Everyone looks forward to Christmas time, regardless of your religious beliefs. Everybody has a hard time sleeping, wakes up with cold feet, stays up late, and wakes up early. Christmas time is a time of year that everyone is happy with. Excessive breaks from work make it an exciting holiday with lots of time to visit with the girlfriend, wife, kids, chairlift, whatever you may need to spend time with.
Another evening we all look forward to is your Christmas Party with co-workers. You have yelled, argued, fought, swore, screamed, and praised your co-workers all year, and now is a chance to enjoy a night out with them, where no work will be talked about. The work Christmas Party is an awesome event to end the season on, so here's a small write up on what we did this year. Our Christmas party started in Chilliwack, where the Pinkbike headquarters resides. The plan was for Radek, Karl, Tyler, Mike, Jordan, Ambrose, Sabrina, Larisa, and Kristi to all burn out to Richmond and take part in some aggressive indoor Go Kart racing. We hit the road out of the 'Wack at 6:30 for our destination - Richmond TBC Indoor Kart Racing. Everyone was pumped when we arrived and saw the track in person.
Pumped Up
Sabrina was the most pumped
Consisting of about 10 high speed corners, and using high quality Italian Racing Karts, we were ready to tear it up. A few of us (the guys) brought our own helmet setups, but for the people that didn't have that option (the ladies), Richmond TBC Indoor Kart Racing rents out helmets for 2$ a session, a pretty solid deal.
After a momentary safety briefing provided by an informative video on what to do if you crash (or are too slow), we were ready to race. The track appeared to be built inside an old gym. A massive, cold, metal structure building housed these Racing Karts, capable of reaching 70 km/h. When we signed our waivers, we were assigned a racing number. These racing numbers corresponded with our carts and would be used to track our finishing times, which were all captured by THC's high tech timing system. We felt the Freelap system would have worked in the identical way. At the end of the 2 races (about 8 minutes per race and 31$ for both races) we were given our timing pages. Here's some stats on how we did:
Fastest Lap: Radek - 33.758 sec Second - Jordan - 33.840 sec Third - Karl - 33.932 sec Fourth - Mike - 34.198 sec Fifth - Sabrina - 34.336 sec Sixth - Tyler - 35.058 sec Seventh - Kristi - 35.577 sec Eigth - Larisa - 40.446 sec
Split Time (time difference from 1st to 8th) - 6.688 sec
After the TBC Indoor Kart Racing we went to the Cactus Club in Coquitlam to get a bite to eat. We were all super pumped on how the karts went. We had no clue going into it that they would be fully capable of spinning out, drifting, passing, drafting, everything cool race car drivers do, these karts were capable of. It was wicked fun!
At the Cactus Club we indulged in a plethora of appetizers. Everything from Mini Burgers, to Chili Chicken, even Yam Fries were enjoyed, and at the end of it all, we left the Cactus Club just 30 minutes shy of midnight, with happy stomachs, and a fulfilled feeling after racing.
I would like to take a second to wish all of Pinkbike.com viewers a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. We would not be able to do what we do without your attention, and dedication to the site, so over the holiday season enjoy some festive cheer for us. We will do the same for all of you guys and gals! But remember, don't ride or drive if you've been drinking during the holidays or any time of the year - be safe! Operation Red Nose is a life saver, and it should be used to its fullest.
Best of luck to everyone in the 2009 riding season!
its the thought that counts guys. we all want lots of awesome stuff for Christmas, but sometimes that doesn't happen. Just be glad that you got to spend time with your family and that you have what you have.
