The Northwest Cup returned to Stevens Pass Bike Park for round 5 of the series. Although Stevens is under new ownership of Vail Resorts, many things have remained the same. The trails, the people, and the weather. Each year, riders return to Stevens expecting hot weather and dusty trails. This past weekend, the average temperature remained at 77 degrees. With hot weather and no rain, trail conditions became rougher each day. Along with the sun and the heat, spectators and riders were faced with brutal mountain mosquitos. Although bug spray was highly used, the bugs didn't stop.

Quite possibly my worst showing ever at a NW Cup race, but still had a great time seeing the community again and spending the weekend with my favorite peeps. I know several racers had some bad crashes, including me, and I wish everyone a speedy recovery. Thanks for another great event!!

Great time up here. My 6yro son's first race and we had an utter blast. Maybe coolest part was that everyone was really really cool and helped us out, gave advice and was cool to my kid. We were on the slow side of cat3 0-10 but hey the little dude was on a hard tail and was still stoked to just be part of it all and ride hard 3days. Any parents on the fence should certainly signup even if it's just one race.

@mbrand721: where has the sack of today’s men gone? My years riding in the Colorado and New Mexico Rockies at elevation I never once had a heat issue. Oregon, land of the flakes that fall from the sky in winter, apparently. I’m ready to get down voted, has never bothered me, never will!
  • 1 0
@CaliCol: I'm not worried about it. When I head back up there to race, I'll be conditioned and ready for the "heat", giving me an advantage.
  • 3 0
@CaliCol: Questioning anyones level of “sack” that races at the nw cup is ignorant. Have you rode ski bowl? You gotta have sack just to ride the chairlift, let alone the trails.
  • 1 0
@olddude: TRUE. I’m honestly not sure if the lift or Cannonball was scarier

@mbrand721: just a reference to temperature, not the terrain haha
