15th Annual Hammerfest DH is a go Sunday May 4th

May 2, 2008
by Colin Wilson
In it's 15th year, surviving road building, clear cuts, new courses and more, the Hammerfest Downhill returns this weekend. Come on out to try the course that has launched the likes of Shaums March, Steve Smith, Jordie Lunn and more.

Who will be this year's champion? The Hammerfest course in Errington (just outside of Parksville) should draw quite the crowd as previous races this season on the Island Cup Series has brought mainland riders to sample the island soil.

For those of you wishing to pre-ride the course, the gate is open (broken) so shuttles are optional through till Sunday morning. On Sunday, we'll provide the shuttle in the form of nice warm dry vans! (we don't guarantee freshness though)

Come early as we'll have registration setup at 8am and shuttles start at 8:30am. The Errington Volunteer Fire Department will be cooking up both breakfast and lunch so bring some extra coin for some great food!

Racers this season must be a GRMBA licensed member. This can be paid for through their home club, on race day at registration, or occasional racers can pay $10 for a 1 day race license at the event. CBC, CCA or UCI licenses are not applicable for GRMBA races.

Race fees are $25 including shuttles. Racing fires off at 12 noon. There will be three categories, beginner, intermediate and expert. All beginner category racers will race for free, but must pay for either a GRMBA club license or 1 day event license. There will be prizes for the winners of the expert and intermediate races.

The next Super DH race is in Victoria on Sunday May 11th, and the Cumberland DH is on the 25th.
