Finals Photo Epic: Rise of the Phoenix - Hardline 2019

by Tristan Tinn

Today brought the sixth battle deep in Dinas Mawddwy, North Wales. A course designed to test the best athletes in the world has done just that. With just 14 riders remaining following qualifying, who would race to survive and who would race to thrive? With yesterday's weather on the up, today's weather brought us firmly back down - building winds, poor visibility, and slick slop all turning up the difficulty a notch. The riders had time for just two practice runs this morning to acclimatise to the new conditions before tackling the most punishing downhill track in the world.

Tristan Tinn's photo of Matt Walker on that drop shows just how gnarly the "smaller" stuff is. That thing doesn't look too bad on the live feed, but it's massive.

You know stuff is big when it looks big in the pics or videos. Definitely need to get up there to watch next year, just to get a real sense of the outrageous skills and stones needed to hit a track like that.

Huge kudos to Kaos, crashed, back flipped the big step up and then flipped the hip into the trees too. Complete and utter nutter :-)

That shot of kaos...no wonder he blew both pedals. The kid is a hoss. Bummed for him and the Ginja Ninja!

Best race of the year. Kaos flipping the hip was the most insane move.

pargolf8 if you only you got the point that better it looks, the more people that do not ride or follow the sport would watch, and the more that watch, the more the riders would get better deals, money and more recognition. But hey 'its free' so lets just keep us small number of people happy instead of trying to make these amazing athletes more recognized as the great sports stars they are.
