This idea came to me a couple days ago and I've been feeling pretty confident I had a hit on my hands. They were a lot of fun to draw and I laughed a lot while working on them. Now that I'm about to press the button to post this comic I'm having second thoughts. Spoofing trading cards from 1985 might not exactly be the kind of timely content Pinkbike readers have come to expect!
Well, I guess, mostly for my entertainment, enjoy today's comic...
Now, regarding this Pole swingarm, it's my observation that everyone needs to stop calling it "huck to flat TEST". The huck to flat is not part of the actual field test, it's just a juicy slow-mo video of the frame/fork articulation that the pb testers started adding to the field tests and people loved. If it was ever expected to be a frame stress test, I'm sure pb would be publishing data for the drop height, rider weight, number of drop cycles, etc. and manufacturers would be boasting or hiding their outcomes accordingly. It's not like that. A huck to flat should easily be in the wheelhouse of ANY name-brand mountain bike made today.
Summary: It's not a "huck to flat TEST" that broke the Pole. It's not a stress TEST. It was just a simple huck to flat for a useful video scene before or after the actual field test.
I've seen this referenced multiple times in different articles comments. How did people find out about it? This seems like something that's usually not mentioned publicly. But other than that, I totally agree. The "test" is in no way scientific, nor does pb try to make it out as such. People are putting way too much energy in saying that it is.
@wildedge586: The "huck to flat" is not a test: it's video eye candy. They're not reporting results from it. If you even watch any of the field test videos, you'll see that they don't even mention the huck to flat while it's being shown. It might as well be a glorified unboxing scene. The field TEST is the actual riding and analysis of those rides on familiar trails. Again, not the "huck to flat" scene. I hope pb makes this really clear when they review the Pole and show how it shit the bed getting out of the truck.
While not entirely quantitative, it was still a repeated and measured event (video). I guess you could complain that the load isn't exactly the same in each case, but still probably +/- 10% as long as it's the same rider...
Nice. According to my mother, Garbage Pail Kids are what corrupted me as a youth. According to my wife, mountain bikes are what currently turn my mind to mush.
Either way, both are way cooler than my kid's Pokemon.
bike-components.de (a german bike online retailer) literally has their own Top Trumps like card set with what I believe are their employees bikes. Just gotta make clear what's "better" beforehand, or else just wait for the arguments.
Oh, I get it,” Steve ENDO“. Groan. Why not ”Phil McKraken” Or “Hugh Jazz” . I had a vice principal in grade school who was named Jack Imhoff... that would be a funny drawing... if someone else drew it.
Hey Taj, do Pinkbikers even know about your history? Please post some pics/videos of yourself riding 15-20 years ago so you get some credibility back. I was way into 20" stuff back then and know how good of a rider you are. It hurts me not to see you getting the respect that you deserve. For those of you who don't know about Taj, please go put his name into the google.
Still have about 100 or so of original Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. Pinkbike should put these to print and sell them with some cheap chewing gum. Just like the original was back in the day...
This would be a sick idea to have some collectable "Pinkbike trading cards" that, while riding one can trade cards with fellow mountain bike enthusiasts they meet!
PB Viewer's are waking up wondering "what's going to be posted on PB today..??" hmmm maybe a cool new bike story,or perhaps a cool new suspension bit that will give me extra squishy dreams?? Ohhh... Here we are!! 1 new post of "PB Viewer's Mockery"!!? Right On! Well.. We shall wait yet still.. but for another day

What do you call this procedure then that they are subjecting all participating bikes to?
It's still a test, only a qualitative one not a quantitative test.
Summary : if it looks like a test, rides like a test and breaks stuff like a test then it's probably a test

"Pole swingarm didn't hang itself"

"Travel - 180mm"
"150mm"
"Hah, i win"
"No you don't"
"Dude, 180mm is higher than 150mm"
"Yeah but 150mm is better..."
Just wait until you try and play wheel size...
@CommentinCarl, does you super model wife enjoy the extra digits?
