by Casey & Scott
The NW Cup kicks off the 2011 race season bigger and badder than ever! We are proud to add a new venue to our series at Skibowl, Mt. Hood for 2 of the 5 rounds. Anyone who’s been there knows that Petr Kakes and his Hurricane Racing crew host a top shelf event on a mountain that provides REAL downhill action!

For the third year in a row, we will be kicking off the season with the opening round of the Pro GRT the weekend before the Sea Otter Classic, priming the region for a “World Cup atmosphere” once again.Check out all the action in the NW Cup Photo Gallery.

With a new venue, new tracks, and a reputation for a world class race experience, the 2011 NW Cup race season is not to be missed!

  • Round 1(Pro GRT) Dry Hill, Port Angeles April 7-10
  • Round 2 Dry Hill, Port Angeles May 13-15

I've seen lots of conflicts so far this year. Like Nationals and Crankworx, last I heard they were at the same time.

bring back Jones Creek!! Bring back Willamette Pass!! Can't wait to have some real new places to race. I love racing PA but it would be nice to race someplace truly new, a track that no one has an advantage on. hope to race this year now that my knee is fixed!!

willamatte is doing races again next year, but they will most likely be part of the OBRA dh series.

I agree with Vic. Mix the series up. The current venues are great. Yet it would be a true test of racers abilities on four different courses. I am super pumped to race it the way it is though.

Upon talking with the organizers, that is the longer term goal. Last year there were 2 series and this year they more or less merged. I am sure that you'll see 1-2 more states involved in the coming years.

that is awesome that WP is bringing back racing! who is going to be promoting it? Goat? LOD? Let me know if you need any help with sponsors I will do what I can to help you guys.
That is great that they want to expand the series, we have needed that here in the PNW for years!! the more the merrier

There is also the All Gravity Series. There were 4 different races in Idaho, Moscow, 257, Schweitzer, and Silver Mountain. So as far is the inland northwest goes, there is a good variety of races. Just not in the same series. And is the NW cup the same as the Fluidride cup?

Simon is actually going to focus on teaching rather than race organizing this year, so they are not the same. We heard from the riders last year that they wanted things back together so wha-la. As brule said, once we get a year of racing at two venues in the books, the plan is to add other successful events to the Cup if they so desire. We really are, and have been working our butts off already to make next year the best yet.

Thanks for informing us, and thank you for all your hard work! I have one last question. Out of the 5 races, they're only in two different locations. Do you guys change up the courses? I have never raced in the NW/Fluidride cups so I'm not sure how it works. There's a lot of good riding near the coast so it seems like a waste to only have 2 tracks.

In Port Angeles, we have enough trails so that we can pretty much have a different track for every class at every race. Plus we are adding a new line this winter that should even shake it up a bit more. Mt Hood has two main courses and they put little tweaks in them every season. There is a lot of good riding near the coast, but not too many trails that work as tracks, have a nice shuttle road, have parking, and proximity to services. Glad you're giving it a try.

Okay, that makes more sense. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to Port Angeles, but I will most likely do Mt. Hood. Thanks for clearing that up! And again, thank you guys for all your hard work.
