Press Release: Orbea

Max is no stranger to the limelight, he's a content wizard in his own right. In 2023 Max will join The Orbea Commission, focused on generating content and showing what's possible on the Rallon.

Max puts in the work, trains hard, and is the one well-rounded rider. He is currently based in Whistler Canada.

Orbea is proud to have such an amazing human being, rider, and ambassador leading The Commission content project and representing our brand. During Max’s time at Pinkbike Academy, he proved himself as a stylish rider pushing the limits of what can be done on a bike. His creative eye during challenges and endearing personality off the race track are just a few reasons why we are excited to work with him in 2023.

bigquotes“Orbea is excited to welcome Max to the family. After watching Max take each challenge thrown at him during the PBA in stride and with a positive attitude and drive to learn and excel. Orbea can not wait to see how Max continues to grow, as a rider and with the brand. Orbea is excited to have another talent in the Sea to Sky corridor and can't wait to show the world the projects we have in store.”Parker DeGray, North American Marketing Manager

bigquotes“My long-term goals as an athlete are to stay healthy and enjoy it all! I want to continue to improve my technical riding and deepen my bag of tricks! Other goals are to continue to progress as a rider, enjoy the experience and explore more parts of British Columbia, Canada, and the world! I want to continue to challenge myself and others to ride at the best of their ability.”

“I’m excited to work with Gully (Geoff Gluevich) and ride some gnarly lines with the guy! I am also hoping to pick up as much knowledge and learn what I can from him and maybe pressure him to push his riding a bit as well !”
Max Grayston

As a whole, we are beyond excited to welcome Max to the Orbea family and know that he is just getting started in creating a long-lasting legacy in mountain biking. With his unique riding style and content creation skills, we aim to work together on video projects and some other surprises to come! Keep an eye on social media for this guy to see what unfolds.

Why remind us of the dreadful series that was season3 of PBA?
  • 26 0
Doesnt even have a bmx background

reminding is part of the full package. also autoplay

Pinkbike Academy next year should add in single people looking to find love as well as sponsorship. Whistler Village is the ideal location. Just check contestants for STDs first.

Missing a trick here. One of the challenges could be checking for STDs! Think of it like the bike servicing challenge.
  • 2 0
 It's in Sunpeaks next season.
  • 1 1
all those STD's originated in Australia and Quebec. Just sayin'

Wasn’t that the reward for winning PBA?
  • 13 0
Just "an Orbea Sponsorship" IMO they need to separate the competition, or at least decide what it's going to be going into it, which would solve a lot of what people disliked last season. Have a season for an Orbea Race Sponsorship and focus on race times (with a little of everything else sprinkled in), then next season have an Orbea Commission, I guess they are calling it, social media team sponsorship and don't race. Going into PBA and winning everything like Tarmo did and not getting the contract prize sucks for the contestants and viewers.

I thought PBA was supposed to be for racers? or did that change in season 3? I quit watching 5 minutes into the first episode...devoid of all the things that made the other seasons cringy yet watchable.
  • 41 1
I don’t think anyone really knows what Season 3 was supposed to be. Hopefully after watching it Outside has at least figured out what it shouldn’t be.

If I had a drink every time they said "we're looking for the whole package, not just the fastest rider" I'd be dead
  • 21 19
"I quit watching 5 minutes in..." guess you missed the part where they explained repeatedly that PBA isn't just for racers
  • 51 15
@mattddrchs: I may have BUT PBA was initially touted as a way to give up and coming racers a true shot at the EWS, not to be the next top influencer.

@Supergirl56: key word being "initially" there Smile

@mattddrchs: lmao i suppose you are right

I honestly stopped watching pretty early in the season this year too but went ahead and ranked contestants by followers on IG. No idea how the elims went after the second episode.

Ares & Elliot - 10K
Timmy - 8,182
Tarmo - 7,386
Eric - 6,155
Mia - 5,005
Britt - 2,695
Brody - 1,650
Amanda - 1,147

@bolosumo: so your saying I'll probably need to create an instagram account before I've got a shot? What about linkedin?
  • 9 2
You made the right decision. The show did NOT get better after the first 5 minutes.
  • 2 0
 @plyawn: What's linkedIn?
  • 3 1
This a tired idea. It’s for bikers

Seems like Orbea wanted to maintain sponsorship but didn't want anymore racers on their roster. So they called it the 'full package' rider, when what they really wanted was an Instagram/content influencer. However, if they said that from the jump, no one would have watched. So they went with 'complete package'.
  • 2 2
@mattddrchs: but 90% of the competitions were racing.... also Tarno is in Europe and would be harder to get content from him.
  • 33 1
that pba was more rigged than russian elections
  • 22 5
Wonder if he wanted this or if orbea is just putting him there to fill shit as a 'prize'. It was always billed as they would join the orbea Enduro team. But only Evan did....then they dumped flo on ebikes...now they put max on their TikTok team.

Where else can you put a guy who isn't actually that good at riding a bike?

I was stupid enough to try following him on Insta just to see if the hype was real. It wasn't! Average rider doing average things, boring.

What went down in PBA3 must be the biggest disaster in Pinkbike history, and Orbea will forever be tainted by their behaviour!
  • 20 3
@ponyboy24: what a crap thing to say. Great guy, talented rider… but please come out here from Boston and show us how it’s done!

@dingdong2: I didn't make any comment on what js like as a person, never met him, how would I know? Sure he is a great fella

I was just making reference to his riding talent, and the debacle in which PBA went down.
  • 5 2
@ponyboy24: Did you say Max is an average rider? How many average riders do you know that are hitting the Toonie drop, the Pemby lily slab, and flipping their trail bikes. I guess if the only caliber of rider you follow is Remy, Steve V, Yoann, etc, then sure... he's average...
  • 2 0
@ponyboy24: some people are just thinking that maybe when you come out here from Boston and see some of those features in person, you will not be considering them average.
  • 19 3
After destroying PB Academy, I don't really care what Orbea makes Max do to earn his prize. I'm not really interested in Orbea for bikes or bike related video content.

Syndicate, Mob, Collective, Tribe (RIP), now Commission? These collective nouns are becoming ridiculous!
  • 2 0
Make way for more of your favorites; acronyms!
  • 4 0
The thesaurus results are getting thin...
  • 2 0
Nothing wrong with a collective noun, but why pick one that sounds like a government body? Big Grin

As long as they vowels its fine by me.

 Nice reference.
  • 11 2
wow no spoilers in the title please
  • 4 0
Is it still a spoiler if nobody watched it? Hmmm...
  • 6 0
@ratedgg13: Is it still a spoiler when it was over 2 months ago?
  • 7 1
This Commission should spend some time reconsidering Orbea’s ridiculous price tags. $4400 for a Rallon FRAME ONLY? Gimme a break!

I would have liked PBA 3 way more if it was Cam and Christina hosting and they would have ran a slightly different format of competitions that were more in line with what they were actually looking for. How rad would it have been to see Max on the slope-style course that was in the background of most shots? Congrats to Max and I wish you the best of luck with your riding career.
  • 1 0
Well, he wouldnt be racing to show the capabilities of the bike because that was not where he excelled in PBA which has always been based on ability to race and represent the brand. That was the other guy who smoked him. Content.... Pilgs, Remy then maybe Berard and YB.

That was a horribly written press release. Really bad.
  • 3 0
The first two seasons were good. I stopped watching after the first episode of season three.

Huck yeah congrats Max! YEEWWW!!!! Big Grin \m/

Congrats Max! Great to see good people making moves!
  • 7 4
Max and Gully- what a great combo here in the North Van/Sea to Sky zone!
  • 5 1
 Who?
  • 3 0
Not gonna lie, I had forgotten who won the latest PBA.
  • 5 3
 Orbea is just lame, sorry
