NW Cup 2016

Mar 7, 2016
by Casey & Scott
Year 9 of the NW Cup is creeping up. Another 7 races at four of the Northwest's best bike parks. Dry Hill, Skibowl Bike Park, Silver Mountain Bike Park, and Stevens Pass Bike Park. Once again Dry Hill will play host to the opening round of the USA Cycling Pro GRT, offering up some early season UCI points.

Round 1 & 2 will be at the Dry Hill in Port Angeles, WA with the latter being the UCI/Pro GRT stop.

Then it's off to the battlefield that is Skibowl Bike Park, in Government Camp, OR for round 3, and then later for round 5.

Next we'll head East to Silver Mountain Bike Park for round 4. Only the second year and already a favorite for sure.

Finally, round 6 and 7 (the finals) will land back in Washington at Stevens Pass Bike Park.

To get up to speed, there will be a Spring Training Shuttle Day at Dry Hill on Easter, March 27. Probably an Easter Egg Hunt involved....

Dry Hill trails are the point of reference for what amazing DH trails should be. The best.

Are Skibowl's trails worth riding? I have not been there for many years.

They have enduro races on the same trails if that gives you a comparison. They are fun though

same with dry hill. same with whistler. .,.,., whats your point?

It's actually a pretty legit course. Very high speed up top, techy rock garden and drops in the woods. Yes you can ride an "enduro" bike on the trail but most people will be alot faster and better off on a full dh rig here. That being said Strobel won on a long travel 29er evil. But honestly, how many of us have the skills of strobel. Here's bobby last year in nw cup. You can assess if it's worth riding for yourself.http://youtu.be/fToMW5ZJETk. Be sure to use HD feature.

That it's fun but don't assume it's world cup worthy dh was my point. Trust me, I love those trails, season ticket holder! And I took 2nd in my first race ( last stage was cannonball) on a 29er. I'm no strobel but I'll take 2nd for my first time

I get what you're saying. Strobel won the nw cup dh race on a 29er. Not the enduro race. Which if I did a run (top to bottom) on my Patrol and a run on my 450 I guarantee I would be faster on my 450. Just speaking from my own experience and riding skill.
