Source: Peter Appleton, Sirbikealot Racing.

Where: Kelso Conservation Area (Milton, ON), May 2nd and 3rd

Well the birds are singing, the snow has melted (well most of it) and it's time to get dirty! As with every O-Cup DH season we kick it off at Kelso in Milton, Ontario. This time honored venue is close to the GTA and always has the biggest crowds. Racers are excited to see friends, compare their new bikes and best of all, see who's been training hard in the off season.Race day: May 3rd
Practice day: May 2nd
Super D race day: May 2nd

Super D will make its debut into Ontario this weekend with a course perfect for trail riders, XC and DH racers alike! This fast and flowy course will throw in a rock garden or two, plus a nice climb!

This year's DH course has a couple new treats with a new rock garden at the top and addition of a new rock garden at the bottom. But you aren't getting off that easy, the famed "rock drop" is back and should provide for a challenging course from top to bottom.

Don’t forget to pre-register at:

www.ontariocycling.org

We can’t thank enough our amazing support staff, Lee Allen, Kris Somers (MC/DJ), Allan Hawley and his timing staff, Kelso Pro Patrol and staff (Barb and Simon) and of course the amazing volunteers and sponsors:

Cycle-Solutions.com Bike Store, Lapierre Bikes, Norco Performance Bikes , Kenda Tires, Titec Components, Dropmachine.com, POC Protection, Harveys, Fatlip clothing, Industry Bike park and X-Fusion shocks.

So many people aren't racing this year Thumbs Down Its a shame. Out of probably 30 people that I've talked to only 1 is racing this year...

actually i just checked the pre-registration numbers and we have the most registered riders ever before a race!! should be a killer weekend, great forecast with no rain and sunny both days!

I'm so bumber, booked the weekend off work, got the bike all set, and a place to stay... but of course transportation has to fail. nd being a 6 hour drive to get there, there isn't much to do. opefully will make the next one in horse shoe.

Hey Pete, Hopefully you are going to be standing by the new UCI rules. NO SKINSUITS, AND NO MORE SPD's. Lets see how many people are going to argue these ones, till they are blue in the face.
  • 0 0
SPD's are NOT illegal, skin suits are illegal, helmet visors are also mandatory according to UCI

What are you talking about peach? when you come to this race it will probably have the most people racing at an O Cup ever!
  • 1 0
I'm just saying that 98% of the people that I've talked to that raced last year aren't racing this year. I'm not even racing this year, work and other things are getting in that way.

damn! your not racing this year??!! I was hoping ot see you out in full force this year! Too much time and money spent on getting that rig built and no time too ride, rip it up Alex!!..you gotta be at Fortune dude!

Going to try my best to make Fortune and Blue for sure!!!

good call... i was debating racing kelso, but it's $70 for race day alone, if you need a one day license... for 1 minute 15 seconds of riding?!? blue charges half that for 8 hours of riding...

i think i'll wait for a better race to get my money's worth... maybe i can squeeze 3 minutes out of a race run at fortune or blue... 3 times the value... sweet!

"...plus a nice climb"??? super lame... i'm not excited about that...
  • 2 1
Not lame at all, it is the Super D course that has a nice little climb (not the DH course), all Super D courses have some climbing in them, usually about 85% is gravity fed, the rest is climbing/flat.
  • 2 1
that i'll agree with... regardless the segment of the DH between the rock drop and the first jump is a long gradual uphill... the kelso race has had that the past 3 or 4 seasons... going back to 2005, there was no uphill section; the course with the REAL log gap... that was the best kelso course to date if one were to ask me...
