I always wonder what happens to all these overpriced bicycle parts, that no one ever will buy and that never show up at RCZ (.https://www.rczbikeshop.com).
Are they going to be scrapped? Will they return in 20yrs as "vintage"?

I cant believe some of these parts will ever be bought, like that XTR 11spd Di2 derailleur...
  • 2 0
So noone who has 11spd di2 gearing could need a new mech? If I'd got the next model up of bike, I'd have had 11spd di2 gearing.

I worked at a bike shop that had a TON of old (like 5-10+ year old) parts that will never be used... They are still trying to sell them at MSRP. When I asked why they haven't just listed them online to free up space, their reasoning is one day someone will need them and they'll have it in stock lol.

 Considering this happened - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_video_game_burial

I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens to bikes, bike parts and bike clothing.
And then we fight over a carbon frame that you'd buy, ride for years and then god forbid not recycle...

I'm not saying it's not important or we shouldn't strive for sustainability, just pointing another problem out, like the posts above.

 @Ryan2949:

I can understand them wanting to hold onto them just incase someone needs that particular part. But after a couple of years nobody is going to pay MRSP for them.
Reminds me recently I noticed my lbs still selling a 9spd XO derailleur for $300. Anyone with $300 to burn on a derailleur is not going 9spd in 2020

@Ryan2949: This is why I have an issue supporting the LBS when I know I can get the same quality parts elsewhere, especially online and on another continent. MSRP, as my friends say, is for dummies. I don't know what the markup percentage is for LBS once they have received the products from their distributors, but I can guess that it's more than 50% on some items if I can get at least 30-60% difference. I understand LBS are just small fish in the big ocean with larger fishes, but don't gouge the customers! Places like TBS in BC is a retailer that I'd support as it's a true competitor to other online bike shops internationally. Their prices are definitely competitive. This is what a true capitalist market is about!

@CSharp: maybe talk to them about price match? Both shops I go to will price match and are happy to do it.
  • 4 0
@chadtague1: The attitude at the shop I worked for was "then go buy it somewhere else". Hated hearing how the owner and other long time staff talked to customers.
  • 1 0
@Ryan2949: Yikes, not very customer-oriented shop! Most shops will try and give the customer at least 10% off. 10-30% off means nothing to them since they're still making a margin. Just making a customer somewhat happy means a returning customer. Sucks when the owner and the staff don't care much about the customers. I can understand if the customer can be a*sholes sometimes, but you have to give the customer the benefit of the doubt to win them over. It's too bad the shop you worked for doesn't budge on their price policy. In this case, it's definitely best to shop around.

@CSharp: Not all LBS's are created equal. A good shop is great to work with. And the few extra dollars you pay (they still have to pay for shipping and inventory too) is totally worth it. The shitty shops, are shit.

Found out the LBS sold my new to cycling girlfriend $40 bar tape for her roadie. WTF? She paid $400 for the bike. And now I know where NOT to send business!
  • 14 1
I don't need any of this crap.
  • 6 0
You don't want an 11speed XTR derailleur for $500? Oh, sorry, my bad - $440.
  • 11 0
It's just evil. These deals are never as intense as they used to be.
  • 10 0
The Cane Creek Helm for $500 is a steal. This fork is a beast.
  • 3 0
Except if you click through it’s $550
  • 3 0
@speed10: Even then, I don't understand how these haven't sold out. They've had them on sale for a while. Is it just that nobody has 27.5" bikes anymore? I can't imagine why otherwise. I ride the same fork in a 29" and it's fantastic.
  • 3 0
@big-red: I don’t even need it but I’m tempted to buy one and build a bike around it. lol
  • 1 0
Right. I got one of these on sale like 2 months ago and have been loving it. A little noisier than my pike but it functions absolute fantastic
  • 1 0
 wrong wheel size though
  • 2 0
@big-red: "Is it just that nobody has 27.5" bikes anymore?"

I think you nailed it there. I picked up a couple of NOS 27.5 Lyrik RC2s for around $300 last fall. It seems 29" trail bikes are what is hot these days and it's really tough to find deals on 29" Lyriks and 36's.

Don't shoot the messenger - I ride 26", 27.5", and 29" and like them all!
  • 2 0
@big-red, I ride 27.5 wheels everywhere but deliberately bought a 29r fork for the flexibility of larger rubber and future front wheel options.
  • 8 1
Brake rotors for 60 bucks.... Quickly before theyre sold out /s
  • 1 0
I just bought some of those from jensen for $45 two weeks ago.
  • 4 0
@RonSauce: $45 USD and $59 CAD are roughly the same.
  • 1 1
@whitebirdfeathers: no after exchange, shipping and duty it's even more. It's funny I don't *feel* 40% less productive than my american coworkers...
  • 2 0
@plyawn: no but you guys make like $300 cad/hr and the perfect health ins system...
  • 2 0
@Doradora: Our health system is a nightmare.
  • 3 0
That shoe + pedal deal is pretty good. Until you go to their site, "1 in stock" click add to cart and get the message "Selected required options are not available."

"Selected required options are not available." Am I still reading that ibis suspension article? This message makes as much sense...
  • 1 0
they're looking into it, it'll be corrected one way or another here shortly.
  • 7 1
Rockshox RS-1: We've got ourselves a deal of the month, folks.
  • 2 0
Except there's no stock. Probably had 1 available.
  • 1 0
Discounts like that make me suspicious
  • 6 0
Who wants a 27.5" XC race fork?
  • 2 0
@whitebirdfeathers: that's exactly what I was thinking. I'm surprised it was even made in 27.5
  • 2 0
Yeah definitely worth 1700 dollars, like my Bobby Orr hockey card. But might get severely, severely discounted, like my Bobby Orr hockey card.
  • 5 0
Ransom was $4999, now $7999. Almost one for the price for two!! Bargain of the decade.
  • 4 1
That 11 speed XTR derailleur price goes beyond “/s” to Nigerian email scam levels of absurdity.
  • 3 0
The Evil gravel bike reminds me of busted old trucks with frame rot that look like they are about to crack in half.
  • 1 0
The mountain bicycle industry in a nutshell: "change to different nominal specifications on every individual bicycle ever made, then be surprised when nobody can buy upgrade parts you're trying to sell"
  • 2 0
I'll take two of the those xtr derailleurs. One extra just in case, since it's such a good deal.
  • 2 0
Can we just leave out the maxxis tires until they get to like $40? These prices aren`t anything groundbreaking...
  • 3 0
Wait, what!? Evil is the new Intense?
  • 1 0
Evil has been featured in this section for months now. They are susceptible to the same tides as the rest of the world. Everything works in cycles, they're go back up again.
  • 3 0
What no one noticed the $2280 price increase on the Range? ????
  • 1 0
Psssst! Calgary cycles might be a little miffed by the before-now pricing issues...
  • 1 0
y'all may have hecked up the prices on the Scott and the Norco at the bottom.
  • 2 0
 What a joke
  • 1 0
 never mind
