Medellin, Colombia's second most important city, holds a fame that many would like to forget, but every story has two sides.
A city which feels like summer all year round is a paradise many envy and is the perfect location for some off season racing. After the Urban DH Cup was over, Polc and Marcelo came to Medellin as guests for a special event held every year which gets bigger and bigger by the time.
This year the race took place in Comuna 13, which one would tell was the infection point for many of this city's problem but now this seems to be almost over and a great opportunity came on for a spectacle many hadn't seen before. Over 70 riders rushed trough narrow alleys full of stairs, sharp turns in an invasion neighbourhood where no architecture and urbanism rules seem to apply. Low rooftops, long balconies and uneven stair sets was the chosen location for this 1:47 min. course.
It's great seeing that the city council could see some potential and got involved in the sport. Marcelo was also of great help trying to get the event out and maybe even one day make this a stop of the City Downhill World Cup.
People were super happy to see the riders bomb down the stairs people walk on a daily basis. Big wooden ramps and bridges to avoid sharp turns were added to the track, making it much more fun and dangerous. Reason why a couple of riders decided not to race but it did not make an impact on many of the skilled riders who went all in and raced against the champion of Urban Downhill.
Until next year - a destination for riders all around the world who love to ride all year long and maybe one day, part of the Urban DH WC.
