The fourth round of the British Downhill Series headed to Moelfre in Wales this weekend. We were all excited to go racing after a couple of weeks off! All of the lads know Moelfre well and were excited to push hard! The weather forecast was mixed, so it was going to be interesting how things would play out.

We decided to head down Saturday morning with Moelfre being quite a short drive from the One Vision base camp. Setting up the pits was exciting this weekend, with our new pit banner thanks to the guys at Media Mill in Saddleworth. After 18 months of operation we feel we’re starting to look pretty good in the pits!

The weather on Saturday was great, and the track was actually dusty! Not like Wales. The lads had great fun smashing runs and were up to speed pretty quick! Jack was fastest in timed practice with the 2.33, George and Will weren’t far behind on 2.37 and 2.38 respectively, and Jamie was gradually getting to grips with the track and finished the day on a 2.44.

Sunday morning started with more sunny skies and a dry track, and the lads took advantage of the good uplift and smashed out 4 more practice runs. The weather was definitely changing for the afternoon and heavy rain was guaranteed. As a result Jack decided to do his final practice run on his wet tyres, cut down Schwalbe Dirty Dans. He wanted to get a feel for them on the hard pack sections that weren’t going to be affected by the rain too much. He was very surprised by how good they felt, and especially by how fast they seemed to roll!

By the time elite category seeding came around at 2pm, the rain was starting. Jamie had managed to get his seeding run done before it started, so he’d kept his Magic Marys on his Nicolai Geometron and seeded 5th with a 2.44. Not much rain had fallen by the time the elites dropped in, but Jack and Will both had their Dirty Dans on ready to go, and George had decided to run a combination, with a Dirty Dan on the front and Magic Mary on the rear. Will seeded in 19th place with a 2.42, feeling like he could go much faster come race runs. George seeded in 7th place with a 2.37. Jack pushed hard as planned, and we were buzzing to see him seed in 1st place with a 2.33. He was excited to see if he could do the same come racing and in the wet!

It rained none stop for the rest of the afternoon, so by the time expert started, the track had been properly watered! Jamie kept his head and managed a smooth run and a time of 2.50 for 4th place. Jamie now leads the BDS expert overall with two rounds left! Unfortunately, Will had issues in his run and ended up back in 20th on a 2.48 and not happy. George felt like he didn’t commit enough because of the change in conditions and was left disappointed in 15th on a 2.45. Jack gave it everything, and pushed all the way to the line with what he said was a perfect run with no mistakes to take 2nd place with a 2.37 only 0.9 behind Matt Simmonds who won Moelfre last year. So he was absolutely buzzing with his best ever BDS result! What a way to start the second half of the season!

BDS Round 4 Elite podium

So we have another weekend off before heading to Lenzerheide for World Cup round 5 next week! The lads are buzzing for it and we excitingly have owner of Mango Bikes and ex-Trek World Racing mechanic Ben Harrison with us as team mechanic, which is awesome!! As usual a huge thank you to our sponsors who are the best!
