Press Release: Peaty's Steel City DH

The best things come to those who wait, and we have been waiting for two years to commemorate ten years of Peaty’s Steel City Downhill. Race day is on Saturday 14th of May 2022 and we have big plans to celebrate.

First off, racers this one is for you. Race entries go live at 7pm on Wednesday 13th of April and can be found here steelcity22.eventbrite.co.uk. These things go fast, so to avoid disappointment make sure that you are logged in and ready to go at 7pm on the dot. We have categories from rippers through to grand vets for both lads and lasses, it’s an incredible race experience whether you’re a first-timer or seasoned pro.

This year local legends TADO have pulled out all the stops and come up with a t-shirt and hoodie design worthy of ten years. You can add one to your race entry or order them through [L=http://www.ridesheffield.org.uk/shop/]Ride Sheffield’s web shop[/L] to collect from our Merch Stands on the day. Pre-ordering will give you the widest range of sizes to choose from, tiny kids up to 3XL, on the day we will only have limited sizes available.

It takes a lot of love and support to put on this party in the woods. As ever, we are fortunate to have the support of Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust who allow us to run the race in Greno Woods. This race is a celebration of that partnership, with the first race coming about when the trust took ownership of the woods back in 2010. Help us to help them by becoming a member this year.

The race has always been run by a team of volunteers as a not-for-profit event to raise money to build and maintain mountain bike trails in the woods and around Sheffield. We’re here to raise as much money as we can by putting on the best event we can. This year is big in lots of ways, with one of the biggest changes being Peaty's Products stepping up as title sponsors and with a name like that it was a natural choice.

We have the reputation as the ‘biggest little race” for good reason. Part of that is down to the party atmosphere in the finish bowl thanks to the amazing crowd that we get along to the race every year, not to mention great local street food, coffee, and beer, as well as stands from leading brands and local shops. But it’s also down to the racer experience too. From the goodie bag at sign-on, through to the amazing prizes for those lucky few who make it onto the podium. We are really lucky to have category sponsors from Renthal, Viris, Broken riders, Cotic, G form, Fox Clothing, Expert Bike Repair, Tony Butterworths, Leighton Vans, The Bikes College, Burgtec, Trek Sheffield and 60 Sticks. Capped off with a unique medal from TADO, who have been making us beautiful medals and t-shirts for most of the years the race has been running.

Harrison Clarke reminding us what it s all about.

Lastly, the kind folk at Santa Cruz UK have donated us a brand new Large Nomad Frame in Green to sell off. So keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks to find out how you could grab yourself a new frame and contribute to our money-raising efforts.

We can’t wait to welcome back racing into Greno Woods and we can’t wait to see you there.
