We are excited to announce that Pinkbike Academy is now available on Amazon Prime TV!

All 10 episodes are now live on the streaming service, so grab some popcorn and binge away. This is the third Pinkbike Originals show to make it onto Amazon Prime TV, after The Privateer - Season 2 and Full Enduro were added in April.

Pinkbike Academy is a mountain bike reality TV show that puts 10 aspiring professional riders through a series of competitions and elimination challenges to see if they have what it takes to make it at the top. The Pinkbike Academy champion will take home $25,000 cash and a 1-year professional contract with Orbea Bikes. The five female and five male contestants range in age from 20 to 34 and come from various cycling backgrounds, each bringing unique personalities and skills to the table.

Filming for the first season took place at the Official Location Partner of Pinkbike Academy: Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna, British Columbia. Pinkbike Academy is supported by Fox Racing, Fox Head, Shimano, Orbea, GoPro, Garmin, Feedback Sports, Maxxis, PRO, Big White, Stans No Tubes, Trailforks and Ride Concepts.

Sweet, one more way not to watch.

Haha. Is it that bad? I haven’t followed the series.

@extratalldirtrider: the series did for Pinkbike what the video game adaptation of E.T. The extraterrestrial did for Atari

 @extratalldirtrider: Personally enjoyed it.

@usedbikestuff: what a bizarre analogy that was..

@extratalldirtrider: Haven't watch a single solitary second, so I have no idea. But have zero plans to find out.

@coop08: “See it’s funny, but it also makes you think” (one obscure reference to another)

@extratalldirtrider: If you go in realizing this is in fact reality TV, not an EWS broadcast or a tightly edited shredit, it's pretty enjoyable. You could tell they were figuring it out in the first few episodes, but the end it was actually quite good and compelling (internet) TV.

@usedbikestuff: it's not obscure if your old enough.

@makripper: Sargent Bilko and Atari are both pretty obscure.

@usedbikestuff: There's a netflix doc about gaming and they do a hilarious interview with the designer of ET for Atari. Funny and interesting.

@extratalldirtrider: It's not very good, but I still watched the whole thing over breakfast on Thursdays. It was easy to get up and tend to my coffee while the episode played in the background.

all the haters are probably golfers.

@coop08: It's a great myth apparently. But it seems E.T. was the scapegoat for a console that Atari refused to update ending it as a POS compared to new-tech. The takeaway is nobody plays an Atari anymore, but @usedbikestuff still made it in here to comment on the PBA series (which was entertaining).....so I guess he's not jumping the PB ship just yet. Wink

@usedbikestuff: atari was bad ass and everyone wanted one back in the day. Not even close to obscure.

@usedbikestuff: okay but you lost me on this one.

I actually enjoyed it, the only problem Pinkbike put themselves into is the Male and Female together, there is no room for racing, since it would be unfair for some of the chicks. They need to sort it out or put racing double eliminations, one male and one female.

@makripper: my first real mountain bike had cantilevers brakes and thumb shifter...
I got it.

@ReformedRoadie: that doesn't mean much. They were popular until the late 90's

@makripper: does 6 speed cassette and biopace triple do it for you?

@ReformedRoadie: woah the fancy high tech stuff haha

dun, dun, TIME TICKIN' TIME TICKIN', dun dun dun. I cringe and totally enjoy watching with the wife and son. Well done.

Next season thoughts:

- send them on all types of rides (XC, enduro, DH)
- send them overnighting and bikepacking in pairs
- Quick challenge: watch Friday Fails, pause before the actual fail and have them choose OTB/case/washout with a bonus for calling broken bike
- Atherton foxhunt type race with a pro
- let all the dropped riders vote for the winner
- Send everyone on a few regular trail rides so we can see who is fun to ride with

Replace xc with dirt jumpers. It’s supposed to be fun to watch remember

I did enjoy this series and I figured most of the things I didn't quite like about it probably had to do with filming during the pandemic. It would be cool if it as spread out longer with a race at the end of every week and more comparison challenges that feature pro riders.

Did Bezos buy you dinner before taking you to bed, or did he just tell you "this is happening"

I liked the idea. Obviously the limitations from COVID had a drastic impact on the show. Hardly any non Canadian athletes. They had to film in a small bubble, and you know they could have done so much more with more time and a larger crew. I think it was pretty cool that they didn’t just skip the show with all of that other stuff going on.

Absolute props to PB for trying to innovate and diversify its content. However, I found it all to be just far too cringeworthy.
  • 2 0
They need to in corporate more racing with challenges. No one cares about people who can’t actually ride better then the better than average rider. That’s the facts don’t care how well you can edit video content.
  • 7 2
 Yawn.
  • 7 2
 Double yawn

 Congrats!

As much as I appreciate the free content from PB, I lost interest around the 3rd episode. Pretty boring and drawn out, mountain biking isn't a reality TV show, please don't make this into snowboarding.
