reach to ride 417 every week in theory...BPW is a whole other story not managed to get there yet...I'm probably taking 8 hour round trip with loading, unloading etc!

So yeah very welcome!!

 Warney?!

Make a weekend out of it with a night out in Merthyr Tydfil in the middle. It will be the hardest core thing you do all weekend and is not to be missed out on!

Agree, somewhere like Leeds is crying out for something like this. There's the odd places around like Wharncliffe, Parkwood Springs,Temple Newsam, Hebden Bridge, Sherwood Pines and a few others. They're all fairly decent but most are pretty limited if you want to push yourself & in my case all are at least 20/30 miles away. We desperately need some investment from the Councils, or something like what they've done here in Cheltenham on Private Land.

A FlyUp 417 Project in the Leeds area would go down a storm,. Instead I have to drive at least 60+ miles to places like Dalby, Gisburn, Lee Quarry, Whinlatter or even further away to Wales or Scotland, Would love something a bit more 'on the doorstep' .
  • 2 1
Start crowd funding or something. The council won't have the budget for anything like this. 417 is all private investment. This is also the reason there are so many golf courses around. Golfers clubbed together bought land off farmers and now have private golf courses. The trouble is I bet none of you have the will or stamina to start anything up like this, let alone see it through. Unfortunately mountain bikers (especially in the UK) are shouty bunch who think the government should just build trails because we've bought the bikes. One dude even says he wants an uplift local to St. Helens. It's flat!!! Where the hell are you going to uplift to??

Jog on Yorkshire we need parks in the mid south! F#k we haven't got any hills
  • 8 0
designed and built and run by riders for riders.....gonna be epic for sure.
  • 7 0
 New 4X FUCK YES
  • 1 0
What I think is interesting, is that 417 will be the first 'private' bike park in the country, in which case the scope for other private bike parks becomes more likely. Also there may be opportunities for groups of riders to 'crowdbuy' or 'rent' sites. Get organised!.
  • 1 0
Fairly certain Revolution Bike Park is "private"... with a piece of forest privately bought and turned in to an uplift proper downhill centre, owned and run by a small group of people (correct me if I am wrong, but I am fairly certain of it).... either way, yep it is a good sign that these things are financially viable!
  • 1 0
Cockhills is privately owned too Wink
  • 3 1
Looking forward to it, only 20 mins from my house.
More places to ride is always good.
Who wants to build stuff up north?? It's grim up there.
  • 1 0
I'm super excited about this. just an hour from me, in the car, and most everything you could wish for! I'll be bringing all 3 of my bikes methinks!!
  • 2 1
You southerners might have the Forest of Dean ....BPW..... Fly up 417 ...... In the Midlands weve got Cannock ...using the Shanks's pony uplift service na na ...
  • 1 0
the whole of wales is on our doorstep bro there are better places to ride than the chase you just gotta expose and prepare to travel simple. for 2 hrs with ya foot down.
  • 1 0
It's still an hour and a half to two hours from me man.
  • 1 1
Under cover area as in a dirt jump area that's Under Cover As apose to being fully indoors......... My fault for assuming that any intelligent person could realise that's what my comment implies...... Derp
  • 1 0
Great to hear the news, having tried myself to get lanning in the area, they have done well and wish them all the best. Plus our shop is a 2 miles away. @slam69
  • 1 0
Used to ride at your place in Cranham during the BDRA days, gutted it went south, my riding has never been the same since!

Stoked! I've been wondering what happened to this. 15 mile down the road from me. I'm inbetween this and FoD. Can't wait to smash the Capra there.

  • 1 0

  • 2 0
Rideable from my house, happy days
  • 1 0
Ha ha don't knock the pie eating IT managers their money keeps places like this going Wink
  • 1 0
Now i'm glad I live in Bristol!
  • 3 2
yes at last, bike park wales must be getting worried
  • 5 0
I can't see BPW being that worried- the fact you have to wait ages for an uplift shows they're pretty busy. Having another facility like this within striking distance is good for the local scene. You can't have too many trails.
  • 2 1
or not enough of an uplift service.
  • 1 0
They got seven bus on at bike park and it still busy there
  • 2 0
having two parks this close together is only a good thing for all parties involved. more to ride = more reason for people to a) want to visit and b) make a day trip into a weekend trip, stay at local accommodation etc...
  • 3 0
also, 3 downhill trails? this isn't going to be in the same league as BPW, it'll be far better for dirt jumpers though!
  • 4 2
its all those LAZY enduro guys not having the balls to cycle up hill that puts BPW in my bad books!!!
  • 4 0
Lol at the idea that BPW is a DH venue. Not sure why everybody on a trail/enduro bike should pedal up so that there's more room on the uplift for those with triple clamps and a sense of entitlement. Even if you're super fit you're not going to get in as many runs if you're pedalling up. If you are training for enduro then the uplift means you can concentrate on what matters - descending. If you're a pie eating IT manager the uplift means you can get in more runs with your mates. Besides, any serious DH rider is going to go to Revolution or book on something like a Pearce uplift in my opinion.
  • 1 2
HAHA considering this post is all about a DH venue and everyone keeps going on about BPW thats why i mentioned it.I myself wouldn't be going because the lack of uplifts and way to many (pie eating IT mangers on the uplifts) but hay each to there own if people want to waste valuable endurance training on a uplift carry on. Just hope this place doesn't fall in the same factor and all you enduro boys have BPW all to yourselfs
  • 4 0
We're all mountain bikers- the whole Enduro Vs DH thing is basically like Man City fans hating Man Utd fans- they both like football but instead of embracing their similarities they instead focus on the fact they support a different team and use that as a basis for hatred! It's backwards. Rather than moan about people who ride a slightly different bike or are a bit chubby, just realise they're like you- out to have fun on their bikes. Focus your energy on sh*t that matters.
  • 2 0
@discojoe why hate on BPW? it's a great facility, great PR for the sport, a fantastic place to start and progress at the sport and there are plenty of very good mountain bikers who ride there often, you see laurie greenland there all the time! also, valuable endurance training wasted on an uplift? Maybe you actually are training for an enduro, like the ones in france or italy, or the trans savoie? where the majority of the climbing is done asssisted, in which case spending all day smashing out laps downhill on a short travel bike is exactly the kind of endurance training you need. BUT it's been here long enough now, and caters for new riders! therefore it's soooo mainstream and uncool, not like my back yard trail that's totally been built by Dan atherton and is super gnarly brah
