Overall King & Queen Standings After Crankworx Cairns 2023

Caroline Buchanan

After a week of intense competition across multiple disciplines, we can now see who is still in the running for the 2023 overall titles. With two more rounds to go, it is still all to play for with Bas Van Steenbergen and Caroline Buchanan maintaining a small lead after round two.

Anyone else a little disappointed in the turn out for Cairns? Other than slopestyle, there was hardly any of the current top riders there. I think 4 Crankworks stops is probably 1-2 too many. Seems like slopestyle is the only event that draws the top riders.

I don't no Cairns weather - could they go earlier in the year? At this point lots of people either preparing or fully involved in their dscipline-specific season.

@plyawn: Nov-March is wet season, tropical cyclones, monsoons, etc. And when it's not wet it's stinking hot and humid. This is probably about as early in the year they'd risk putting it.

I really like the idea of Crankworx tbh, multi disciplinary riding. Unfortunately seems like the top only want to focus on one and don't want to risk injury to compromise that. Which I totally get, but would certainly be more entertaining to see some more known name riders competing across all events! For instance seeing Jackson Goldstone compete in Speed & Style at Whistler last year was dope.

Could be to do with how massively far away from anything Cairns is, even Tazzy would be a better location, Gold Coast or somewhere like that would be ideal

Apart from visa and logistics, flights from Denver were about $4,400 USD too.

 Crankworx has become so disappointing.

 Where's Vaea?

Focusing on big air? She was at Darkfest and Freeride Fiesta so that’s my guess.

Think o saw on her ig during darkfest that she has a herniated disc in her back

Per instagram, she was at the Cam Zink invitational, and is really enjoying air time. Darkfest must have been a life changing experience for several of the riders. Further to the turnout question, Australia is also a long way to go for one event if you're not already in the area, so it's not entirely surprising that not too many riders came from Europe or North America especially this close to World Cup.

I can imagine she might also not want to stand on every podium with her ex, but that is just an assumption

Hahaha thanks guys, I appreciate the concern. I’m loving traveling to new places and challenging myself with newer and bigger features on the big bike, or the dirt jumper for that matter… it’s been on my mind for a couple of years to start prioritizing freeride and do Crankworx on the side, rather than the other way around. And it’s definitely the right call for now! So much fun and progression going on.

I hurt my shoulder in January and focused on recovering for Darkfest rather than risking hurting it in Rotorua. And then Cairns I was alsways committing to skipping due to the cost vs reward. Happy to use my time away from Crankworx training and more into learning new cool things on bikes.

And me B dog are 100% friends Smile ) Stoked to see him up and at it.

Cheers!! Let’s go biking!
