Video: Night Time Shred - Tom and Ruby

Dec 4, 2014
by Pinkbike Staff

Tom & Ruby rode a lot back in the summer. But now the nights have drawn in, you'd expect the shredding to stop; not for Tom & Ruby. Kitted out with her own lights and harness, Ruby the Hungarian Vizsla has been tearing up the trails after dark.

Dogs don't need lights though. My dogs have many kilometres of night rides under their paws. One hated coyotes and would try and chase them. Another would stay really close when coyotes were around. Love dogs on a ride. They are so happy then.

It's true that dogs have great night vision but it's still not as good as in daylight the light gives Ruby the confidence to run ahead at the same speed as if it was day time, she can follow without it but we find she doesn't have as much fun!

I know people love riding with dogs.. that's cool. I just don't get it or am comfortable riding with them. Just another moving obstacle to hit, or always worried about a paw or nose in the wheels. I'd hate to be riding with a buddies dog and be going for my line and have their rad dog get a nose caught in my wheel. Yup I may go for a tumble too which I wouldn't be to happy about, but I'd feel sooo gutted for the dog Frown
If you're a dog owner on the trails just please be aware of this. It's not that we dislike your dog or dogs on trails. We just don't want to see them hurt that's all Smile
Agreed though... pretty sweet video.

We've not found anyone's wheel she can't hold with ease! Even when we get to the fireroads we have clocked her at over 30mph!

I'm riding with a Lupine Wilma 7 on the bars and a Lupine piko 4 on the helmet, Ruby has a Piko 4 as well but with a diffuser to spread the light as much as possible for her!
