Video: Paul Bas Is Back

Aug 25, 2014
by Race Face
Race Face 31.8mm Atlas bars and stems are well known for being among the strongest, and most reliable cockpit available. This season, we've taken the proven performance of Atlas to a 35mm diameter standard - your favorite Atlas bars are now bigger, wider and lighter! Increasing the bar diameter to 35 allows Race Face to shave material from the bar resulting in a dramatic reduction in overall weight (40 grams from the 31.8 Atlas bar) while retaining the stiffness and strength Race Face bars are famous for.

Check out Race Face athlete Paul Basagoitia as he puts the Atlas 35 cockpit through its paces on a jump trail he built in Nevada:

Atlas 35 Stem
Atlas 35 - Stem
The Atlas 35 stem was designed to reduce overall system weight while retaining the proven strength and performance the Atlas line is known for.  Tail whips on big bikes 3

Yeah he did the first I ever saw on a Stinky at Rampage 08. Then Sorge, Aggy and Rheeder. Dunno anyone else who's doing it. Usually on hips but, B does them in a straight line too like in his qualifier at the last Rampage.

he probably woudnt do it on mine. mine super heavy. probably 16 kilos? whats the weight of a top of the line freeride or downhill bike now these days?
dont get me wrong paul really deserves a bike like this and i love this edit. some big senders...
  • 1 0
Paul B did it on a Stinky Air and an Entourage all kitted pretty light like low 30 lbs Rheeder was on a carbon Session again low 30's same as a ss bike.

ok i see. stinkys are looking super sick aswell also they look like pretty small bikes... to bad their first series had some frame issues,, Always wanted a stinky but i am the proud owner of a other dh bike now again
  • 1 0
Stinky's were what used to be called "freeride bikes". The Entourage and now Process 167 both have very short chain stays as does the Voltage Fr in the vid. Slightly easier to whip and spin or so the general wisdom goes as both are way out of my capabilities. The Giant Faith that Sorge has tail whipped and the Trek Session that Rheeder has, have longer Chain stays though the Sesion might have been the park version.
Check the end of this Vid. for Rheeders Tail whipping an 8 inch travel DH bike.

nice to see paul back on the bike and shredding weird to see him not on a kona though. guess they dropped him while he was on the DL... but after you've had that much success riding for a company in a sport like this, seems like they should have signed him on for life

What about Robbie I think he was on an intense in his trail ends part.
  • 2 1
bourdo's been on intense since 2008, almost as long as he was with kona

great to see Paul in action

some years back he judged MBUK's Kona "Slopestyle" competition in Glentress, Scotland and I got to spend some time with him, very down to earth guy...although it was a little cold in Scotland

But don't be fooled by the video--there are much better places to ride. I can't wait to get the f*ck out of this sh*t hole town. Go live in Truckee if you want to ride Tahoe, Reno is not the place.
  • 5 1
idk. I love riding and being in Reno.
  • 1 0
Yeah...I guess it could be worse...like Texas or something. Mostly I just wish there were better jobs here so I could enjoy my time on the dirt here more.

The frame is probably a Scott Voltage FR, but cannot recognize the fork.
  • 1 0
Last years 26" Scott Voltage FR with what looks like an x-fusion metric fork.
  • 3 0
If you pause at 1:05. Both fork and shock are x-fusion and the frame is Scott Voltage FR
