Photo Recap: 2014 OverMountain Enduro at Highland Mountain

Aug 26, 2014
by Highland Mountain Bike Park
The 2014 OverMountain Enduro saw nearly 200 racers descend upon Highland Mountain Bike Park's fresh cut race tracks and bikepark trails. Sunny skies, stoked riders, and big prizes on the line set the stage for an awesome day of racing. The first stop on the Triple Crown Eastern Enduro Series was a rider favorite, boasting a course many called challenging and humbling, but most of all fun. Post-race riders relaxed with free beverages in the Giant beer garden, the perfect venue to share their stories of battle from the day! When it was all said and done, MTB hall of famer Marla Streb took the Pro Women's win, and Seamus Powell rode to the top step for the Pro Men. The Highland crew and Triple Crown Enduro Series send a huge thank you to Giant Bicycles, Louis Garneau, Liv, G-Form, Thule, Kingdom Trails and the Village Sport Shop for making this event possible. See you next year racers!

I mean i get your point.. I guess when I see a description of a race in a series and it says racers should expect to have to climb 10-20% of the overall drop in a stages vertical and its literally under 5% on every stage and some stages could be said that it was almost 0 I dont know if its really my think. Multistage DH race with trail bikes more like it?

cool to see a drop in an enduro race, highland rules!

glad I sent it without looking at the size, might have backed out!

I've looked at that drop many times and didn't hit it till this race.. pretty smooth really.

First time I hit that trail blind on a rental 7" bike and thought with the wooden take off it was a roll down....ended up bender hacking it to make it to the tranny....didn't make that mistake again and carried speed after that. Did they race all of threshold as a race stage?

The stage was ODB to Threshold
  • 1 0
That would be a badass stage but that sucks they cut the upper part of threshold out that's the best part of the trail. The next 2 times I had gone up there I was riding that trail on my intense 6.6. But odb is still a fun trail!

is it me or does aaron chase look like jesse pinkman from breaking bad?!?

I thought that when the first season of BB came out!

Did Paul or Ryan take more photos? Will they be putting them up for sale?

Stage one and two had lots of pedaling in them, stage three and four were just so much fun to ride. Over all I thought the course this year was amazing. Nicely done Highland!

What trails did the course comprise of? I see threshold but was that the only gnarly trail?
  • 2 1
Looked sick! way to kelly rippa Trav! fackin killed it.

Neg rep me all you want but I thought the race track this year was more of just straight up DH runs and liked last year's track a lot better. It was a downhillers course for sure.. If that's the future of Enduro I don't know if I'll continue racing...

â€¦but, that's what Enduro is supposed to be! www.pinkbike.com/news/opinion-dear-america-2014.html

I get your point.. but when a race description of a race in the series says 10-20% climbing of a segments total vertical should be expected in a stage and this race probably had less than 5% on most and some had probably 0.. I just don't know if it's my thing. Could just call it a multistage DH race on trailbikes?

manchvegas- enduro racing is literally supposed to be DH runs but climbing to get to the top of each stage... it should be gnarly and I applaud Highlands for running it right. It's not their fault you had the wrong perception of what enduro should be. Wink

I get it.. if that's the case then I don't think it's the racing format I'm looking for. If you had ridden the course last year you would know it was totally different. Average course time this year was 17min. last year it was close to 25. You had to be in a lot better pedal shape last year with the same amount of vert but some of the stages were twice as long. Some of the specials last year were over 11-12 min for pro times.. this year the longest one was 3-4 min's for the pros. Sorry, neg rep me all you want as an amateur that's never raced DH, last years course was way better

I also signed up with a course similar to last year's in mind. Don't get me wrong, I thought the course was wicked fun this year! I love the gnarly-gnar. But on a course like that people like manchvegas and myself just can't compete with those who have downhill racing backgrounds(especially when there's virtually no time limit on getting to the top of the next stage.

And Scott, nobody is right or wrong here about what enduro is supposed to be, but I'll excuse the passive-aggressiveness since we did hijack your comment to make this thread Wink
