"Those who deserve to know, know." This was the response by a prominent North Shore figure when asked about the secret trails on the Shore. To someone who grew up riding The Shore, riding the usual suspects is like going out with Pamela Anderson, only you've been with Pamela for fifteen years, and though she still blows your mind, you've secretly started seeing another girl, Megan Fox. Who's new and exciting and not necessarily better than Pamela, just different in a really cool way.
Lots of pics and a few words that won't help you find the old trails inside,

Remnants of secrets past

Slowly getting reclaimed by the forest

Waiting for able hands to nurture it back into gnar-ness.

Most so-called secret trails aren't really secrets, they're just really hard to find. Like "Digger", a sick old school skinny trail. Where is it? I couldn't tell you if I wanted to. Just happened upon it one day, and I haven't happened upon it for a long time now.

Before there were trail builders, there were loggers. Good luck finding one of these with a tree on top of it.

Before there were crowds and a full-time Park Wardens patrolling the place, there were
legends like Johnny Smoke, poaching the shit out of whatever they wanted.

Now there are homeless dudes racing DH on shopping carts...

...and builders who build at night when no-one's around.

Can't stop progress.

Secret light.

Secret slash.

Secret hit.

For those that 'know', know that most of these secret hits and pieces of trail were
really put up for one main purpose: To show the world the radness of the Shore through
photos and video. And to keep everyone happy, most times the stunts get torn down
after they're shot.

So sit back, relax, and just enjoy the show.

And for all those that really want to know where all the secrets are kept, go find and ride every single one of the all-time classic legit trails, and by the time you're done, you'll know too.

Chayse Marshall, ripping up one of the new-style, natural, legal trails on Fromme.

Tippie, riding a section of trail that most never try because there's an easy way around, on likely the most famous trail on the Shore: CBC

Just another legal riding zone, that doesn't usually get ridden, in between Mount Seymour and Grouse.

Happy hunting.
If you missed part one,
check it out here.
Check back in a few days for part three in the series on Vancouver's North Shore.

Sidenote - I've hiked old lines and 4 - 5 years after they've been disused - the greenery returns. 10 - 12 years later and its hard to find the line through the ferns, salal etc - the forest is amazing.
Great to see Smoke getting some props, and Tippie doing his thing. And Wade (?) chilling on top of some ladder awesomeness.
Not to sound like a skipping record, but absolutely ACE photo write-up!!
@Speakerboy, amen bro.
really put up for one main purpose..." wow really? You can't even get the quote right, not to mention that it's simple grammar? People are "who," things are "that."
Of course I put my commas and periods inside of quotes because that is the correct way to do it, just as you did in your last comment.
Did you even graduate from high school, or did you drop out to shred some sick gnar with your brohans instead?
Oh and leelau, I never said anything about having an English major, I'm just a grammar enthusiast.
please more of them :-)
