Photo Epic: Green Means Go - Nove Mesto World Cup XC 2020 Round 2

A hectic week of racing in Nove Mesto was rounded off in fine fashion today. After a grey and rainy start to the the day, the sun finally made an appearance and began to dry out the track as the elite women kicked off the action. Pauline Ferrand Prevot added another World Cup win to her tally in rather dominant fashion coming across the line over 20 seconds up on Anne Terpstra. They were in a class of their own with Friday's winner Loana Lecomte rounding off a great week with 3rd, albeit a minute and 10 seconds back on the winner. Rebecca McConnell slotted into 4th with Laura Stigger closing off the podium in 5th.

The men's race was a much tighter affair with the top 7 finishing within 4 seconds in a thrilling sprint to the line which ultimately saw the Brazilian Henrique Avancini take his first XCO World Cup win. Milan Vader and Nino Schurter ran him closest on the charge to the line but he held strong. Victor Koretzky and Alan Hatherly rounded off the podium.

The U23 races took place yesterday with Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado and Thomas Pidcock taking home the top honours by big margins. With less than a week until World Champs, will we see those that performed well in Nove Mesto continue their strong form or will someone who's had a slightly quieter week fancy their chances with some fresher legs? Next stop Leogang.

One of the best last laps that I can remember. Avancini was great, and that overtake taking a different line was so cool. Can't wait to see Nino vs Avancini at the World Champs.

Can we have a Photo Epic dedicated to Anton Coopers haircut? Thanks

Stoked for Avancini to finally get his win! Curious about his rainbow bands though? He was marathon world champ but not XC. How/why is he allowed to have the bands on that kit then? At least with road you don't have the stripes on a road race day if you are a former TT world champ for example.

I believe you can always wear the rainbow stripes on your sleeves even when you're racing a different discipline. A friend of mine is a former CX masters world champion and runs the rainbow stripes on some of his jersey sleeves and he only races mtb now.

@scotthanson: no, that's definitely not officially allowed. Same reason mathieu van der poel or wout can meet don't/can't run CX stripes on their road kit or mtb kit. Smaller races they prob don't care but I was surprised to see it at a world cup since I figured those rules applied with mtb disciplines as they do with road.

Love this feature, thanks. Great racing all week. Looking forwards to world champs. Maybe some more XC bike checks too?

Pauline FERRAND-PREVOT. Look at her Instagram, her Strava, Canyon's team roster, Red Bull coverage, prior Olympic coverage, etc etc. There is a hyphen there.

It's not just this article; Pinkbike really needs to hire someone who can proofread.

Are the U23 riders on the podiums wearing some kind of hosiery? Is that an XC thing, like lighter than full length tights?
