Photo Epic: Day 1 - EWS Petzen-Jamnica 2018

by Matthew DeLorme

Tight racing after day one here in Petzen-Jamnica. Many at the top found the fresh cut sections of trail entirely different than they left them after day one. It's what happens when a few hundred riders go down a fresh track, support disappears and things get blown out. By the time you get your crack at it, it's nothing like how you remember it. There were crashes. There was tight racing. Day one in Petzen-Jamnica was long and brutal. Fifty kilometers of riding done. A tight battle between Sam Hill and Martin Maes. Sam Hill would come out on top at days end. Cecile Ravanel took the day for the women, with Isabeau Courdurier in second and Melanie Pugin close behind in third.

Finally a day nothing but sunshine at round 4 of the Enduro World Series.

I felt like double tapping on so many of those and then I forgot this wasn't instagram. Great coverage.

Amazing how well the photographers can capture the brutality of the day. As always I want to blow up every picture and mount it in my garage.

Beginning to look a bit like a Nascar vehicle out there.

@BaeckerX1: who ever down voted this guy needs to go look up sarcasm in the dictionary.
  • + 6
Yeah, CR would do themselves a lot of favors if they come up with a much better looking kit for Sam and the other guys. So damn shouty it's derikulous. And Sam is such a quiet lad. Ah, irony.

Wow these photos! This has got to be the prettiest EWS round ever. The forests look like something out of Grim's fairy tales. Hansel and Gretel. Massive Kudos to the riders, trial builders, race organizers and photographers who bring it to us. Thank you!

They look like home... ah, the PNW. Big Grin

Can't wait for that Martin Maes bike check. It looks like his Sanction is production ready.
  • + 1
Yeah... and he is on fire with it... I talked with him last year at the megavalanche... he is actually running 180mm rotors... was surprised... but he never cooks them as far as I heard...
  • + 5
 Are nukeproof megas good?
  • + 4
They always ridden good and been good bang-for-buck no nonsens bikes. Most owners I met are really happy with them.
  • + 2
love mine, definitely better going down the hills but manage the ups too!
  • + 2
I own one. It is good. I use it on steep, rocky terrain, like Malino Brdo bike park, together with flow lines in Kalnica. I have chosen it because of the price/quality ratio and good warranty reputation. Just replace the stock grips, they suck.

Why isn't Eddie Masters on a full factory team?

The guy actually has a personality unlike most racing drones and he's fast as f*ck.
  • + 20
He's riding for Pivot factory racing team. Sounds pretty factory to me
  • - 2
@chri92: What support do they get? I think it's pretty minimal.
  • + 3
@jclnv: They are getting bikes, spare parts, probably all their expenses covered, and a mechaninc. It really does cost a fortune to run a pro team, pivot is not that big of a brand, without any money coming from outside the bike industry it's almost impossible to give them more support.
  • + 5
He rides for Pivot Factory racing in the DH series but if you look at the EWS leaderboard he’s just listed as an NZ rider. I suspect apart from the bike he is getting limited support in the Enduro Series but is clearly taking a liking to it!!
  • + 4
@Prh: I suspect this is because Pivot isn’t EMBA registered team
  • + 2
@chri92: still a big enough brand he bought a home with his signing bonus
  • + 4
all these photos of Katy but non of Casey Brown who's currently 4th? booo
