This summer has seemed like a never ending bike trip. As soon as I am done one thing, it is on to the next. Fortunately the next thing up was a Mace gear photo shoot in a place called Blue River B.C. Granted, Blue River is not the biggest town in the world, but from what I was hearing there has been some awesome activity on trail building and I was pretty pumped to go see what had been going down.
Pics and video inside! So Hoots and I and Derek the photographer grabbed the Norco van and headed up country. After a truck stop hot dog and some 6 odd hours of driving we were there. Now the beauty of this trip was even though it was short, we got to stay at the Mike Wiegele helicopter ski resort in a 5 star chalet. Alex from Alias Lab hooked this one up for us. This place was nice!
We got to bed by 3 am and were up on the trails by 10 and ready to go. The two trails we were fortunate enough to ride were called Camel Toe and Roller Toaster both constructed by Jimmy the master. These trials are AWESOME! They are kind of a secret too as there is only a handful of mountain bikers in Blue River but my god are they awesome. This was real mountain biking with big stunts, loamy ground and everything was super fresh. The trails were some of the most fun I have hit up in years. Our day photo shoot went well and we came in for dinner roasted, but with some choice images.
Now here is where it gets really cool. We did a night shoot. Jimmy and Alex took one section of trail and Strung lights all through the forest. I mean middle of nowhere forest and we did a night shoot. This was awesome! A step up, step down along with a skinny section to a drop were all part of our night session. This produced some super sick pictures and I think really pushed the trip over the edge. I can't wait to see what came out as far as a film segment too. To be honest though, it was a super long day as we didn't get out of the forest until around 2:00 AM. But it was super cool.
Mace Team riders Kobra and Hoots in Blue River:
The next day went a little slower with some basic product shots and then we fired up the Norco rig and got back on the road to b-line it to Vancouver.
That was the best commercial I've ever seen, I didnt even want to change the channel..... maybe once when they were doing the time lapsed shots of them driving and eating....hardly ever see that in a vid. All and all it makes me want to ride at wiegllyels place.
I agree totally. BR is some of the best riding in BC and Jimmy has the trailbuilding dialed. I was there a couple years ago and every summer I want to head back up there. Cameltoe FTW.
hoodlum, brule was just posting this stuff hw came across somewhere. he wasnt riding or anything, or even there. and i think kobra is a knick name, as is hoots (i think? i cant find his real last name though...)
i remember reading somewhere though that its just a nickname, but he uses it like a real name though. i cant find i now though... and it was credible. for some reason i recall it being his site or an interveiw he did
no his nickname isn't Korba I've ridden with him and met him so I'd know (he likes to go by Dylan but I call him bermflurr which is a name we came up with at VPS fest at Silverstar this year)
I can't find it here!!!
